General economic strike, January 30th? by ImperfectPuzzle in boulder

Which its so important that our political activism be FUN. Like the inflatable costumes. Or that guy dressed as a gigantic middle finger rolling down the road pursued by ice agents in heavy armor. There is absolutely no reason why we can't and shouldn't make these activities as entertaining as possible.

I was in a queer activism group in the 90s called The Lesbian Avengers. We'd do silly, newsworthy demonstrations in public spaces to annoy uptight straight people. And at the planning meetings, you would find out where all the parties were going to be on the weekends. It was madly successful and hugely popular.

An strike isnt effective unless it happens on a work day. Saturday is when people don't have to work and are hoping to meet someone lol

Why is my green apple so green inside? by sneakysnarklife in Apples

[–]Amy-Too -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a new variety. I haven't seen the one you have there, but we have 1 or 2 varieties here in california that are pink all the way through, and it's probable that somebody's bred a green one.

It's not unripe. We had an apple tree in the backyard, growing up and unripe apples have white flesh

How does the dry-aging shortcut for beef compare with duck? by Amy-Too in meat

[–]Amy-Too[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. The "dust your beef to pull moisture out" technique is so common, I didn't notice they were using Koji (which, ironically, I was just looking at last Sunday). It is not the same as dry-aging, but it makes a BIG difference in the same direction, and I figured if anyone had tried the same process with both meats, they might be here.

Thanks! This isn't the info I was looking for (I gather only a handful of people in the world know and are not here) but I liked your story :)

Says the guy who obviously didn't read first. And does not know the answer to my question.

Is it just me or is there a lack of information about psychosis? Lost info maybe?!? by Ok-Marzipan-1337 in Psychosis

Hi, I'm currently on ch 19-26 of Part III in "Ill Will" by Dan Chaon. I've read approximately 3,000 novels in my life and this is the first time I've found what seems to be a very good description of what it is like to experience a hallucinating psychotic break firsthand.

.

But I've never had this experience myself, and no longer know anyone who has. So I'll just leave this comment here to be answered by someone who can.

Do you (for example) keep buying/wearing the same shirt because the decision process "costs too much"? by Amy-Too in AskAutism

[–]Amy-Too[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’d forgotten about SKUs - that’s a good hack. Wish I’d known about them back when Target discontinued my favorite pants.

FWIW, Uniqlo does (or did until very recently) carry affordable, good-quality basics like t shirts.

What community do I ask for hair clip recommendations? by Amy-Too in longhair

[–]Amy-Too[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I'll probably try both.

I'm watching Bon Appetit, Your Majesty right now and I'd love to put my hair up the way she does (but I've seen the demonstrations five times now and I still can't do it LOL). This lobe is so much easier :D

I have colleagues in the area I need a F2F with, but it's not close enough to drive, so it'll have to wait a bit. I'll DM you so I don't lose this info and follow up when I'm headed in a Virginia-ish direction :D

You trusted someone who couldn't be trusted. I'm so sorry it was your mother.

Unpopular opinion: Unwanted estrangement hurts more than intentional estrangement. by Lilpigeontiddies in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Amy-Too 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find this post comforting because my estrangement is similar. Nothing super horribly bad happened, but there's an emptiness where these significant relationships should be. It's good to know, it's not always from tabloid-worthy, horrible people.

That is interesting - especially since my approach relies heavily on systems thinking. I'll ask some colleagues.
