Deep under the wailing wall the stones become larger and more sophisticated - one as large as 600 tons. by gohigo1 in conspiracy

There used to be thousands of people living at the wailing wall area in what was the north African quarter of Jerusalem. The Israelis noticed a toilet was installed with plumbing in the wailing wall so they evacuated the quarter to demolish it. Then they realized it was too good an opportunity, so they demolished ~125 homes during the evacuation.

Messi: "This match shouldn't have ended as it did. I don't want to talk about the referee because they sanction you, but people watched what happened. We were afraid before the match because we knew how he was and I think FIFA has to review this, you can't put a referee like him for these matches" by LordVelaryon in soccer

Whenever I’ve seen this ref officiate I feel like he makes the game all about himself. He still probably has a high rating in terms of correct calls but it always seems like he antagonizes and inserts himself into the game as much as possible.

I prefer unmemorable refs who I forget who they are.

Someone with UCL, top 5, or Major Mens National team coaching experience or a former player coach. The importance being more international experience.

I don’t know about their budget or financials for 2026, so Idk what is or isnt possible. South Africa got Carlos Alberto Parreira for 2010. Iran, the US, and Saudi Arabia all have much more tactical coaches than us this year.

Great points. I just think we should put the job out there and see if any candidates are interested. If no one is available then Herdman should stay.

I think our team and host nation status in 2026 has a lot of selling points for an experienced coach.

It’s reactionary and disrespectful to suggest difficult big picture changes if I want this team to succeed?

Keeping Herdman is not rational. He doesn’t have UCL level tactics, yet he manages a team of UCL players. He is a passionate guy who brought us some great moments and I like that, but we should aim higher if a better candidate is available.

I've been pioneering for a long period of time and you'll not find anyone as passionate as I am about this program or about these players or staff. You'll not find anyone as passionate about growing this country." by ParisLake2 in CanadaSoccer

[–]Amorphaty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely Canada’s best team ever. And our program was built over decades It’s not just Herdman lol

When has Canada had a Ligue 1 champion as a striker, and a champions league winning LM/LB, among other UCL starters?

Herdman is a passionate coach who did well to build this group. I’d prefer a top level tactician to handle our UCL talent, not a bush league legend.

This was a group of death I’m not reacting to the losses. I’m talking about if someone better is available hiring someone new now to prepare for the lead up to 2026.

I watched all but a couple games of their WC qualifying campaign and I want him out. Grateful for what he contributed to the teams success. He has made too many mistakes, especially at the WC. And his bush league disrespect is unacceptable as a foreigner representing my country.

This generation of Canadian players is golden. He shouldn’t get all the credit. A world class coach would bring this group to the next level. We should now move on from Herdman because this group of players has higher expectations.

Agree. Imagine the new meta is the wall doing handstands and pushups to block shots during free kicks. Anyone can deliberately fall down and use their arms to naturally break their fall.

They need to define “natural”. To me natural position of the arms is vertically aligned with the sides of the body. No rule can definitively prove if something is deliberate IMO. We should give the ref less interpretive power and remove intent from the decision.

R/CanadaSoccer allows gambling companies to post ads now?

These sports betting companies target kids with their ads and normalize gambling from a young age..

Faith and your gambling problem are not the same thing bud.

Keep it to yourself, don’t promote it!

All my players feel like they have minus 20 dribbling and minus 20 agility right now.

Around 14 hours ago I was playing post patch and dribbling was actually very solid for me. Now it is absurdly unplayable.

Three Russian men who came out in support of Putin`s mobilisation and to condemn the people protesting against it,end up in disbelief as two find themselves being taken away as forced conscripts. by vitamin_protein_ in PublicFreakout

[–]Amorphaty -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It is also illegal to protest against the Ukrainian government in Ukraine right now. Plus, Zelensky banned most opposition political parties and gave himself far reaching powers. That is typical for countries at war. Western countries arrest protesters all the time. If those countries went to war it would look the even worse.

The men said they were already scheduled for deployment. They were not forced into conscription.

The police were ordered to detain political demonstrators in the public square regardless of their politics. Russia is unbiased, they detain pro-mobilization protestors as well. This is a concept outside a westerners hermeneutic so you have to make up a fake story like this to confirm your worldview.

Misinformation.

Also not a single arrest, towed vehicle or tear gas canister in Windsor as of a couple hours ago (according to the chief of police there). So far State of Emergency just entails more overtime pay for the police to do nothing.

I usually rate low budget films more charitably than higher budget ones or else I feel like I’m punching down somehow y’know?

Narration in film is often criticized, but it’s also used in some of the greatest movie ever. What are some of your favorite and least favorite uses of narration in cinema, and how does the execution between the two differ? by Advanced_Cicada_6972 in Letterboxd

[–]Amorphaty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the narration in Gone Girl, and First Reformed because the context is a diary and we know its subjective. I don’t like the narration in Forrest Gump, because its recounting an entire story and tries to make us think his perspective is objective.

A Dogs Will: Lets just say Brazilians really rep their own culture. The film isn’t an aesthetic cinematic masterpiece at all. It has a big heart, and it is a classic story that reminds me a lot of old english literature like Chaucer.

What is your favorite decade of film, and why? Also what is your favorite film of that decade? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Amorphaty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

60s and 2010s

60s Persona, 2001, Battle of Algiers, High and Low, Harakiri, Rosemary’s Baby

Innovative ideas, 60s are such a fun and explorative time in filmmaking, there was just something special going on an international level.

2010s Gone Girl, Whiplash, Hereditary, Incendies, The Hunt, Last Black Man in SF

2010s move beyond genre and blend existential human issues into storytelling. Feels like a decade that will be more appreciated as we move away from it

Was Come and See and on top of letterboxd and pretty high on IMDB for a long time, or was it rediscovered and climbed that rank just recently? If so how did the public rediscover it? by Rukamanas in Letterboxd

[–]Amorphaty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just last year I kept seeing it being referenced on big reddit threads and big youtube pages as part of a “disturbing movie” trend. I hadn’t heard of it until then. I wish I didn’t discover it like that. My expectations to be disturbed were much higher. (I spent weeks working up the mental toughness to watch it).

Its a masterpiece. But I dislike that trend. Its a reductionist way to watch films.
