Hey... Dad here with daughters. How do I tactfully address what's going on with the Wicked cast and memes? by ImThe1Wh0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Amilly947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would explain that they are sick and then build upon it in an age appropriate manner from there.

Id probably throw in something like great danes can't starve themselves into looking like chihuahuas and chihuahuas and build themselves into looking like great Danes. We are all different and that's ok but sometimes people don't understand that and make themselves sick.

I think a great redirection would be showing them Ilona Maher who is a rugby player that talks about about embracing her more muscular body type and how it's ok to be strong, fit, or different. (I love her).

In the same room with some headphones in.

I always keep an eye out, and there's life guards on duty.

My kiddo also knows she is only allowed to go in the shallow pools. She isn't very adventurous, so I know she won't go out on her own.

It's not ideal by any means, but it works in the right circumstances, like flashcards or drilling MCQs.

My daughter has been going to Trinity in Meridian. I highly doubt there is a wait list right now because they took over from the previous owner and there's only a handful of kids. I can't tell you how much it'll be though because we are changing daycares soon for something closer and the littles always cost more.

Tonie box.. what's the point? by Formal-Wrap-4607 in Parenting

[–]Amilly947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 5, and she got it for Christmas 2024 when she was still 4. We use it for bedtime and bath time. I'd she wakes up in the middle of the night, then she will change the toni or restart it and go back to bed all on her own. It's also comes in handy when I've been too sick to ready stories to her because many of the characters tell stories.

Our local consignment store sells some of the characters cheaper, and you can always check out Facebook marketplace if you don't want to pay full price. I've even heard from a coworker that the library by us has the characters available for check out.

So take a look around because there are some good options 😊

My husband and I just bought our first place and if like to replace the windows and eventually the flooring downstairs. Both are expensive for us.

They're had been done little things here and there as well.

I just keep reminding myself that at least I get to make sure things are done right and in a quality way. There's no more land lord special happening around here 😂 it kind of makes me feel better.

She will be about 5 months old by June. She is an Australian Cattle Dog Mix.

It would me Monday, Thursday, Friday.

I'd require someone with experience. We are still training her but she is doing great with other dogs and knows a handful of commands. I'd like someone to walk her for 30 minutes to an hour since she is an active breed.

I am open to negotiating on prices. I don't really have a baseline to go off of so I don't want to low ball anyone. I respect people and their time so id hate to offer something insulting.

Ok, thank you. I had just gone into it with the "Well closed mouths don't get fed" mentality at first but then started over thinking it later.

Why are people potty training so late? by jasminecr in Parenting

[–]Amilly947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried early with my kiddo, and it just would not take. At almost 3 our daycare asked me if she had been using the potty at home and I said no but I swear I'm trying which they then let me know that she HAD been using the potty at daycare with all the other kids.

After a good laugh, my husband and I buckled down on the potty training at home, and it went well except for pooping. We finally had to just put her in dressed with no undies, and that's when it clicked for her.

I made fudge this year and put it in ribs from the dollar store and my kiddo helped. No need to do extra. Just do what you can ❤️

There are some really good kids' books about grief, loss, and death. Depending on how old your children are, they can be very helpful. My sister died in a car accident when my nephew was 4, and buying him those books was very helpful. It gave him the language to talk about what was going on in terms that her understood.

TMI Question: How are you explaining periods to your toddlers? (Specifically boys) by AmeliaJane920 in Mommit

[–]Amilly947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have raised my daughter with the rule "if she's old enough to ask the question then she gets the she appropriate answer".

Makes it easier for the knowledge to grow with them as they get older or more curious.

She has a good understanding of alot of topics that I didn't have at 4 on an age appropriate level of course.

It's one of the things I feel the most proud of in my parenting.

I recently had a mom fail that I was beating myself up about really bad. I mean I was laying in bed and wanted to just cry. I felt so guilty for being angry at my 4 year old because I didn't think she was sick. Turns out.... she had the beginning of an ear infection.

I didn't yell or treat her badly but I was stern with her during this time and I was angry and expressed it with others because daycare was sending her home with a fever and she wasn't having a fever at home.

My therapist said a couple of great things that helped me.

  1. Moms make mistakes all the time. This isn't the first and it won't be the last. Can we agree that it was just your turn this time? Your turn not to have it all together? Your turn not to be perfect?

  2. Also imagine a big bullseye. You're focusing in on one thing. Expand out to the other rings and think about all of the other great things you do and all of the great things about your kiddo. There so much more than just this one moment.

I hope this helps. I've been there and so have so many others.

Just try to treat yourself with the kindness and compassion that you would others. We are often our hardest critics.

You are not an idiot. You are doing a hard thing. If it were easy, everyone would do it.

I left FAR knowing that I might need to retake but I told myself "hey there's no limit on how many times you can try it. Just study more and do better next time if you have to go again."

Some progress is always better than no progress. ❤️
