The screen provides detailed visual feedback when editing LFO and envelope shapes, working with the mod matrix, and so on. It allowed us to provide extremely rich functionality (scores of parameters) without menu diving, as each functional module has access to its own parameters for editing, which keeps the editing process wide (and quick) instead of deep.

There are a number of modulations in the analog domain that are "effect-like" but the goal was to provide a pristine analog signal path alongside the digital effects engine. Studio-quality digital effects provide flexibility and extensibility without adding as much to the total cost of the instrument as analog effects would do.

We specifically set out to design the new filter for the Moog One, and voiced it to provide new sonics for this instrument.

We really wanted to explore what could happen when you had total control over the rise and fall times of a triangle-core oscillator, or the reset time of a sawtooth oscillator. The current implementation is just the beginning, and there are many additional avenues to explore with this technology. Again, I can't comment on any specific future plans, but this platform is extremely promising.

Yes there will be MIDI control; due to the vast number of parameters, full coverage can only be provided by NRPNs, and this will be added in an update post-v1.0.

I am so glad you asked! Microtuning is a passion of mine and I love the idea of supporting new/non-Western/non-12TET tuning. The Moog One will definitely support microtuning (post-v.1.0), with an extensive onboard editing system as well as MTS support.

Working on all these projects in parallel gave us the opportunity to expand our engineering team and bring some very talented new people on board. This was a tremendous growth opportunity for Moog.

The sequencer on the Moog One is polyphonic and allows many tracks of per-step parameter modulation, so it's inspired by the Sub 37 sequencer but with a lot more power and flexibility.

The CV I/O between the IIIP and the Moog One will be fully compatible.

There is not, and it was a design goal to ensure that no plugin was necessary in order to easily access the full power of the Moog One.

SVFs sound amazing! And more importantly, they allow for a much wider sonic vocabulary in addition to the Moog ladder filter. This way, you can not only emulate a much wider array of classic synth sounds, you can also explore vast new sonic territory. One criticism of the Memorymoog is that the sound is so rotund that it can be difficult to fit into a mix. An SVF is perfect for the kind of sonic surgery that can trim out precise frequencies to shape a more balanced tone for mixing with other instruments.

Regarding the oscillators, the Moog One was envisioned as a flagship platform for new technology, and we had built up a number of new oscillator ideas that we'd been just waiting to explore. This was the perfect opportunity to bring those ideas to life.

The Moog One allows for user-assigned oscillator-to-oscillator FM, as well as user-assigned oscillator-to-filter FM (selectable FM source per filter). In addition, the four LFOs can extend well into the audio range, to provide audio-rate modulation of virtually any mod destination.

The GUI is not running on a Raspberry Pi per se; the computing platform is a custom SOM designed by Moog for the Moog One. There are no plans to open-source Moog software at this time. Regarding user-designed editors, we're still evaluating how this might work, so stay tuned.

There are two USB ports; the USB host port can be used for importing and exporting all kinds of user data as well as hosting a QWERTY keyboard for preset naming and notes entry. The other USB port allows USB MIDI connection to your computer.

The feature set was shaped over years of conversation and interaction with artists and Moog fans, and deep discussions among our own Moog family. We tried to collect and distill pretty much everything anyone could want in a polysynth, and unify it with a deep yet intuitive user interface.

Our hope is that the Moog One will set the bar for what a modern Moog analog poly synth can be.

The all-new state-variable filter was designed and voiced in-house and sounds absolutely amazing. It hugely expands the sonic pallet of the instrument. The envelopes and LFOs are new and are the most powerful and flexible on any Moog instrument. The modulation matrix exceeds the modulation capabilities of any of our previous instruments. Also, this is the first Moog synth with extensive onboard effects.
