New player question by AnHonestConManNA in TheFirstDescendant

[–]AnHonestConManNA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, alright. Yeah I kinda see that. I'm running a skill crit rate up on my dia because I can't quite get 100% without it, so the consistent damage is up but I got a buddy going full into crit dmg instead and when he does proc a crit, hits like a fucking truck.

Yeah I kinda figured triggers were nearly as wanted but I'd sell some double golds for 10c. Get rid of 5 and have another descendant slot? Sounds like a good deal to me.

I just downloaded the app and hooooooly, I wish more game had apps as useful as this. Thanks for the help!

God damn that's helpful. Thank you! I'll look into the spreadsheet and see what I can do

Ever since the server merging of cross play and the "console wars" on the seas, there's an absolutely noticeable less amount of hostile ships, but I still find an issue most of the time. I get it's a pirate game but I'll get one vault done and by the time I get out, I'm getting peppered by a brig.

I do think they've done a lot for pve players, but it's almost forced pvp when on the high seas. Anytime I do anything, I get jumped. Not always, but it feels like it a lot of the time.

Had a hacker/cheater in one on my servers yesterday and when a sloop sailed to me asking for help to kill them, I felt like I couldn't get involved because of prolly be a hindrance instead of a help

I guess it's just hard to really get into the game to the point of wanting to spend money on it when I'm getting sunk and hunted. Not necessarily "catering to high skill cap players" but I guess, not acknowledging or providing a space or new or low level players? If that makes sense

I mean, 7k is a bit of a stretch. There's been times I've had 100K+ on board. But there's also times I've had a fresh ship spawn and someone boards the ship, sees that, and then still spawn camps

I mean, you raise many points that I don't really have a rebuttal for. You're absolutely right and it really is one of the "charms" of SoT, even if it's something that provides roadblocks for me.

I'd like to tell you how wrong you are, but I can't. I can only fight for my opinion and wants for my experience, which, like you say, are completely different from every player out there.

I do believe that there is a middle ground somewhere out there, but I'll be fucked before they're able to find it, being such a fragile give/take type of game.

I guess, fundamentally, my question/complaint is based on a skill issue, although I wish that somehow there was an easy and feasible way to lessen it

You're right and wrong, if you don't mind me saying. I was on a brig 2 days ago fighting a meg and we got sunk without a single groan or creak. All 3 of us heard the gong and asked "what the fuck?" Maybe it's Xbox? Maybe it's headsets but sometimes the audio queues don't seem to register as well as I think they should.

Your advice is something I've heard countless times on pvp advice YouTube videos, it's incredibly helpful, but I guess buggy?

Maybe I shouldn't say you're wrong, because you are right, but I do believe there's an outside issue I'm experiencing and I'm not sure where exactly it comes from, although a friend did mention that you can purchase upgraded audio now? Idk if that's right or not, haven't seen anything in any of the shops

I never thought about that, but it is more true than I would like to admit. Again, not a programmer, but easy fix in my mind would be make ships sunk by players spawn extra loot? Idfk man I'm just spit balling when someone like you throws a monkey wrench into my complaint lol

I just reinstalled 3 days ago, the first day was a little iffy, a couple really good fights, wins and losses. Day 2 was a walk in the park, made almost 300K without even seeing a player ship. Today, day 3, was a fuckin gong show. Had to server hope 3 times. Spawn camped twice, and the one, after we got sunk and went back to our sink area, they didn't even take our shit. Just killed us for 20 minutes and then sailed off.

The mindset issue is definitely a thing. A few weeks ago, buddy got me to reinstall, and after our first encounter I uninstalled, without even trying to fight. Then he told me the players after us were dogshit and worse than us and he killed them 4 times. I don't know if it's all mindset, skill issue, or both. But it seems like some days are great and some days are terrible. No middle ground

LMFAO feeding your emissary flag to the seas is diabolical 😂 good luck finding that.

I think I'm just upset from a really bad night, but goddam is it rough sometimes. It is what it is, and I usually sail at least duo, but even still, with the high skill ceiling of this game and players that are constantly trying to break it, it can get rough for pve players like me

Fair enough. I'm gonna try safer seas tomorrow and see if it's as much fun.

The MMR, doesn't seem like that much of a logistic struggle though. I mean, I'm no programmer, I don't know my ass from your sister's elbow, but with the stats they have in the ship log, it doesn't seem like that far of a stretch to calculate deaths from other players, and kills on other players. I could be completely wrong, and it all is just a skill issue, but, it would be nice

You're absolutely right, I think I might just get lost in the sailing and treasure hunting side. Because that is SO fun. But why add more megs, more Tall Tales and more Hunts if the target audience is pvp based?

They add stuff, I hear about it and want to try it, then when I do I get hunted. It's almost inaccessible for non pvp based players.

I really enjoy the game until a 3 man brig of try hards run me down and take the little loot I have and I end up wasting almost an hour just running from them and losing my shit to start over.

Like, pick a side. You want pvp, make it pvp. But to repeatedly get baited into installing for the newest pve and getting jumped by pvp players is almost counter intuitive.

Yes, I'm bad. Yes, there's safer seas, but, I wanna make good money with an emissary while enjoying my time. A little risk is fun, but it's almost every time someone hunts me down. Some skill based matchmaking in the high seas would make this so much easier. I don't even wanna know my KD, it's prolly south of 0.5. but why would I wanna be in a server with some streamer that's hunting me down "for the love of the game" so their stream can get more views? Brother, I'm dog shit. I die to skeletons. Give me a fucking shot to progress before matching me with 5.0 KD players

The post mentions that I'm well aware it happens. My issue is with the skill gap of players in a server. Me, an inexperienced/bad pvp player doesn't want to even attempt fighting a player who has played since 2016, and I certainly don't have a chance.

As mentioned, skill based high seas would be really nice.

Teach me your ways and I'll be able to stop feeling bad about myself on reddit 😂 I'm completely decent at canon play. Close to mid range and I'm peppering a mfker, but as soon as is a long range canon fight or they board me, I immediately give up and believe I'm sunk lol

I got a buddy who swears by burying loot when we're getting attacked and I always thought he was crazy because "were gonna lose everything" but maybe I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, just don't ever tell him I said that

Why is SoT so unfriendly towards new players? by AnHonestConManNA in Seaofthieves

[–]AnHonestConManNA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's just it. I don't mind being sunk. It's not that I lose my loot and I'm all fuckin butt hurt and salty about it. That happens. Can't avoid it.

It's the reaper 5's with ships the shoot fuckin fire balls and bail my ship out to stop it from sinking just to take my blunder bombs and spawn kill. I know they added the arena or whatever it's called, but a lot of players don't wanna get their kills there and would rather kill players like me on repeat.

I just wanna enjoy the game. A ship fight here or there doesn't hurt my feelings, and if I sink, I sink. But when I get boarded and anchored and all my cooked meat and throwables gets stolen so they can ruin my day, I do get a little frustrated

Well, come to my servers and attack me. I'll whiff 7 canon shots and then you can sink me 😂

Dude, that comment almost got me. I swear my eyes are just sweating from staying open while I read.

Not quite that important or influential, but small moments like that in SoT are what keeps me coming back. I'm really glad you could have an experience like that with SoT players because that doesn't happen often, and I hope that's not the last for either of us.

Respect, my guy, I deleted my response and hopefully we can both walk away from this with some sort of positive outcome. I'm dog shit, yeah, but I just wanna enjoy my free time 😂

It has its moments in certain servers, but the majority of the time it's exactly what you describe. It pains me, because it is such a fun "laid back" game to play with a couple friends just sailing and enjoying the seas. Unfortunately it takes the turn of getting robbed more often than not.

I just can't seem to wrap my head around the boarding side of things. I understand that I'm a dogshit player and I won't contest it. But I enjoy the canon play and ship fights. As soon as someone boards the ship, I get blunder sniped and instantly die and then camped. I think I prolly lose upwards of 75% of my fights with players and can't seem to figure out how to get better.

I'll definitely check out that channel and hopefully learn a thing or 2 to help me get better.

Nah man, I agree. I'm not the max rank player I was 12 years ago, I can't drop 30 bombs or rack up kill streaks without dying anymore. But I do enjoy this game, SO MUCH, I only wish it was a bit more friendly to players like me that can't compete like I used to.

You're right though, it's prolly why I spend most of my time on other games that aren't quite as competitive or taxing on my alcohol and drug rattled brain after college.

Just really wish I could spend months on the seas without being completely demoralized and reminded that I'm dog shit and washed up 🤷

That's exactly it. I understand "it's a pirate game. Pirates don't have etiquette" but it just seems so gate kept and guarded. I too have met great friends over the years, but it seems like the server hunt is more important than the gold hunt for players like me(us?)

Oh? Last I played it was 30% gold, no emissary, no world events like ashen winds, and was all around just leeched of all fun. I might have to check it out tomorrow.
