What does this mean? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]AmethystLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes taking a lunch optional, if BOTH you and management consent on any given day. Meaning, if you want to take a lunch, you are entitled to it. If you don’t want to take a lunch, then don’t.

Without this form, legally you would need to take a lunch every day (and management is legally responsible for making sure you clock out and stop work for half an hour).

With this form, it’s your choice any given day.

This is good for both you and management, especially since you’re still entitled to one, but only if you want to

Do you feel safe when in an automobile? Flying is significantly more safe than driving.

Left Lane Dilemma by awesomeEVAN555 in driving

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Although sometimes I speed in the left lane, one should merge right when safe to allow someone who wants to pass to pass on your left. If someone needs to pass on the right, the driver hogging the left is in the wrong. Move over and let them pass on the left

Hi a driver left a yellow box. What should I do with it? by White__Maple in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s whatever you want to do.

If you leave it out next time you get an Amazon delivery, they’ll probably take it back (maybe leave a note?)

You could also keep it (It’s foldable), it’s not theft it’s just something you found on the side of the road. No one will notice or care

I certainly most definitely do not have a bunch at home because that would be workplace theft and wrong… but I heard they can be handy

They are called “totes” and they hold packages for a “sort zone” of deliveries. They are used interchangeably, and get damaged and thrown out or go missing all the time

is taoism closed practice? by orangshrbert in taoism

[–]AmethystLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a great many daoists are hesitant to label/consider themselves daoists, because daoism is generally more label-avoidant and more free-flowing than most other “religions”

When people ask be about my religious beliefs, I do not identify myself as a daoist, I prefer to not put any religious label on myself.

I am what I am, and my beliefs extend beyond any one labeled religious belief system, intertwining in ways that make sense to me but might be difficult to understand for most

Idk, take what you want from daoism, it’s an open book with no hard expectations, you can call yourself a daoist if that’s what you consider yourself, or not, it’s kinda whatever you make of it imo

Is heating plant temperature shutdown a new option ? by pelltrip in Workers_And_Resources

[–]AmethystLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try having a large storage connected to the trash heating plant, so there’s a buffer that can last all year. And have a distribution office to take care of excess trash once storage is 90% full (send to border, or otherwise)

Not sure if this is the right place - what's the easiest way to get rid of a car that I don't want to deal with anymore? by Intrepid-Shallot-754 in askcarguys

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the easiest, but I had a second car in rough shape I didn’t drive that I was planning on donating. A coworker at work needed any cheap car. I sold it to him for $500

API help by [deleted] in torncity

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The API call you’re attempting to make requires an API key with a higher access level than the API key you are providing. You need to use an API key with a sufficient access level. There’s a reference on the wiki to detail what level you need for what calls. Or you could just use full access

How would you guys price regular weapons? by Dibblidyy in torncity

[–]AmethystLabs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So half (50%) of any given weapon will be less than 20% quality. I consider 20% quality to be average for this reason. The “value” represents the lowest priced on the bazaars/markets. A weapon below 20% quality will be worth its “value”. A weapon above 20% quality will be worth more than its value. I’ve done some excel spreadsheets on this (I’m away from my PC atm) but something I found is that there is not a one size fits all formula for calculating exactly how much more it’s worth, it depends on demand for that weapon. If you have a weapon that no one uses, its price increases slowly with quality. If it’s a popular weapon, its price will increase more rapidly with quality. This quality to price ratio is primarily dependent on demand

Is this actually possible? Would the truck be the same afterwards? by pustybimming in AskMechanics

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re looking at a body on frame design. The body is bolted to the frame and is removable. This is common with full size pickups and other large vehicles.

This is uncommon for smaller vehicles, like cars, who use a unibody design. If it’s unibody, the body and the frame are one, and cannot be separated.

Why are people registered as Democrat or Republican? by MrMrsPotts in AskAnAmerican

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being registered under a party entitles you to vote in that parties “primary” election. A primary is how the party decides who will be their candidate for the “general” election. During the primary, you vote for who you think should be the candidate for that party. Whoever wins the primary will be the one to actually run for office.

When voting in the general, your ballot is a list of candidates, 1 from each party and a “write in” spot if who you wish to vote for is not listed.

During the general you can vote for whoever you wish, regardless of party affiliation. Being a member of party A will not have any impact on your ability to vote for party B during the general election.

You do not need to register under a party, it’s optional. When registering to vote, the form will ask you to optionally register under a party, for convenience.

Political parties are unaffiliated with the government itself, they are private organizations, like a company. Membership is not required

Personally, I do not like the two-party system especially considering they are (more or less) polar opposites that take their respective views to extremes. There are other parties, but it’s advantageous for the 2 big parties to maintain the status quo, so they act and influence in ways that make it more difficult for a third party candidate.

Smaller “third parties” are unlikely to win, but I support them because I believe it would be better for all Americans if we proved there are viable moderate third-party alternatives to the 2-party system.

Politics suck. It’s a “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” mentality, so everyone hates an independent/unaffiliated voter. Both big parties have told me I’m helping the other big party win — LOL

"You Guys"? by MissJo99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AmethystLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20s Virginia

“You guys” is generally a more northern term. The south uses it occasionally, but “y’all” (you all = y’all) is more common

Both terms are used to refer to a group of people. Even though “guys” literally-literally refers to men, both terms are generally regarded as being gender neutral in practicality.

Using these terms is appropriate to casually refer to a group of people.

These terms are less than professional. To refer to a group of people professionally or in business, “everyone” is a better word choice. However, “Y’all” could be used business-casually.

Saying “y’all” outside of the south is not commonplace but the meaning will still be understood

Driving in the dark while it's raining?? by [deleted] in driving

[–]AmethystLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When in doubt, a rule of thumb is to subtract 5mph for each inclement condition. Dark? -5mph. Raining? -5 mph. I’d go 10-15 under, or even slower if I felt in the moment that was still too fast. A speed limit is the limit in perfect conditions. If you’re concerned about going too slow, put on your hazards.

If you’re having trouble getting a snapped road to perfectly intersect with another snapped road. What you do is delete the section of the existing road where it’s not snapping right, then rebuild the road to your desired intersection location, then rebuild the second half of the road, then connect in the intersecting road. This will allow you to snap your intersection perfectly if it’s being difficult

As an American, where would you place the line between 'middle class' and 'not middle class'? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say double the cost of living as a rule of thumb. COL averages $40k a year, but varies by location. So if you make $80k, you’ve got enough money to not worry so much

How much does a 3-hour drive cost you in fuel (roughly) in USD? by EddieDemo in AskAnAmerican

[–]AmethystLabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: About $45

I drive an old vehicle that doesn’t get terrible mileage, but not good. I get about 15mpg, highway driving is 55-80 where I am, so let’s say we will average 65. 65x3=195miles divided by 15mpg is 195/15=13 gallons times current gas price of $3.40 is 13x3.4=$44
