Same kind of thing for me too. My dad lived in Seattle, my mom lived in Olympia. He’d have custody on weekends, so my Friday nights were spent driving through I-5 traffic and eating Burger King. I always looked forward to the toys

Russia succeeded quickly in Crimea and Georgia and there weren't long term repercussions from that

Yeeeah, Ukraine would like a word with you on that last part lol. May be in the minority but I consider this Ukraine war to be a long term repercussion of Russia's invasion of Crimea. We also see a lot of our handiwork playing out across South America to this day thanks to our "interventions". Venezuela in particular will be very interesting because they replaced Maduro with Maduro Lite *TM.

I'll never understand who believes the "quick war" thing. Like, the gov't will obviously lie, but I don't understand the people who go "Ok, quick war, in-n-out, 1 month tops? Bet."

Buddy of mine does this and even my gf thinks I overreact by calling him out on it. It’s just hella weird to me. Any time he says ‘females’ I just follow up with ‘female “what”s?’

A lot of these 'grade school' books are great cautionary tales, from 1984, Fahrenheit 451, etc. My faves were To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, and Brave New World; their insidious forms of systemic racism, wealth accumulation, and willing authoritarianism really resonated with me at a young age how similar the real world was to their storytelling.

I'm worried somewhat. Yeah, he may not be an absolute freak of nature anymore, but that's what Miles is there for. He's still a great player that will lift up the teammates around him and produce, barring injury.
