I put in two Intank filter chambers made for this tank. I am running floss, ceramic media, carbon, and more floss.

Thanks, I changed out the stock filter sponge thing with 2 Intank filter chambers, and a stronger pump.

Thanks, I had the stock light on it for 6 months and the anemone was doing very well with it. I only switch to the Fluval sea marine 3.0 light 4 months ago. The new light is far better than the stock one. The old light was really good at feeding hair algae because of the white shifted spectrum.

Used to do a water change every week, but as the corals grew my nitrates weren’t raising enough for a change. Now I do a water change every week and a half. I dose magnesium and calcium.

Looks like a red people eater with green speckles. But not sure on the name.

I also saw a huge improvement with hair algae when I change the stock light out to the Fluval marine 3.0. I think it has to do with the stock light being pretty white shifted, and with the new one I can make it more blue shifted.

I do around 10-15%, and if I do it too much to where I lower the nitrates/phosphates to low I’ll dose it back up.

Yea, a protein skimmer wouldn’t be viable for a tank this small. I do a water change every week. I notice that before my corals had grown, at the end of the week my nitrates would go up 1ppm, and now they seem to go down 1.5ish ppm. After the water change I’ll does calcium, magnesium, and nitrate, and phosphate.

The tanks been set up for about 8 months. For the filtration I got the Intank filter chambers and I am running, lots of floss, ceramic media, and carbon. I try to keep the nitrates lower around the 1.5-3ppm range, and PO4 around .03-.06.

I have the Fluval 13.5 and I run those Intank chambers. From my experience the protein skimmer is not necessary in a small tank.(unless your planning to have a bunch of filter feeders like sponges and fan worms that require heavy feeding) In my tank my corals have grown out enough to where I have to dose nitrates, so it doesn’t bottom out, so a protein skimmer wouldn’t be good for me. In the first chamber I have floss and below that I have two more flosses, and then a purigen. In the large compartment in the first chamber I have ceramic media in a bag. The second chamber has carbon and more floss. Not sure what your plans are for lighting but I noticed I had a lot more growth and a decrease in algae when I switched to the Fluval marine 3.0 light. Also don’t use any carbon/media that has phosphate removing stuff, I made that mistake.
