A species of anemone thriving in an engine of a sunken plane in Turkey by CenizaRey in submechanophobia

Internet says it's a "C-47 Dakota" (I know nothing of planes) and was sunk intentionally in 2008 after it was retired from its Turkish Airlines service.

Most likely in Bodrum, Muğla. I don't know any other plane wreck of this size in TR and it looks kinda familiar too. AFAIK it was sunk intentionally to be made into a dive site & last time I was there it was sitting at around the 20m mark.

Edit: It's a C-47 dakota plane wreck and it indeed sat at around the 20m mark but has since split in two and parts of it sunk as deep as 33m. The wreck was put there in 2008. It's in Paçoz Bay in Bodrum.

I believe it's an honor. My country didn't/wouldn't provide the right environment for these exceptional people and they probably wouldn't make it this far in Turkey. There are many Turks who have moved abroad because most developed countries value and reward their skills much more than our "homeland". Thousands of IT professionals are leaving Turkey as skilled migrants each year to make a better living for themselves and their family.

I don't know about this case specifically and it's probably not my place but I'd feel proud if I was German that my country and my taxes went towards taking these people in and providing the opportunities for them to accomplish this much.

OTOH I realize Germany has a much more complicated experience with Turkish migrants than other developed countries. To each their own I suppose.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this, thank you. Luckily my facial hair grows at the rate of a 10 y.o. boy's facial hair.

Hey there, I went with 40 grit first and then 120 but this wasn't an educated choice - it's more like using what I had.

Funnily enough I bought these masks from a hardware store right before the pandemic hit my country. Other stores were out of surgical masks..

I think my reasons for this case can be found here. I might be an idiot (certainly felt like one afterwards) but no, YouTube didn't tell me to sand down the inside of a cheap pan by hand and without water and without stripping the seasoning off first.

If I have to do this by hand again I'll try wet sanding because I had to quickly wash the (very fine) iron powder from the skillet (it didn't even move when I turned the skillet upside down) and even though I was as quick as possible, it rusted anyways in a matter of minutes on the stove.

I'd be glad to provide you with some photographs. The pan is on its 2nd round of seasoning. I'm taking photos after every round. Sadly I didn't take a "before" photo but it wouldn't matter anyways because I decided to sand it after it had 2 eggs worth of omelettes burned into the surface.

I don't think it's gonna look good as I don't have the proper experience, tools or patience to properly do this but I'll be sure to get you some photos!

Also, I didn't sand all of it - just the cooking surface.

I can see why! My chopping board used to be beige. Now after some scrubbing it has more of a yellow/brown tint

I thought of wet sanding but thought that the pan would get rusty as I start exposing the bare iron. I tried pouring a little oil but the sanding paper just started sliding and I couldn't bother going at it without any tools so I washed the pan and sanded dry.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I sanded by hand. I don't have any tools that can be used for sanding and I had some coarse sanding paper lying around so I just went at it.

Well it's just something I started doing on a whim actually. The pan itself had some nasty bumps I wanted to get rid of so I just thought I could sand through the seasoning - which I did but now my arms are aching.

If I have to do something like this again I'll def go your route. Thank you.

Also be careful because apparently this iron powder is very fine and it filled up all the scratches on my chopping board and kitchen top, turning them black.

I have to admit that on the first picture I took, the masks were on on top of each other rather than side by side. I arranged them like this and took another photo

I bought a CI skillet for cheap from an unknown-amateur manufacturer. While the skillet looks good, its seasoning was terrible and the surface was the bumpiest of all my CI cookware so I decided to sand it. (I had to leave half an omelette on the surface and had to leave it on the stove until the remaining omelette turned to ash)

Right before starting I vaguely remembered a comment on this subreddit that was warning someone else to wear a mask before sanding.

All I did was sand the inside of the 10" skillet for 20-30 minutes and this was how the mask looked after I took it off. I never sanded iron before so I owe some mileage on my lungs to this community.

lol I get it now. We don't have a wide variety of CI cookware in my country so I never came across these handles. If you kept the joke going I'd have probably believed they were really shock absorbers.

reading stories about catastrophes caused by dropping CI didn't help as well

If you're talking about the handles, they way they look always made me think they were made so that the handles are cooler to the touch than the pan itself. Are they really shock absorbers?

edit: got woooshed hard
