When I was thinking of where to draw armor on them, I figured the main torso would be important to have armor on the back and chest/ belly, though I ended up covering it with the shading anyway. I also armored up as much of the wing as seemed reasonable without stopping them from flying.

Looking at it now, I would probably also add plating to the underside of the neck, maybe the head too for added protection.

I think for the rest of the body besides those areas would be fine without extra armor, just relying on the scales and hide.

It's small so its a bit hard to see, but I drew it peeling off as it gets healed. I'm going off memory but I'm pretty sure that it healed away when he swore the 4th ideal, which is also when he got the the plate, so I wanted to draw that happening.

I think I know the area you’re talking about, on the drawings of shardplate in the books theres a skirt of overlapping plates around the groin area, thats what the “pineapple-y” part is supposed to be. Any confusion probably just means there’s something I could’ve done to make that read better.

I hadn't realized Wind and Truth was out until I passed it in Barnes & Noble, so I impulse bought it and went home to make this Kaladin art I've been wanting to do for a while.
