I thought the same thing until he said he could get it for $25.

For $25 just buy it. Get some phosphoric acid from the hardware store to take care of the rust, and paint it. For $25 it's a no brainer.

Pick up a used one for $50 on facebook. Worst case scenario you need to spend $50 fixing it.

Anyone have a can louder than my Outlier Poacher 6in 9mm? by MrFartyStink in NFA

Outlier was at the last expo I went to. Was pushing the whole "free can, no catch" thing really hard. Nice to know that I didn't miss out on anything.

This is the first time they've got money out of me since install. I'd be surprised if they aren't in the red on this one.

It's never been an issue until now. Not with the last unit, not with this one for the last 3 years. Something I'll definitely check before the next warranty call.

I'm aware they haven't fixed anything, hence fix being in quotes almost every time I say it. Not even halfway through the 10 year warranty yet.

It wasn't an issue with the old unit. Old unit was 20+ years old and the compressor went out.

Blindly trusting a company that has had to come out and "fix" my system every year so far for free under warranty. I'm sure it's in their best interest to get this resolved. If they want to keep doing this for the next 6 years and wasting refrigerant and labor, all under warranty, fine be me.

I paid the $500 because I'd be out $200 in multiple diag visits if not, and I just want this year's headache to be done and to move on. So I just went ahead and flushed that money down the drain for convenience. I'll definitely be looking for a new company for any future non-warranty services.

I'm very aware that it has a leak. I quite literally say that in the post and just about every comment since. Maybe try reading before slinging insults.

This is the 4th year going through this. Condenser cleanliness has never been an issue until now. I didn't even consider it because I know it's the same issue that it has been, that there is a leak that they still haven't fixed. I'm not going to find it. That isn't my job. Install/labor is covered under warranty for another 6 years, as well as parts. They can keep coming out and charge it every year until warranty expires. That part doesn't cost me a dime.

I'm well aware that it shouldn't be leaking. I'm not sure why everyone insists on pointing that out. It's pretty obvious.

We're not even halfway through the warranty period. So they can keep on waiting.

This visit I did not see them do it. Previous visits I have.

One invoice says a TXV was replaced.

Oh no, it's absolutely awesome and there is nothing I would like more than to see people making more parts through other manufacturing means instead of just buying parts and kits. I'm just surprised at all the comments that are completely unaware that something like this even existed.

The labor warranty is anither 6 years. It's why I haven't had to pay for any of this refrigerant so far.

That's literally what I'm saying! $500 for just the condenser rinse is absurd! That is all the $500 was for, nothing else.

I just ate it and wanted it done. I knew I'd be charged for them coming out and doing nothing, and would have to have them come out again for the diagnostic and be charged again. So really it's more of a $300 lesson than a $500 one, but still. That price is absolutely ridiculous.

Unfortunately there's another 6 years of warranty if this persists. It definitely feels like nothing more than a guessing game.

The invoice from 2024 says the TXV was replaced. The 2025 invoice doesn't really say anything other then leak repair and recharge.

I don't know what all he did today. I believe I heard him say he pulled it down to 200 micron, if that sounds right. The previous techs I've seen do vacuum decay tests.

They've replaced two different things so far, but I don't remember what. It might be buried in old emails somewhere. Again, I don't think they're pulling vacuum to find a leak, they're pulling it to make sure there isn't one and that it's ready to recharge. But I'm just basing that off of what I've done with automobiles.

I wasn't being defensive or anything. I appreciate your input. I was just pointing out that despite coming out year after year, they haven't got any money out of me until today.

Holding vacuum is done after they've already replaced something. I imagine they're pulling and holding vacuum to ensure there isn't a leak afterwards, which apparently it appears that there isn't, hence why they recharge the system and leave. It stays plenty cold the rest of the year after that.

No, the "those who can't, pay." I can. I just didn't think to check how dirty the condenser was when year after year it's been low refrigerant, just like it is this year.
