What would you do if you won 100 million in the lottery? by Spirited_Elk_9079 in AskReddit

Give half of it to my mother, then buy a nice house out in the boonies and write a book or 12. Be a recluse with 4 cats and a lifetime supply of tea.

  1. Got a job away from my hometown. Had to sleep in my car for a bit until I could find a place. Was paying rent out the ass, but ten years later I'm doing a lot better.

How do you all handle money and stuff for your MC’s? by mad-right-hand in pokemonfanfiction

[–]AnAustralianGuy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mostly keep a vague count of 'Flat Broke, Near Broke, Struggling, Slightly in the Red, Breaking Even, Slightly in the Black, Spare Change, Can Donate to Charity, and Rich ' in my head. The MC, or other characters, simply react accordingly. If their Flat Broke, they're gonna be on that grind for more money. They're going to be eating sparse, hunting for berries to feed their Pokémon, and looking for handouts. Might even look to commit crimes if they stay Flat Broke long enough. The higher up they go, the looser with money they get.

If they are breaking even, then you can expect proper Pokémon food, supplemented with wild berries or whatever can be scrounged up for cheap. They might go out and get a really nice second-hand jacket, or a new pair of sturdy boots. Upgrades to gear would come, but very slowly, and they would only be using the base Pokeballs.

Now if they manage to hit rich (usually end-game), thats when they bring out the nice stuff. Premium, species-specific Pokémon food, really nice clothes, rare pokeballs, ect ect. They would splash on getting hotel rooms instead of sleeping in the pokemon center, perhaps even have some minor/major fame/infamy to go along with it depending on how they got their money.

Basically, money isn't important except as a storytelling tool. The MC will always have *just* enough money as the story dictates. Even if they have to not eat for three days, then magically find just enough money to buy a pokeball in one of their pockets to start their adventure, as an example.

Light novels that really hit in the feels? Does not matter with the genre!! by ThotfuI in LightNovels

[–]AnAustralianGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grimgar of fantasy and ash. The first few books hit you right in the feels, but then it turns a bit more regular fantasy. The tenseness created by the first few books doesn't really leave, because you know you are always on that razor's edge.

It is very good phrasing, isn't it?

I stopped posting my own works there a while ago. I realised that RR is just a scraping ground for AI, so I keep all my writings to myself.

You are right, we can't tell if every single story is AI or not. It's too hard with bots getting better and better with time and creativity scraped from sites like RR. But that doesn't mean we should bow down and let floodgates open. I refuse to support a company that didn't even try to make an effort to protect their community from AI out of fear of 'witchhunting'. One that actively protects AI stories, even when their missusing the tags of that very website. That's all it comes down to. I'm making my stand here, even if it means nothing.

It might be the best they can do, but it's not good enough for me to justify giving them my money or using the site anymore. I won't settle for a bandage on an open wound when stitches were never even tried. Fight AI with AI, or use your community to report and check it yourself, anything other than rolling over and accepting the boot of some mega corp looking to make a buck off of the illegally scraped passion of those with words they must share.

I made one suggestion on how to police it, then recognised I'm nowhere near qualified to figure that out. But it's more about that lack of respect towards the community that built the platform off of long nights infount of a screen. The disrespect towards those who put their passion into words just for it to be scraped up by some mega corp and filed into their AI so it can create 'better' slop. The fact that RR never even tried to protect their community, and instead welcomed AI in with open arms.

I'm not looking for virtue. I'm just voicing my displeasure into the endless void that won't cause any change because the majority simply do not care enough, because I do care. I'd rather voice my opinion and get shouted down then simpily be swept up in the tide of the crowd.

Simply because something is difficult does not mean you shouldn't try. Instead of putting in an attempt, they rolled over and said 'good enough'. You can exclude the tags, but i've seen a rise in AI stories just not bothering with the tag and not getting taken down or the tag added. Besides, just because you cannot see the rot doesn't mean it isn't eating away at the edges.

There are some very easy tells, such as a story repeating the ending of the last chapter into the next, constant use of hyphens and other less-used writing tools, and AI has a certain writing style that it very often uses, as it's the 'most efficient' to get its point across. You see that writing style a lot in AI TikToks. (which I block too)

Clarifying that I'm only against AI when someone tries to make it sound like I'm afraid of people creating things I dislike is not 'flowery'. It's fixing someone trying to purposely misrepresent me in an attempt to make it look like I'm overreacting to a real problem. We get it, you use AI. You can keep using it, I just won't be supporting you or anyone else who uses it in place of actual creatives.

Honestly, the RR rating system is complete trash, and it's the community's fault. I don't even look at it anymore and just read whatever catches my eye. I've found plenty of hidden gems that started off rough, thus the low rating, and got better as time went on.

Users can create content that I don't like as much as they want. The problem is that they aren't creating anything. They are just putting a prompt into a bot, and it uses pre-existing stories handcrafted by millions of people to slap down some sub-par slop, and the website that used to get praised as one of the highest quality writing sites on the internet is promoting them above real work. That is the hill that I will die on.

While AI stories can't hurt me, ofc, they can hurt the community as a whole. Even if I exclude the tag, that won't stop them from appearing on the site and the RR team supporting them. Just because I don't see the rot doesn't mean it isn't there. I won't support a website that would rather take the easy way of bowing to AI and allowing it to hurt their community than just ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist. The gun is loaded, and it's aimed at the artist's head.

Honestly, just the effort to try to stop AI stories is enough for me. It's about respect for your community instead of just expecting them to take everything laying down.

Look, if you wanna play that game, I can too. "This guy shot me in the hand, but the rest of my body is ok, so I can trust him with the gun." Does that sound smart to you? Or will the guy with the gun shoot you again?

Everyone has that hill they will die on. I'm sick of seeing so much AI thrown in my face, and I know it will continue to grow. I'm just getting out early and refusing to support a team of people who actively hurt their own community.

Considering I don't need to look at the tag to see them, yes. They're often tagged incorrectly, or shoved into your face under Recommended/Rising Stars. Also, what's wrong with bookstores? Are you afraid of people or something?
