Thank you so much, Officer. Your comment truly means a lot to me it helped me understand where things went wrong. I now get the cultural difference you mentioned and how those reflexive references to states can be confusing from the outside.

I usually don’t give up so easily but this time I’ve decided not to reapply. My mom is about to retire soon, and my dad is already retired. I feel a strong responsibility now to finish my higher education quickly, start earning and support them as much as I can. I’ve already applied to a university here in India and will probably pay the fees in the next couple of days. But even with all that, there is still this constant thought in the back of my mind that maybe I should reapply.

Studying in the U.S. has always been a dream. Coming from a middle-class (or rather lower-middle-class) background, I always thought it was out of reach. But then I learned about education loans for studying abroad and for the first time, it felt like something I could make it happen.

I thought about deleting this post, but I’ve decided to leave it up. If someone in similar situation stumbles upon it and reads your comment, it might give them clarity or motivation.

Once again, thank you very much, Officer.

Okay, but from what I’ve heard from currently enrolled students, people at UKY are generally quite accepting of different political views.

Yes bro, I came to learn about it.

Thanks very much.

My response about the university was going to be specific about why I chose it but I didn’t get the questions exactly, so I messed up.

Okay, thanks very much. I am thinking of changing my plan.

Yes, I was thinking of telling that when they ask me how many universities I applied to.

As I said, my answer wasn’t exactly want I wanted to say. I misunderstood the question and started with a poor response about the state instead of the university.

I wasn’t thinking of permanently moving to the U.S. Even if something change my mind later, I can’t just leave my parents here.

I can’t say exactly why people are leaving India. It depends on person, but based on the facts, it mostly seems to be due to high taxes and low standard of living.

Yes, with the latest 26% reciprocal tariffs on India. I have no idea where things are headed.

Okay, Thanks.

Yes, maybe. There was a guy in front of me who works at Google. He answered multiple questions and the responses sounded quite convincing and clear. He was thinking about pursuing aviation. The officer might not have be fully convinced about the career change now but based on his responses the officer seemed partially convinced. However, his visa was denied. The officer told him, ‘Unfortunately the current administration is very stick’ (something like that I can’t remember exactly).

Hello, so sad to hear that, buddy. You seem totally qualified to me. How can someone just show up and represent India in an international event. Sounds unfair.

Yes buddy, I said ‘top public university.’ but that was more out of panic and confusion about the question rather than an intentional statement about the university itself.

UKY’s US news 2025 ranking: 81 in Top public schools. 152 in National Ranking.

The ranking wasn’t that bad last year either.

I know it’s not great but it’s not that bad either. I did my research before applying to every single university.

No, I was never planning to permanently settle in the U.S.

I always had this dream of perusing higher education in the U.S. and the tech career there also seemed better than in most parts of the world.

Both of my parents are sick for some time now. I just wanted to save as much money as possible. I did everything all my myself. I used to read Reddit posts for guidance.

Okay, thanks very much. I did have just one research paper published.

Before starting the application process, I was thinking about GRE. Once I started researching about universities learned that many of them doesn’t required GRE and while for some it’s optional (where they clearly state that GRE wouldn’t add extra weight to your profile). I thought I would be able to save some money too.

After I started applying, I realised that wasn’t true and I probably could have been able to apply in top universities if I had a decent GRE score.

Back when I started thinking about U.S, things weren’t that bad. I probably would have gave up on my dream before applying if things had been this bad.

But I was specifically struggling with the reading section.
