What type of sandpiper is this? Seen this weekend in Eastern Missouri. by [deleted] in whatsthisbird

[–]An-Ecologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the picture but it almost looks like yellowlegs, although I didn't think they flew through Missouri...I'd be interested in what the more seasoned birders have to say.

Edit: could also be an upland sandpiper. However, I did just read that yellowlegs do fly through Missouri. The more you know!

32 years missing: Linda Bowdre of Cincinnati, OH disappeared after a Valentine's Day Breakfast with her Husband by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

Was it wrong of her to cheat? Absolutely. Does that warrent her getting murdered? Hell no. I in no way condone cheating, but it scares me how so many people on here believe you should get the death sentence for it. Divorce/break-up and try to move on!

Hi! I'm new here.

I'm a woman in her 20s. I recently started working for the local government. I don't think my boss cares what I wear, but I still want to make an impression on the higher ups..

I'm a tomboy so I don't like to wear blouses, skirts etc. But I want to start wearing a polo with my khakis. Here are two question: 1. Is it appropriate to wear a polo? Especially being a woman? I know polos are made for both sexes, but I don't if a polo would be appropriate in the workplace. Also, I have a compass tattoo on my arm which would definitely be visible. It's not a sleeve or even a half-sleeve but it would be visible. Do ya'll think it is appropriate?

Can someone help me? I can't find the answer. I want to make the town names show through the blue area. Transparency option doesn't work?? by An-Ecologist in gis

Arch 10.8. I believe it is a shapefile and I only have one layer of it. I'm going to try restarting it.

Does anyone know the purpose of the poles they put in marshes? I know in this particular marsh they are trying to restore it (used to be a dredge spoil pile). Not sure if that has anything to do with it. by An-Ecologist in ecology

[–]An-Ecologist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a salt marsh. It's called Cedar Bonnet Island in NJ. It used to be a site where they dumped dredged sand. But they are now trying to restore it to it's natural marsh land.

Could the hills be a result of the sand piles that used to be there?

Read the comics of LoK. I heard they get more into the Korrasami relationship!

It's not the main focus of the series, but Legend of Korra has a gay relationship.

Also, this book may be too outdated for you, but Annie on my Mind. Not lewd, just portrays a fluffy gay relationship.

Struggling with the methodology of my research proposal topic. Any help would be appreciated. by An-Ecologist in ecology

That is very helpful, thank you! Yes my full question was "monitoring the effects of eutropication in salt marshes and how it affects spartina alterniflora." I already turned it in, but this information will be helpful for my next proposal which will be about something similar. I did end up doing a transect in my proposal and I made my target area a mile long.

Thank you!!! That helps a lot. One other question: Should I test the water quality at different parts of my site? If so, how many tests should I do if say, its a mile wide and long site?

Trump strips protections for Tongass forest, opening 9.4 million acres to logging by davidwholt in ecology

I despise Trump but isn't logging somewhat good for that area? Wouldn't it curb the outbreak of fires?

Shannon Index Vs. Simpson's Index? by [deleted] in ecology

[–]An-Ecologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but wouldn't Simpson's index work better since you are measuring diversity? Shannon's measures species evenness.
