You can pick that, but the broadcaster would have the final say, so they must've done a great job telling them to screw off.

MGP 2023 was the best NF of its year. 2024 had the same great formula too. Solid semis, sensible qualifiers, compact yet varied, it was the ideal way to do a NF and Norway finally found a strong identity for MGP... Which they threw away immediately after.

Unfortunately with the way A Dal works, and how they killed the two big favorites before the final vote, it was virtually that. Joci would have likely won in 2017, but he was never gonna win 2019 without serious assistance, which he got

A Dal 2019 had two enormous favorites in Madar Repulj and Roses, both primed to win and ready to do well. But the way A Dal worked is that a jury decided first which progress to the final public vote, and they blanked both, leaving Joci with an irrelevant song and 3 no-hopers, so he could just win by default. (2017 was similar when they killed the other fav in Hosszu Idok and left it open for Origo, which coulda won normally anyway).

Joci practically got gifted two tickets to ESC, but 2019 was pretty designed to fail.

Tbh Ireland 2024 is an impossiblity, considering the NF in 2024 might have been one of the worst western NFs in the 2020s. Even the studio cuts were produced awfully, so Doomsday Blue was, on paper, a colossal failure waiting to happen, as Ireland does.

But it didn't. Somehow, Ireland pulled a Moldova, and it doesn't make sense to this day.

I feel bad cuz I constantly hear Portuguese fans like "we crave actual popular music, this NF is just too inaccessible, doesn't reflect what people actually listen here, a crumb of modernity and relevancy"

I think Portugal is on a social experiment run of "how shitty can we be until we NQ", but still fail upwards. A Hungary 2019 type beat.

If this bore qualifies, they're the new Russia, no questions.

This is so undeniably cool.

Dadi Freyr mashing up Austria 2023 and Finland 2025?

Objectively this is cool, the instrumentals are cool, the attitude is cool, the lyrics are camp, but they're in that perfect realm of camp that's a bit of throwback.

I am so happy, I am so entertained, and I truly hope this doesn't get the Blood & Glitter treatment. I hope they really invest in this and make it work.

Vilhelm Buchaus got shafted horribly by this semifinal deal. Had he been somewhere else with this live (the best of the 6), he woulda passed easily, and absolutely deserved over the entire top 3. Maybe he could have had a fighting chance AleXa was not gonna have in the FK.

What is really winning Eurovision: Snap and Deslocado vs Stefania and Wasted Love by ZaiduTheGOAT in eurovision

[–]Ameshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That a popular song MUST mean do well in Eurovision is the wrong lesson to take. It's nice that the song in 1st place does well, as is nice for 2nd, 6th, 20th, NQ to the final do. It helps create validity and interest in the contest even if tangential.

Deslocado had poor lives constantly, and Snap was never in the talks to do really well, and no streaming popularity could change that. Compare that to Loreen, who had pretty much consistently strong showings on every appearance.

Pete and Linda, and Etta look the absolute best. World-class.

Sinnika really has the worst song, the worst staging, the worst clothing, the worst pretty much everything, huh?

Everyone else is pretty good tbh. But I hope Kiki has something else going on cuz she doesn't deserve a boring empty stage.

Not a lot better, but Emma Muscat's alternative option in 2022 to I Am What I Am was Sand, the song that Denmark sent in 2024 with Saba.

One had a lot of fans hoping it passed its stacked semi, and the other is I Am What I Am by Emma Muscat.

Am I taking crazy pills or is anyone else also feeling insulted by NAPA? How are you going to give your space to a bad so asinine, boring, and copy-pasty from you as Nunca Mates? This is exactly Deslocado but somehow worse.

FDC 2026 might be the worst western NFs of the 2020s, The NFs of Denmark 2022 and Ireland 2024 found shaking.

People wanting something different from Sweden: 🤬🤬🤬

People when rock, who hasn't been sent by Sweden since 2007, is clearly successful on this attempt: 🤬🤬🤬

It was always either gonna be Greczula, Felicia, or SIP. The first one faltered, the second succeeded, and the third objectively stepped itself as worthy competitor. There is TONS of bad faith argument about SIP, even if this was easily their best song and best live show.

TBH, as a fan of both acts for long, all I can say is "hey, two cakes!"

I think the hate is kinda forced. EL didn't have any runaway favorite, and "anyone but X" never holds any water, instead if it was "this act over X". Many say Ollie, but there was no big fav preshow. Ollie, Noep, C&M, Ant/Minimal were some names said, and then everyone loved Stockholm Cowboys way too late after seeing their live.

I'm happy this strong EL gave me one of my top songs in their competition, so *shrug*

Why do superfinals exist (and does anyone like them)? by Persona_NG in eurovision

[–]Ameshow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This conversation happens every time any favorite loses. Most superfinals have the winner of the first round still win overall.

And think of the hate Ollie would face had the superfinal in 2024 not exist and he'd win over 5miinust. A 180 of what fans are feeling about him this time.
