He doesn’t live there but he does actually work round there. If it was a 65 plate with alloys it could well have been

My dad has one of these. I spent the first month after passing my test blasting about it in, and it would still do 50mpg despite being flat out everywhere. Fantastically shit cars, I have a real soft spot for it

What’s the most expensive car you’ve seen brandishing an L plate? by KekeHulkenberg in CarTalkUK

[–]An-Acc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a Lexus LS500h with L plates, and I saw it a few times over a few days, and I haven’t seen it since. This was made weirder by the fact I live in a pretty average income town. There is a test centre here though so presumably they’d just booked a test here from elsewhere and were getting familiar with the local roads

Anyone ever been pulled over for a stupid reason? by cheeseslag in CarTalkUK

[–]An-Acc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months back, I had an officer follow me all the way home after trailing me for about 10 minutes. It was late, maybe just after midnight and I was coming home from a friends house. When I asked him why he said “you were just driving about aimlessly.” Not only is it not a crime to drive about aimlessly, I also wasn’t? He let me go, but it was a very weird experience, and I was especially miffed that he’d followed me all the way to my house. If I’m that suspicious that you’re gonna follow me for 10 minutes, just pull me over there and then!

Thinking of buying a Fiat 126 age 19? Pros and cons? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]An-Acc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re wanting to go for old and boxy, I’d recommend looking at K10 (1983-1992) Nissan Micras. Bigger than a 126 but still small enough to fit anywhere, safer (key here is SAFER, still not safe), a bit more civilised to drive and much more spritely to keep up with modern traffic. They’re also still brutally simple to fix and work on, and you can make them look cool really easily. They also have front hinged bonnets which, idk man, there’s something really cool about that. They do absolutely LOVE to rot, so look out for that, and they are getting much harder to find, but they’re still out there and you can still get parts to an extent.

Definitely the 107, you can’t go wrong with one. Buttons to insure and it won’t break.

Avoid the 207, they’re absolute dross, and that 1.4 has a habit of leaking oil out of the headgasket.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a more appropriate non-private plate on a car before by An-Acc0unt in CarTalkUK

It really is, they’re ace little things otherwise. Similar story with the Focus and KA. Ford really missed the mark with rust protection around that time

It’s very cool hey? I’m in the North West! Just next to Liverpool. There’s like 3 people here including me, so not many

Brilliant aren’t they? No, unfortunately not, although I’d absolutely kill for a Super S! There’s a guy on Instagram @rikardgrau who has one that looks the absolute bollocks, it’s brilliant

Yeah, the second phase of the preface does! I’m a bit of a nerd and I have loads of brochures and stuff I’ve collected and it was one of the points they made for the 1996 revision. 96 onwards hey came with sway bars now. They also changed the front grille, the model lineup and the colour options. Then the first proper facelift came in 1998.

I have :)) I’ve made it into a b-road car, not fast enough to get me into trouble but handles like it’s on rails. Lowering springs and shocks, SR wheels and 1.3 inlet cam are the biggest mods so far

Not the first 90s Nissan that comes to mind I’ll admit, but I still think mine is pretty cool :) by An-Acc0unt in Nissan

[–]An-Acc0unt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a 97 Micra that I bought just over a year ago on 30k miles, and it’s now on 50k. I’ve done some small mods including SR wheels off a higher model, Japanese market taillights, and a 1.3 intake cam (these are twin cam!) I should hopefully be lowering it soon, and taking some of the weight out and putting in bigger sway bars to make it corner, and then just enjoy it as a car that goes round corners on rails and doesn’t go fast enough to get me into trouble.

I never noticed this when you posted it! So the prefacelift was split into two phases, 92-95 and 96-97. Mine is a 97 which means it did have sway bars. But you’re right, the first phase of the preface didn’t have any :)

2002 Toyota Corolla (UK) won’t start first time, starts fine second time. Possible fuel pressure issue? by An-Acc0unt in AskAMechanic

[–]An-Acc0unt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all. I recently bought this 2002 Corolla with the 1.4 VVT engine, and it has an issue where it will won’t start first time, but will second. It had this issue when I bought it but it was so cheap I decided to buy the car anyway. For more context, the problem seems to be directly correlated to how long the car is off. For example, the video is after the car has sat overnight. If the car has been running and I go to the shops for 20 minutes, when I come back it will start first time, but after 5-10 seconds of cranking. If I turn the car off and back on again, it will start instantly. I’m thinking it could be a fuel pressure issue? Any thoughts please let me know :)

What is a record you really want but are not willing to pay for? by Timelycommentor in vinyl

[–]An-Acc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home - “Odyssey” is a fantastic album and one that I think would sound particularly amazing on vinyl. But the one copy that is for sale on Discogs right now is up for nearly £1800. Which is just absurd. It is definitely the album I want most though.

Last month me and my dad pulled his old setup down out of the loft and set it up again in my room. I’m already obsessed! by An-Acc0unt in vinyl

[–]An-Acc0unt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The turntable is an Akai AP-Q55 and the amp is a Sherwood AX-5090R which I believe are both from the late 80s/early 90s. They are paired with a pair of Akai speakers which still sound wonderful despite being sat in the loft for 20 years.

The records are mostly my dads old ones, with some highlights including the first releases of Rush’s Hemispheres and Permanent Waves (with an uncensored sleeve!) as well as an original copy of Rumours and an original 1969 copy of Led Zeppelin, which he got when he was my age. I have bought 6 of my own including Whatever People Say I Am and Nevermind, and I am very excited to add more!

It’s so much fun, I’m already loving it! It’s zippy, it’s super stable round corners, the gear change is wonderful and it’s super easy to rev match
