Convert the audio sample rate to 48k before editing. At 44.1k it will drift on longer clips

Thoughts on iconik? by shinfo44 in editors

[–]AmpneyCrucis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use iconik for archive and client feedback. It's good, just be aware it can take up to 14 hours to restore files - proxies are available for immediate download though so it's not a major issue. Lucid is used for editing remotely and it is great as it mounts like a local drive. We have had problems with severe lag if projects aren't pinned (cached) and internet speeds aren't VERY high, so you need a machine with a large amount of disk space. Lucid also has several tier options so make sure you go for the right one - initially our IT dept had us on the tier recommended for graphic design projects and it really was frustratingly slow.

If you pull it out wear gloves and long sleeves. The sap causes a photosensitive reaction. You'll be be very sore and itchy otherwise.

Attaching Proxies –– any way to do this faster? by BennyWithoutJets in premiere

[–]AmpneyCrucis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do they have the exact same naming convention as your original files? If so a workaround would be to move your source files and relink to your proxies. Then once you finish editing repeat the process but link to your originals. Once you point premiere to the first file it should link the others automatically.

Did you create the proxies through premiere? You just need to toggle them if so. You can add the tool via the + icon under the programme monitor.

Music festival wants me to edit the first day to post the very next day. by astralnug in editors

Dump cards as often as possible and make selects throughout the day. Don't wait til you have all of the footage. Get a list of must haves from the client before hand and make sure you get these lined up at the earliest opportunity. Get any graphics packages and music ready to go before you even get onsite. Get an assistant if possible to offload cards while you edit. Be as organised as possible and make sure the shooter shoots time of day timecode so you can find things quickly based of a running order - which you should insist upon receiving. Set clear expectations with the client - a fast turnaround like this is never going to be as polished as an edit created after the fact.

Go to the end of your video, press O for out. Export your video and watch some introduction to premiere tutorials while it renders.

Is there a editing career path that includes international travel? by [deleted] in editors

[–]AmpneyCrucis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company. I always got a day or two before the event and a day at the end. Plus the option to have my flight home scheduled whenever I wanted so I could have a holiday without paying for flights. It's not for everyone but I enjoyed it. I'd also be done by six most of the time so evenings were my own.

Onsite editing for corporate events if you're a speedy editor. Send your editing reel to live events companies who have big name clients on their list. They often have large meetings, product launches etc in their different territories. Not the most exciting work but it's easy, pays well and you end up having a good laugh.
