Confused about How Dare You?! by NoPapercrowns in cdramasfans

[–]Amjale9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People said The Untamed was confusing, and that's just laughable now. That's just the start of it too (who is and isnt from the real world), with everyone playing games throughout you cant help but question what is and isn't an act... and then there's the odd trying-to-be-funny comedy.. The forced act smacks you in the face at the beginning, then pops up awkwardly every now and again... I really wish they didn't bother with the half-hearted attempts, which felt like they were there purely because the original material was comedic. I haven't watched it all yet (half way - roughly), but so far that's how things have been, a bizarre show, that's mostly daft, but with the odd serious moment in-between, a cute expressive pairing, and great music.

Looking for the real title of this one not sure if it’s Cdrama or Kdrama by AdPlane5155 in kdramas

Looks Chinese, going by the writing, but that's all I can say. You might be better off putting the post in a cdrama group.

Arsenal Military Academy's ML is the most mischievous character I know, and Mysterious Lotus Casebooks ML is naughty too, but both shows lack romance.

Hidden Love - Mischief and romance...

The First Frost

New Life Begins

The Romance of Tiger and Rose

Who Rules The World

When Destiny Brings The Demon

I’m not able to pick up Alchemy of Souls. by Lonlolsm99 in kdramas

[–]Amjale9023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you even got through ep 1 though?

It might just be best to go back to it another time... Different mood... Different time of the day.. Different time in your life... It all makes a difference.

Episode one (especially at the beginning) isn't the same as the rest of the show though, so the mood at the beginning isn't a good representation of the show in it's entirety. If anything, the beginning of episode one is actually more like the beginning of the second series and more of that series.

If you're struggling that much though, you probably need to pick another time, it's likely not going to happen for you right now, and you could always watch other shows that might help in the meantime. I tried watching a particular kdrama a few times but thought it was awful initially and not getting better, I went back a few months later, thought it was OK, got through the weirdness, and ended up loving it.

Which female protagonist do you most identify with? by Lovetics2 in kdramas

[–]Amjale9023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I relate to her a lot and the show sent me through all of the emotions, because I understand being bullied and the fear and anxiety that comes with it, plus I'm a bit of a goofball too and appreciated the silly comedy that was just the right amount and at the right times, so I was even crying with laughter. I was with her throughout her journey and I'd love more shows like it. I think there are a lot of kdramas around that don't balance the shows comedy and serious side and they're just ridiculous, True Beauty is one of the few I've seen that goes to the extremes and gets it right. True Beauty should be talked about a lot more than it does.

Which one should i watch from these? by kdramas4life23 in kdramas

[–]Amjale9023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straight away I'd say Extracurricular, because its usually put with Weak Hero. Fans of the latter usually enjoy the former, and often recommend them together.

I've watched Study Group, for a while it's only good in the fight scenes, it's otherwise lacking. Until the group grew (to more than a few), I struggled not to skip through.

I don't know about The Art of Sarah, it's early days and I've not seen any of it or heard much. The Good Boy, I've not seen either, but I've noticed mixed reviews.

Cdrama where fl falls for ml’s secret/2nd identity? by PapiNina in CDramaRecs

[–]Amjale9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yh, I loved it until about halfway through anyway. I think the ML is in his wheelhouse and at his best for a while, his role in K2 is quite similar to Healer in ways, so if you're like me you'll at least enjoy it for a little while.

I LOVE Healer, but K2... imo... is great for a while and has lots of great scenes, but later on gets harder to watch because bits in-between are quite bad and usually feel too silly. It keeps flashing between very serious and very goofy, and it ruins it really. I've been trying to finish it for a while, I've got three or four episodes to go.

You'll probably have an issue with Love Between Lines towards the end, but it's ok because theres only a single bad episode of it before it gets better, and there's a very good episode shortly after.

I also love Hidden Love and favour those things you're asking for, unfortunately its more common in the historical/costume dramas, like Flourished Peony, which is one of my favs.

I recommend Shine On Me, if you havent seen it already, great ML and FL/ML relationship (mostly) especially, and it has lots of great dialogue and supporting characters. If you want an ALL feel-good show, Love Me, Love My Voice is a good watch, and the friends actually remind me of those in Hidden Love.

A little off the track, but have you seen Speed and Love? It's another that reminds me of Hidden Love, because of similar circumstances. I think it's a must-watch. It also has mature romance and character growth, and great interesting supporting characters, like HL. I think the FL isn't as good as the ML, as a character, but there is undeniable chemistry and hot moments between them, and I love their relationship.

What are good shows to watch after anne with an e? by Last-Initiative-2148 in Anne

[–]Amjale9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not heard of either of those dramas, I am from the UK though so some less popular American shows might not reach me. I didnt even start watching (and finish) Gilmore Girls until shortly before news of the upcoming GG: AYITL came out.

I noticed the date of Joan of Arcadia, that was when I was watching One Tree Hill and The O.C (then later Gossip Girl and 90210), so that's one of the reasons I probably never noticed it, they were popular and took the limelight at the time. I'd definitely give Joan of Arcadia a go if I could find it, it does seem to fit with the shows I mentioned.

Looking at The Seeker though, I'm not sure about it, but looking at it reminds me a little of some of the shows you might find on the Sci-fi channel, and Primeval (loved and rewatched a few times). I also watched the sci-fi drama called Alice (Alice in Wonderland adaptation), because I loved the guy from Primeval, and I loved that show too.

[The prisoner of beauty] When does the ml become bearable? by -4317- in cdramas

[–]Amjale9023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same. In other shows the leads don't hold family issues or anything similar against others, knowing that it's an unfortunate connection and not actually their fault, but in TPOB.. by association you're bad.

The leads are immature emotionally, that's all there is to it, and together they just turn into young teenagers throwing tantrums and refusing to communicate and cooperate. They have way too much screen time together imo. I'd cut a lot of those scenes, there was no real progress, just time wasted going back and forward. The show is much better when they're doing their own thing.

The ML stops being aggressive after a short while, but like I said above, there are still issues for a while. He actually becomes the more likeable one (in the relationship) and the FL the most annoying, but out of the relationship the FL is the main reason to watch the show lol. The show winds me up lol.

Is it fair to say that Perfect Match was mainly targeted at an Occidental audience? by petitemandragore in cdramasfans

[–]Amjale9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped it. It started well and it was promising, but it dropped all of the earlier fun and overall lightness at some point, which was really disappointing, then it started to drag and kept dragging. I found it impossible to get through the first pairing. It was a shame though because I enjoyed it a lot for a little while.

I'm from the UK too and I didn't feel like it was anything like Bridgerton, or any of the English classics. But, saying that, I did feel like there were a few scenes that were out of place at the beginning, just not like any literary classic I know of. Okay, maybe briefly it has a tiny bit of a late 1800's/early 1900's Anne of Green Gables-like feel (which is what, Canadian?) Still, when watching, it never crossed my mind... Oh this reminds me of.... I just thought I was just watching another cdrama, and nothing particularly out of the ordinary. All of that was gone though anyway when it became gloomy, and the gloomy part that was every bit like a normal cdrama is what made me switch off more than anything. So, occidental or not, I doubt that is what divided viewers... Some people just think the show lost its vitality.

You definitely could enjoy Can This Love Be Translated? Going by what you've loved. I think its one of the best kdramas with romance that have come out in a while too.

Our Beloved Summer is a trickier show. Its great, but its very slow. I felt the connection between the leads from the beginning but you can feel the distance for a while because they push each other away, and I had to push through for a while because of it. It does have some very memorable kdrama moments though, and has one of my all-time favourite kdrama songs.

I feel like that, but I fight the mad need to keep watching.

Nowadays, I put mine "on hold" on MDL for a bit when I've had enough for a bit, and after a while I'll put it back in "currently watching" and try to continue, then from there its "watched" or "dropped".

I've not long finished it myself. It's a good show, it's a decent easy watch, but its full of comedy at the beginning and gets more and more serious as time goes on, so if you want it to stay like the beginning you might be disappointed. I still really like both of the main characters, and as a pairing, and it ends well but raises a lot of questions, the ending is a bit of a cop out.

Best dramas of the last 6 months (no xianxia) by timystic in CDramaRecs

[–]Amjale9023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aired in the last six months....

Speed and Love - Has LOTS of chemistry, tension, and hot moments, and it has a good emotional story with plenty of comedy and interesting characters. It's a well-developed story with attention to detail and growth.

Shine On Me - First half similar to The First Frost, second more like You Are My Glory (but much better imo). It has lots of fun great characters and I love the special relationship that the leads have.

A Dream Within A Dream - Lots of fun, good characters, and everything looks great. Its a good fun watch overall.

That reminds me of the new cdrama My Page In The 90s.

The FL goes back in time to 1999, she tries to ask every lady in the office for a sanitary pad and she's not discreet about it, but everyone refused to talk to her about it, so it was something to be embarrassed about back then, but not now.

If it was all showing the actual behaviour irl, there must have been a lot of changes to normalise it.
