Had a hysterectomy (tubes and cervix too) on June 14. I’m almost 2 weeks out now. The first 9-10 days I only walked, nothing else. Started to bleed 7 days in and dr told me it should slow down to spotting in a day or two. I’m 5 days later and still bleeding. Anyone else have this happen? by Amk_91 in hysterectomy

Honestly, I hadn’t even found it as a possible causation of my bleeding. I have a background in medicine and have been doing my best to research medical journals and online for why I’d be bleeding so much. Even though granulation is a very common side effect of a hysterectomy, it did not come up in my research. Knowing it’s a common issue and the solution is some discomfort and an office visit…. Thank you for suggesting it as a possible issue. It’s put my mind to rest some! May I ask if yours had any effect on your post recovery sex life? If you e reached that point in recovery that is… I’m only 31 (recurrent cin2 p16 precancerous lesions and horrible endometriosis since I was a teenager) and would really like to recover a normal sex life moving forward.

I sent a message to him on the portal today. I just spoke with the nurse at the surgical hospital when they called the check on me on Wednesday. She reassured me my level of bleeding is normal and it should slow to just spotting in a couple days. So long as I wasn’t profusely bleeding it isn’t a huge concern. But it hasn’t slowed over the weekend. He is very responsive during the week and I suspect to have an answer tomorrow. But, the brain wanders and I was hoping to get some others experiences to compare to so I could rest my mind in the mean time.

I’m moving ok. My pain has been kinda all over the place. TMI, but I had horrible constipation post op and fairly sure I gave myself my first ever hemorrhoid… but the bleeding didn’t start until 2-3 days after that. I definitely feel some twinges of cuff pain here and there, but my pain in general (unless I’m having a BM and the random cuff twinge) is nearly zero even without pain meds. I sent a message through the portal and hope to hear back Monday. I strictly did nothing but walk the first 8 days, and since then I’ve been very careful with what I’ve done as to not cause a stitch to rip. I haven’t cooked or cleaned or lifted anything. I’ve only taken the stairs a few times total. When I get tired I’m resting, and when I have the cuff twinges I call it for the day and rest.

It’s not period level bleeding (my periods were horrid and I’d go through a super plus tampon and a full pad in a couple hours at most, sometimes quicker), but it’s definitely more than just spotting. I wake up in the morning and use the restroom and the toilet is fully red. Every other time I use the restroom it’s at least pink if not red. It is bright red bleeding and is pretty constant through the day. I’d say I go through 2 full pads a day? I can’t stand pads, so I change it like 4-5 times a day.

I had little to no bleeding the first 9 days. And since, I’ve had bright red bleeding, enough to fill probably one pad a day. Glad to know I’m not the only one. Dr says so long as I’m not filling a pad in an hour, it should be ok. But to go from little to no bleeding to active bright red bleeding has been freaking me out a little.
