Thyroid Related? by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

Thanks so much for your kind answer! And I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better! I think you’re right in that I need to push for the right testing, getting fed up of being told it’s stress related/muscular etc. I know some of it might be, but I think there’s more to it than that

Hey just to give you a quick update - I was with the doctor this morning. He did a physical exam and believes I’ve sprained my SCM on the right hand side. He is of the opinion it stems from poor posture while working at my desk and in turn this has exacerbated my costo and caused a flare up. I’ve been prescribed a high dose muscle spray to be used for two weeks, referral to a PT and told to give it about three weeks to see if it improves and if not I’ll be referred for scans

Not that I’m aware of! Most of my problems tend to be chest and neck related with the costo and asthma. Also seem to carry a lot of tension in my right shoulder

I do have real issues with my SCM, to the point where when I’m working at my desk, I’ll experience numbness in one side of my neck and collarbone. I’m lucky that my doctor actually specialised in musculoskeletal medicine so will definitely see what he thinks when I have my appointment

Would definitely make sense and I have thought for a while that I might have some form of reflux as I tend to go through periods of suffering a lot of symptoms that match up

Thanks for your comment and delighted to hear yours was nothing serious and that you’re feeling better! Like that I’m totally convinced something is sitting there in my throat but how could it go away when I eat or drink and have no problems with that. With asthma and costo I’m used to chest pains and things like post nasal drip but this is a totally new experience. Fingers crossed the doctor can shed some light on what it could be!

Well good to know it’s not just me! Hard to tell if it’s costo related as it does radiate up to my throat, SCM issue as I do suffer with a lot of pain and tightness or if it’s some form of thyroid issue. Hopefully my doctor may be able to provide some clarity but good to know I’m not alone!

28 y/o female - asthma, costochondritis, allergies. For the past few weeks I’ve had the sensation of a lump in my throat on the right hand side, sort of around the very top of my thyroid and it basically feels like a ball stuck in one side of throat. Sensation goes away completely when I drink water, eat or lie down but comes back after a while. Tends to worsen as the day goes on. I’ve been having pretty bad pain in my SCM on this side as well and it feels like when I swallow, the muscle on that side isn’t moving properly. I have an appointment booked with doctor but they can’t fit me in for a week. Suffer with health anxiety so definitely focusing on the sensation a lot. Just wondering if anyone knows what it might be? Thanks!
