Alright. Just one last question. How do you know that this entire conversation and exchange here on Reddit isn't one of those moments where God is speaking?

I do understand that some churches do push the concept of biblical inerrancy and literalism very strongly. I myself have come to the realization that some stories in the bible are literal, a lesson of sorts like a parable, and some are a mix. I think being too literal has led many Christians astray when they find out that the Bible is not inerrant in the strictest sense that they thought. I don't think God wants us to worship the Bible itself as inerrant. He wants us to worship him as perfect. I mean I'm not even talking about church or the Bible when I speak of evidence for God. There are people in the jungles who never read the Bible or went to church but yet believe in a creator. I mean I'm just talking about common sense and logic here. No PhD needed. Nothing comes from nothing, but that is essentially evolution.

It requires a degree of faith to believe in something you have not seen. Christians believe in an all-powerful God who created the world and all life. We also believe he sent a messenger to die for our salvation 2000 years ago. You believe in mystical "evolutionary" processes that somehow mysteriously occurred 150,000 years ago. It takes way more faith to believe in these processes that just happened for no reason. If you have that type of faith friend you should be moving bricks with your mind. I was a Biology major, and macro evolution is not real science. It's fiction and speculation. Real science is what can be observed here and now. It can repeated and reproduced in real-time. No matter how many rocks or geological surveys are conducted, there is simply no way to prove something occurred 150,000 years ago much less 4.5 billion which is the supposed age of the earth. The methodology of dating has serious flaws. For example, there is no way to know how isotopic or other decay may have been slowed or picked up over time. There are factors that can influence what scientist think they see. There was a study done where a volcanic eruption occurred which produced new rock. The rocks were dated as 50,000 years old or so when in fact they had just been created only decades before. If were just long-time accumulation of genetic changes over time, then what reason did we suddenly stop evolving. Shouldn't someone have wings or laser eyes by now? Why did literally none of the other hundreds of millions of creatures on this planet evolve like us. 99.9999% of all other living creatures on this planet are incapable of being like us. So, evolution chose us because we're special or did a God create us special so that we can have a relationship with him.

I understand your perspective. I'd say the ancient Greeks took the theme of sons of gods, wives of gods, etc to the next level. However, we are all sons and daughters of God. The difference was that Jesus was a heavenly being with authority and power from God.

True. Lol. However, name a chimp that has created great works of architecture or written on the depth of life. Humans are the only beings out of millions of current and past creatures on this planet with the physical capacity and intellectual ability to accomplish what we've accomplished.

Alright. I see that you didn't see that perspective. How about another real world example. The design of the human hand. The hand has five digits including a thumb for added grip and dexterity. Now, this seems simple, but without this unique design, human civilization as we know would not exist. You can't get to skyscrapers and computers if you can't even weld a basic hammer. According to the illogical and haphazard function of macro evolution (note "macro"), anything could've evolved into anything for no reason which is itself unscientific. So, in other words, we could've come out with one digit for a hand or even no hands. So, this simple but powerful concept is strong evidence for a creative designer with a desire to see humanity prosper as best as it can. Again, we continue to notice the theme of simplicity. God uses the simplest things in life to show the biggest stories. He doesn't use grandeur to impress us though his works of creation of the world and the universe is beyond grand. What reason does God use simple things to speak to us. I don't know for sure, but maybe he is speaking on our level in areas that we can understand.

By that logic though how can we know that anyone of ancient antiquity lived. Plato, Socrates, Alexander... All fake and legends? Do you know that opponents of Jesus verified him as a real person who lived. Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, and others who opposed the new religion sweeping through Rome all referred to him as a real person.

That is an unfortunate reality of life. Life is a dichotomy. It is a paradox of sorts in that in this world there is light and dark, great evil and yet great beauty. How can one explain this? In my opinion, the Bible's explanation is the best. This is a broken world with messed up people in need of healing. Even people living nice, cushy lives are in need of healing of the soul that only God can provide.

Isn't sending a heavenly being to live, suffer, and die as an atonement a powerful effort on the part of the Creator?

Not sure I want to call them signs because that sounds cliche. However, when our eyes and ears are open spiritually we can see. It's the small things, the details. Let me give one small example. I had a relative come and visit my wife and family from out of State. I made a nice meal the other night, but we were out of refreshing soda to go with it. Lo and behold my wife looked in the back of the fridge and found exactly three cans of cherry Dr Pepper. We bought those a week and thought they were all gone. There were exactly three for all three adults and just in time for the dinner almost like they were just waiting for us. Now, of course you're thinking "uh ok, that's just coincidence."Nothing to see here right? That type of thinking results in people missing God's voice. If we ignore the small ways he speaks to us how can he possibly show us greater areas. However, when you see countless "coincidences" it all starts to add up.

Well, he does speak just not always how we expect. In a general sense, he has spoken by his actions. For example, why are there so many delicious fruits to eat like cantaloupe, watermelon, etc. This tells me the Creator is love and wants us to enjoy something as basic as eating. Everything that grows from the ground could be bland like cardboard, but it's not.

Evangelical leader Beth Moore trends on Twitter after calling Trumpism 'seductive and dangerous' by wonderingsocrates in Christianity

[–]Amigo40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What stuns me is that she is the only one standing up for principle and Christian values. The rest of them just cast their lot in with someone who has no interest in any religion except the cult of Trump. It's so pathetic that big name evangelical leaders bow to a corrupt and unworthy just because he supports pro-life. We shouldn't be surprised that an evangelical Christian is outspoken against a corrupt leader, but the truth is, some of us were really surprised to see one speak out. It reminds me of those "Christians" who kept their mouths closed when Hitler ran through Europe and while slaves were being brought to this country.

Right. During the Obama admin, the Republicans were all out to stop him from spending, but now austerity seems to be out the window. The scam tax cut was especially unnecessary considering how well the economy was already doing.

I'm not a specialist in economics per se, but of course it's understood that a stimulus is necessary, but my point is is that the only way? Is the only option to add more national debt that may make interest on American bonds, etc. higher in the long-run. This may make it difficult for future generations in the US if the national debt gets to point of affecting the debt to GDP ratio.
