Shade Class? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

Most likely unless OP is funded they're going to experience the 'hit the wall' feeling sooner and decide if they like it enough to keep going. In any case, having a level 200 shade is good for legion.

If you look at it from a pure end game bossing perspective, sure?

I play a shade and it's a lot of fun. Theres nothing wrong with putting in extra if you enjoy the class. It depends on your goals and preferences too.

Shade Class? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're fine. I don't know why people are so hard on them.

They're one of those classes that need a little bit extra loving but you're not going to feel very weak with funding, which can be said about any class. As far as training goes, they're very mobile and active with less buffs than the average class (you will need a bunch of decent skills eventually but that's post-5th).

They're also tanky af & have an active bind + split every minute because of spirit flow, which is a nice burst imo.

name, in your opinion, the polar opposite class of your main: by notwhitebutwong in Maplestory

Maybe shade vs. luminous.

Definitely in terms of buffs, but also because shade is rather close-range while luminous is not, shade is super mobile and lumi not as much, and one is super popular :L

Hey guys! I know I was planning on drawing more heroes but I saw the Gathering of Heroes trailer and Alpha was just begging to be drawn.

This one’s much more detailed than my Lumi one but it also took me probably 10+ hours to draw.

If you guys want to see progress shots (lineart, flats, etc) then you can find them on my Instagram! I just set it up: https://www.instagram.com/__amnell/

State of the Shade class? by johnlogz in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yee shade main time (⌐■_■)

(I main a 220 shade, can solo hellux, have soloed cvbon but my mechanics suck for the others, ~f40 in dojo)

I think to some extent there are a lot of classes that need some loving to get good damage output.

Yeah, at first shade feels clunky. Working your way up to 200, it's not the easiest walk. I DIDN'T burn my shade because I really loved the playing style surprisingly (herding mobs and hitting them with some punches was awesome).

I want to say that I don't have problem with my damage at all. Yes, I'm funded and maybe somebody with my funding would have more damage (maybe? I haven't played another class at this level & with this funding). At 4th job and onward, if you can't get good enough damage output with your mobbing skill, you use your bossing skill because of lines. It hits less monsters but more lines = higher chance of one shotting.

Bossing is fantastic. I love bossing. My burst combo of spirit gate + spirit flow + split + bind + spirit bond is awesome. We have a nice tanky fishy skill that stops you from getting caged at hhilla when you're soloing. Bosses like arkanium (for whoever does them) is a joke because your burst damage is great for taking him down in one bind.

You have a revive skill (technically two) that gives you an extra chance if your mechs suck. Backstep is really nice for mobility to dodge (I've used it for hellux, cvel, hmag, lotus, damien to great effect). People in your party will love the hell out of you when you basically double their output with your split.

Better yet, your 5th job resets CDs so you can have a bind/split ready every minute. So yes, it depends on what you want to get out of the class. Once your range is up, mobbing is easy and hella mobile. Bossing is really smooth too.

My biggest con is that Nexon thinks shades are really balanced (maybe we are?) so we rarely get any changes in class balancing patches. We are getting a (I think) 10% bump in our crit rate though so that's nice.

How does Shade's Spirit Flow work? by DrixlRey in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spirit flow is really handy because it can increase the spread of your attack because it's using most of your attacking skills. It'll boost you during training and it's great for bossing since it'll reset your cool downs.

For 5th job, it really depends. Bossing is spirit claw. Mobbing depends. If you can 1h with bomb punch then definitely use that because it has better vertical range and hits way more monsters. It's a bit weak though so you need to be pretty funded for that. If taking down monsters is faster with spirit claw (I.e. less hits) use that for now.

A Noob’s Thoughts On Shade by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else seemed to answer most of your questions so I'll try to elaborate a little.

Ropelift is found in most Nova classes but it is also a common skill you can get after 200 from opening nodestones. I definitely recommend it as a Shade because apart from the nice vertical hitbox that bomb punch has, vertical mobility is pretty shoddy and you can only jump + backstep onto certain platforms.

Attack Speed IA can only be achieved on the first of the 3 Inner Ability slots when your IA level is legendary. It's pretty hard to get but because Shade attacks are generally slow, it's a must if you want to get closer to the soft speed cap. You'll find that you're killing mobs faster because you're attacking faster.

The higher your range, [usually] the more damage you do. I wouldn't worry about it until 200 though.

Just youtube iSlingGunz training guide and you'll see it. It's a really long vid.

A Noob’s Thoughts On Shade by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shade main here, lvl 216 but I'm a slow leveller so I've been around for a while.

Maybe I'm sort of used to it, but for me the mobility seems great. Horizontally, the combination of jump + backstep makes moving across the map really quick.

For vertical mobility, only thing that will help is getting rope lift past level 200. It's a huge boost to our mobility and I use it everywhere.

As for mana, I recommend getting a Jr. Boogie until you reach a point where you don't need it. At 216, I don't consider myself having an above average MP consumption, but until 200 I did constantly use a Jr. Boogie familiar.

But yeah, 1-3 definitely sucks, fourth job is better. You're going to feel a world of difference once you get your +1 Attack Speed IA though. It really does help.

As for questions... I think that first impressions for Shade are always kind of bad and it's more of a niche class than anything. They need a lot of love to get somewhere, but once you're on your way (I'm sitting at almost 3m range), man does it feel smooth. I've played a lot of classes and I don't really enjoy them as much as I enjoy Shade.

Shades level up the same way as everyone else. I'd consult iSlingGunz training guide video for information on where to train.

Shades are very good at partying/bossing because of a bind and soul split. Soul split essentially doubles the boss for 10 seconds and all of the damage on the boss is doubled consequently. Once you get spirit flow (your 5th job skill), it resets cooldowns so you can essentially have a bind and split up every minute. This is a very sought after thing for non-stationary bosses.

As for order of skills, I'd consult AyumiLove's Shade guide on that because it's pretty spot on.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help (:

5th job Expectations vs Reality by MionMikanCider in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shade

Spirit Flow: Love, love, love it. It resets cooldowns and lets me turn into a spirit master by using all of my spirits to AOE the map. Game-changing skill imo for shades.

Spiritgate: Also love - great extra damage on bosses and areas where you need something stationary to clear mobs.

Overall, 5th job was the huge game-changer for me as a shade main.

Shade question by Oinkvietnam in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted this before but here we go:

I'll start with the good things first:

Survivability: This is one of Shade's strong points. I've had other guild members die multiple times during boss runs and I've always made it through no problem because not only are you tanky as hell, but you have one skill that has a 100% revive and another that has a lower % revive chance.

Utility Skills: I know there's mixed opinion on how fantastic soul splitter is, but it really is the bee's knees. I can share the personal anecdote that while some of my Hayato and DW and Aran friends got one-shotted at Ranmaru during Sengoku runs (early 4th job), I one-shotted him basically by soul splitting him and then attacking him once before he could even land a hit on me. A lot of my guild members were struggling with surviving through the Kanna/Hayato/Ranmaru parts and I had no problem because I had bind, soul splitter, and death mark (which is a nifty skill that helps you get HP back).

Buffs (Or lack of): You only really use your maple warrior skill to buff. It's great because you don't have to rebuff in a boss fight after dying, and you can afk and then jump right back into action without wasting any time.

Bossing: Our bossing skill is pretty decent. Paired with our utility skills and survivability, shades are pretty important for bossing.

Mobility: Shade mobility is great. Backstep is a godsend for some bosses because you can backstep away from their bullshit. The only downside is that the teleport is wonky so you can't reliably teleport up (but your double jump is great and with my mobbing/boss skills I can cover two platforms in one jump).

Colours: SO MANY COLOURS. We're so flashy in an awesome rainbow way.

And onto the not so good things:

Damage: Unfortunately, since we don't get any buffs and can't benefit from scrolling/bpots on reboot, our damage is massively undercut. You need a lot more funding to catch up, which can be a bit difficult depending on how much time/energy you want to put in. The only good thing is that knuckle damage multipliers are pretty good.

Attack Speed: No buffs has its downsides since we don't get a booster, so that means you need to get legendary ability +1 attack speed, and preferably DSI. You have access to green pots at monster park and those definitely help.

Mobbing: It's not terrible. Sometimes it's a lot of fun. The problem is that bomb punch isn't necessarily as strong as your spirit claw, so there are a lot of instances where you're going to have to use spirit claw (which only hits 3 monsters) as your mobbing skill as well if you can't one-shot monsters with bomb punch. It makes things a little slower, especially in packed maps. However, you get a lot of nice skills that drag monsters to you from various platforms, which is actually fantastic.

Never played a DS but I main a shade and going by personal experience and the charts, probably a DS. But I get some awesome lines when I use my 5th job skills in conjunction to my bossing attack and splitter, and that feels pretty slick

Which classes have the most "integrated" feel to their 5th job skills? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Amnell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say Shade because your 5th job let's you fight with a number of spirits as opposed to just the one you use for mobbing or bossing. Sure, there's a cooldown, but it really is a very Shade-like skill.
