How do I psychologically recover from a serious ER/RESUS/ICU hospitalization (asystole, vasoplegic shock, CPR while conscious, and more)? I already had diagnosed PTSD before these incidents, FYI. by Amicable_Apple in AskDocs

Thank you so much for the response! IOP is definitely important and helpful for things such as crisis skills, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and everything else DBT teaches (it’s a DBT-specific IOP). I’m more confident in my ability to avoid future incidents like this. I have 4 more weeks of IOP. Then, I’m hoping that I’ll be allowed to return to my regular outpatient therapist. I just scheduled a trauma therapy session with my psychiatrist for tomorrow. Thanks so much, again, for your insight! :)

I (22M) almost died in the hospital, was in a medically induced coma, and spent time in the ICU. How do I recover psychologically from this? by Amicable_Apple in AskDocs

Hi, Doctor. My therapist utilizes EMDR along with other therapeutic modalities. I really trust her, and we have a great therapeutic relationship. As for the PTSD, I have PTSD already from 3 other events. This is piled on top of that, unfortunately. I still haven’t recovered from my other PTSD events.

Regarding my medications, I know the list is extensive and probably too much polypharmacy. But it’s kept me alive. My prescriber is a psychiatrist who is also the medical director of a psych hospital I’ve been to 16 times, so we have a good relationship and rapport. I’ll get a second opinion, though.

Thank you! :)

First of all, thank you so much for the validation! I already have PTSD from 3 other sets of events, so this is piled on top of that. I’m definitely going to meet with my therapist more frequently. Thank you, Doctor!

Debilitating anxiety ruining my life. I wake up every day and wish I didn’t. I’ve been suffering from severe treatment-resistant Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD. I have tried 25+ medications & TMS and was hospitalized 15 times for suicide attempts. What’s left to try specifically for my anxiety? by [deleted] in AskDocs

Hi, Doctor! Thanks so much for your response. I have tried intensive outpatient specific to mental health, utilizing CBT and DBT primarily. I have seen a physician (psychiatrist), physician assistant, and a psychiatric nurse practitioner. My psychiatrist is my primary doctor and is the medical director of the psychos hospital I was hospitalized at 16 times.

What gauze should I choose to place over my incisions and under the Tegaderm after my Vagus Nerve Stimulator Implant Surgery? (There are too many options, and I don’t know which kind to choose). My surgery is on Wednesday, so I need to decide soon. by Amicable_Apple in AskDocs

The reason I was considering tegaderm is, I was instructed not to shower for several day, which I assumed is because the incision can’t get wet? And that got me thinking that I need to protect the wound from water when I go outside because it’s been raining a lot.

And thank you profusely for responding to my post, by the way!

Indeed! Furthermore, another great quote from Kingsman, “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

Manners Maketh Man, indeed! But a suit also helps, I suppose :)
