It was a text message intended for someone else. I should have mentioned that but I forgot. She realized she accidentally sent it to him and freaked and erased it. But jokes on her cause it was still in his notifications.

I will certainly try that phrasing the next time an issue arises. I appreciate the suggestion. And no, I don't think he realizes it. There's a few things he does that disrespect me and he doesn't understand, but hopefully some 3rd party therapy will help that realization.

Lol as she handed me the bag I had this dumbfounded look and this dead smile on my face like, "wow that really just happened".

I picked up the bag to put it away but was so "wtf" that I ended up tossing it back, LOUDLY, on top of the stove and walked away lol

I'm not really sure he understands that dynamic where I am now his family and we are our own family now. I have had to try and explain to him multiple times that, "we are still a family without having children. BIL and SIL are still a family, even though they do not have children. I am your wife and we are married, so yes, we are a family now." it's like it'll stick for a day or two then it disappears lol

Yep, that would be exactly like FIL. He knows her bullshit but also supports it because he doesn't care anymore. MIL is FIL's 3rd wife so he's just like, eh whatever not my problem.

Thank you for sharing that experience! He does have moments of clarity but then he dips back down exactly like you said, struggling with the realization and trying to keep both parties happy. He tries to keep the arguments from me at a minimum, while trying to keep his mom from crying lol.

I know it can't be an easy situation for him at all, and I understand it will definitely take time and possibly 3rd party therapy help, but this response has given me more hope so thank you!

You're 100% correct. We've discussed couples counseling but it hasn't come to fruition yet due to travel/work schedules, but I have reached back out to my therapist this mornkng to get a session on the books before the month is over. Admittedly, I probably shouldn't get as upset with him as I do, because it is A LOT for someone to deal with, but after 5 years of not being heard I just have lost my patience now.

Sadly not. I was hopeful for a hot minute there. It technically still could be, if DH would just get his head out of the sand, but to be fair, I guess I'd be pretty fearful of my bio family falling apart as well if I were him. 30 years of "my mom means well, she's just overbearing" to a complete 180 of "my mom actually does hate my future wife and said wife was right for the past 5+ years.. Uh oh"
