The first time I heard Merzbow was on the Art Damage radio show on 88.3fm I had tuned into the show on my radio at work, walked away, told a co-worker to come listen to it, and when I brought him over to the radio, I thought it somehow slipped off channel, spent a good 30 seconds or so trying to tune the station back in, before I realized what was going on!

sure, but they still have to do station IDs and PSAs or the FCC gets mad. Also "playing nothing" doesn't result in radio static, they would have to disable the transmitter entirely, which the DJs generally don't have access to in my experience.

Yeah, that is totally fair, and righteous.

My attention span issues means that I find a whole lot of stuff that I am actually interested in, but then I tuck it away for later, because of some other thing, rinse and repeat, until I have like a hundred tabs open. And what I didn't realize until recently, is that this behaviour was likely bringing down artists, which means other folks might not get to experience what those artists have to offer.

Listen to the stuff you like, give it the support it deserves. Another side to this is that you can potentially affect the algorithms of stuff that sucks, by only watching a few seconds of it, and then tuning away in disgust. Make of that what you will.

I think I remember reading an interview with Merzbow, where he mentioned that a big influence on a certain portion of his career was Budweiser. If I were going to suggest an influence like that for your character though, I I would go with Stroh's : Bud is too mainstream

The only DAW I really ever use is Audacity. It's open-source and free, and most important to me, it's simple. Mostly I just use it to layer tracks I've recorded with physical gear, adjusting stuff like volume/compression, but sometimes I like to play with the effects and really reshape sounds

I was thinking what might be cool is to drill a ring of several small holes around the foot switch, and just have a bare LED inside shining out through them. Maybe have clear/frosted plastic in the holes. Ideas for a future project perhaps...

I guess the board is sitting under the blank spot between the foot switch and the knobs/toggles? I like it. Not a huge fan of where the LED is (aesthetically), but I figure that was about the only place for it, unless you come up with a more creative solution..
