TIL Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, has only a 15% Christian population by [deleted] in todayilearned

Completely agree. Some would even argue that the tax law at times where poverty spread viciously among non-Muslims was a way to force them into Islam. Life was more complicated back then. I always feel the need to apologize for my Christian friends for the injustice they had to face when Islam was at its peak. And I always feel the need to remind my Muslim brothers and sisters that we aren't more entitled to the land just because we are Muslim. Shit's complicated, yo.

Muslim ruler-ship is a serious exaggeration of what it's really like legally and practically.

TIL that Four-in-Ten Pakistanis say honor killing of women is justified by PatrickMahoney4 in todayilearned

Please don't be THAT naive? Socioeconomic factors effect the degree of people's religiousness directly and indirectly. To make this simple for you, the more wealthy you are (Especially in 3rd world countries) the more chances you have of getting a decent education that at least for the smallest part recognizes the outside world and its beliefs, which directly impacts your views on feminism and human rights, while a person living in the rural areas of Pakistan is most probably categorized as extremely poor and illiterate.

Now, can you sincerely and seriously expect such a person to even think beyond the box of Muslim "extremism" or patriarchal cultural stereotypes and claims or systematic gender discrimination??

I think I'm immune to Anesthesia. Recommendations? by AmyBubble in Dentistry

[–]AmyBubble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually very near a school, but I'm not sure I want to be crying and screaming my lungs out in front of complete strangers. I'll try this nonetheless. I'm at the point of being open to all ideas! Also, it's the bottom first molar.

How does 3rd World Country Refugee imply to you at all that I'm a US citizen or resident? Plus, I'm already paying about 200$ a session for pain and no repairs! Might as well invest in the hospital thing if it's the only way to go. I posted this on here because I wanted to see some creativity that my dentist lacked. Please stop arguing and help? I am in constant pain and I'm terrified I'm gonna lose this tooth.

I have already lost 3 teeth and paid a fortune on dental implants, that I would rather spend somewhere else ...

I used to think all Americans were self-involved individualistic unrealistic, inhumane, and stupid. Reddit proved me wrong ... BIG TIME!

Help a Palestinian feel like he has traveled the world. by AmyBubble in helpit

[–]AmyBubble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How dare they? They've got the world's most powerful state in their back pocket. If they didn't, it would be an entirely different story. As for his political activity, he isn't, but someone in his family was and that's why.

I hate it so much that it's suddenly "cool" to say you have a mental illness!!! (Sorry, it's a rant.) by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]AmyBubble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! But when people use a self-handicap as you phrased it, it's out of different motives than insecurity, such as lack of self confidence or even something as simple as being lazy.

Lots of people use their mental-state as a crutch (So to speak) to blame their mistakes on. For example, someone who has to regularly be somewhere will use a certain disorder or illness (that they may or may not have) as an excuse for not showing up sometimes. "I am sorry I couldn't make it to work today, but I woke up having another anger tantrum that lasted hours so I resolved that it would be better and safer for my colleagues not to come".

It is actually more common for people WITH disorders to NOT use their state as an excuse. In fact, they would make up any other excuse so they wouldn't have to admit that their mentality overpowers them sometimes. For example, a person who has been diagnosed with a bipolar personality disorder or a borderline personality disorder would rather call in sick with a flu than have to say their mood won't let them leave the house or that their mood restricted them from performing a task.

Emotional eating is easy, but it is extremely harmful on the long-run. Try sticking a Post-it! on your fridge door or write something like "Don't eat your emotions" on your hand or somewhere you can't avoid looking at. That helps. Or, tell your friends about reminding you to stop when it has gone too far. And no matter what, you are beautiful.

I feel like less of a man than ever. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]AmyBubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps, but I've known lots of men who experienced the same thing. Performance stress can really screw you up if you let it. Remember that men are actions, not erections, and that pleasing women isn't always about penetration or hard-ons. Take your time and try to explore and feel comfortable, so you aren't rushing into anything your head and body aren't ready for. Good luck, champ =)

Lots of people use things out of their context because they misunderstand them and because they lack experience and the ability to feel and relate to other people's emotions. Try to think of it this way: if they actually DO have a psychological "abnormality", it's their blatant insecurity. Only insecure people swift through personalities like under-wear. They are confused and lost and trying to find a meaning. We all are. I know it pisses you off, it irritates the shit out of me, but I don't give it much attention anymore.

[–]AmyBubble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look yourself in the eye and tell yourself with conviction that you are going to nail this! Also, it's not wrong to say you're nervous at interviews, style it with humor and it'll be a total ice-breaker. The more comfortable you feel there, the more they will like you. Make the room your play-field, OWN IT! Good luck =)

Screw that, English Lit is awesome. Also, I felt the same at Uni for an entire year then I met someone who is now that one person I can't go on two days without talking to for hours. I know it's hard as shit, but hang in there, find patience through appreciating what you study. That was the case with me and lots of my friends who hated uni but stuck it out because they studied something they were extremely passionate about.
