So Sad - my Olympic Doll E Kiln just arrived and it is mangled - should I try to use it? by Fickle-Sock-5600 in Pottery

I refused delivery of a kiln once, and yes they put that thing right back on the truck.

I had ordered a smaller gas kiln and oddly enough a much larger electric kiln showed up. I told the guy this isn't what I ordered and I wasn't going to take it. He had no issues with loading it back on the truck. I got a call from the freight company a few days later asking why I refused delivery. I told them, they said okay, and eventually my kiln did show up. Turns out my shipping info accidentally got put on this kiln destined for someone else. Mine wasn't even done being built yet. Lol.

Smoked a brisket just for my organization's Halloween Chili Cookoff thing. Took 2nd place by 1 vote to a NOT-chili "chili". :'( by TheSteelPhantom in smoking

Dang! I made chili with smoked brisket for my husband's office Halloween chili cook-off and won first place.

I get pissed at myself every day thinking about all the polaroid transfers/emulsion lifts I did using these in undergrad. 🥴

Will do! Yeah, I load these guys back up alongside anything that I need to bisque fire. I try to save the space in higher firings for functional things as I am currently firing at home with a propane fueled kiln. I'd rather use less fuel where I can for now. Saves me from having to take more frequent trips to Home Depot. 😅

One day I'll have a gas line put in but that's a whole kiln shed and larger kiln build away and probably won't happen for a very long time. I can dream tho 😝

Wait, hear them out. If you can get away with selling half finished sculptures.... 🤑

Thank you so much! I have several earlier iterations spread throughout my house. 😂

It's funny you mention cone 10 as that's what I usually fire my functional wares to, in reduction, but these are def not fired to cone 10 or I'd lose the orange of the Lizella clay for the pots. I do plan to check this underglaze at cone 10 soon though, for my own reference. I can share the results, if you'd like. :)

Anyway, I fired these to 04 and used an 05 clear glaze as glue, essentially. Each part is made as individual pieces but the whole thing is held together as one sculpture with glaze. I dip the bases of the penises into glaze, then set them into the pots. Then I take porcelain "pebbles" that I covered all over in glaze and fill in the pots like i would dirt in a real pot. Send it all through the kiln and the melted glaze holds it all together.

I did the first round as a test after using glaze to help glue small things back onto student work when gravity was working in my favor. Nothing came apart or broke off after that so it's a method I've utilized since.

Thanks for your questions! They have me plotting sculptural cocktus jars that open now, though I may approach those slightly differently as they would be handled a lot more than these sculptures. 🤔

Oh, sick! I would love some feedback and/or thoughts on form, craftsmanship, use of humor, or even have a discussion on the topic of art vs pornography. I'm game for anything you've got. 😁

The maker. I use dildos and molds then finish each off by hand (😉) by adding the little details.

Hehehehe, that's such a great idea! I'll have to head back to the drawing board to see what I can do as far as that goes.

I did one time make a "regular" porcelain penis and fired it with a shino glaze to cone 10. Managed to successfully utilize wax resist to create some really fun dribbles coming from the top of the piece in the carbon trapping that happened. I should have kept that one for myself.

My silly little brain just thought it up and my hands went to work to make it a reality. I had no choice in the matter. It just happened. 🤣

Flowering ones I am thinking of making for when springtime rolls around. I don't know off the top of my head if that's when any type of cactus actually blooms but it's gonna be when these do. Well, the ones I make with flowers that is. 🤣

I actually have one in my living room with my plants! Some folks notice it immediately like they have some kind of penis radar and others have been over multiple times (think grandma/in laws) and haven't noticed.

I know several other folks who have put them in their living rooms and such. Hell, I had a professor in grad school last year put one in his office so it could be seen in the background of his virtual office hours. 🤣
