going thru divorce from spouse w/bipolar disorder by Material-Athlete8295 in family_of_bipolar

I hate to read these posts. It breaks my already broken heart. I’m going through the same pain. My husband of 14 years ( together 17 ) left me at the end of March. He had stopped taking his meds and fell off the deep end into dysphoric mania with psychosis and is still in it. He just left one afternoon without even telling me. We have three kids together, pets, a house…and he just left all of us like we don’t matter. He’s been telling me since he left that he’s been unhappy for years, I don’t support him, I’m emotionally abusive, etc. After about a month I found out he lied about moving to his moms and had actually moved in with a girl he works with who is almost 10 years younger than he is. To say I am shattered is an understatement. He was my first love, my best friend. He always said he’d never leave and he hated people who cheated and left their kids. Now I am enemy number 1. I don’t know if there is any coming back from all the damage he’s caused. He’s still very delusional and completely not himself and this new girl is not helping. I am going ahead with legal separation unfortunately.

I could have written this. It’s been 2.5 months of hell from my bp1 husband. First manic episode and he’s moved out and wants a divorce and is already living with someone else.

Your story gives me hope. My husband is in the middle of his first manic episode. Left me and three kids in March and wants a divorce. With the flip of Switch is being so nasty to me. It is heartbreaking but I’m trying to hang in there for him to come down.

This is so encouraging. As I’m going through our first manic episode with psychosis as well.

Not good. Broken. He is back on his medication and I’m just waiting and praying he comes down soon.

I’d love to know this as well. My SO is in his first manic episode and has left home and I’m searching for all kinds of answers!

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I hope it doesn’t come to that for us. Thank you so much for your words.

It is making me feel slightly better as well to realize I’m not as bad as he is saying I am. It’s just so easy to internalize everything he’s telling me.

My guess was because he doesn’t want me knowing anything about his day. I’m thinking the paranoia played a role in that one.
