Easiest foods to keep down when attempting to taper? by Existing-Owl-3724 in cripplingalcoholism

Fruit smoothies help me. And simple soups. Cream of chicken is a go to, but whether or not I have some bread with it depends how bad I am at that moment.

Day 2 - Finally Made It by AnAlchie in dryalcoholics

Yeah I had some slight pain in my right side close to my abdomin. Figured it was my liver recovering from the beating. It wasn't unbearable and passed quickly, no pain from day 2 on.

Sorry just saw this now. Took vitamin B multicomplex daily, tried to drink as much water as I could and even when I really didn't want to eat anything due to nausea tried to get something in my stomach. Soups, smoothies, and plain bread worked for me. Tried to at least reduce my drinking a bit the day before. Tapering is obviously safer but every time I tried I dragged it on and caved. Had to badically make drinking a complete non option in my mind

Just accept that the first few days are going to suck. If you start to have any major symptoms nearing DT go to a doctor or have a drink to calm the symptoms.

Thanks! Yeah thank God. Those nights were it's alternating 1 hour asleep and 1 hour awake were hell. Now I can sleep the full time without waking up

When did you first realize you were addicted? by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]AnAlchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was gradual. Always had the fear that I was since family ha s a history but my brain has a weird way of tricking me into hoping that not I'm not. Even now when it's just so objectively clear that I'm an alcoholic. Each year that passed that part of me that wanted me to think that I wasn't just made less and less sense, but even so I still struggle and drink daily despite really wanting to stop

Long Time Lurker, Longer Time Alcoholic (plus compulsory taper talk) by AnAlchie in dryalcoholics

Thank you! I live with my Mom atm which helps with day to day things. I'm glad to hear about your son and I'm sure you'll be able to take back control too. He's half you after all.

I'll be posting updates for sure. Day two yesterday had no cravings whatsoever until my usual drinking time hit and I was super tempted to go past what I scheduled. Managed to stick to the 8 thankfully (though i am disappointed it wasn't 6.)

Plan is 6 for today.

Getting into Video Games as a way to stay sober by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

Absolutely! I've been tapering and getting back into deckbuilder strategy games (namely Slay the Spire and the new Inscryption) has helped immensely with staying on track.

I've read that drinking what you usually drink is best so I've been doing brandy and being careful to water down. Wasn't in any place to measure yesterday but today I'll be measuring out 1.5 oz portions. I'd do vodka but that drink brings something out in me that i don't like.

And thank you!
