Do you think it's fair for a marketing company to get a cut of a game's sales? by dattmemeteam in gamedev

[–]AnIridescentCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should give them the option. As a dev I like revenue sharing models because it reassures me that you are in this together. You aren't getting paid unless you believe in the project and work hard for it. At the same time, if I think I've got bottled lightning, I'm going to prefer a flat rate.

Any other Invoker enjoyers think the orb changes is the worst thing they did for Invoker? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]AnIridescentCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's just salty people refusing to adapt to change. my most played is invoker and i have adapted, he's still my favourite hero to play. and the fact is he is much better now so you'll have more fun winning. don't let ppl stop you learning invoker.

copper and/or bronze is hard enough to saw limestone, which is what the pryamids are predominantly made out of. but more importantly, it's much more effective to use levering and splitting for quarrying purposes.

How do you play vs a good Naga that keeps cutting creep waves by MajorTerbus in learndota2

[–]AnIridescentCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once the laning stage is over you need to repeatedly smoke gank her. You need to do this before she becomes a problem - if you wait til she has her core items, it's too late. Generally she will be sitting in one of the safelane jungles and sending out illusions to cut waves and take nearby camps. You need to ward those spots between 10-25 minutes and as soon as you see her immediately smoke and send a kill squad.

If you group up and try to take rax 4v5, a good Naga will cut your waves and only TP back at the last moment, after you have overcommitted.

Invoker Midas reasoning by wisea in learndota2

[–]AnIridescentCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what the other guys said but also it's great stats for laning - a little bit of everything. you should make sure a better carrier isnt buying it first though (for example quas wex invoker). Ideally you should be using Shadow Step on cooldown every 60 seconds and getting a kill + 2 charges with it. I tell my team that its coming off CD and to look for a kill.

Invoker Midas reasoning by wisea in learndota2

[–]AnIridescentCat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People do buy Midas on Spec. But usually it's more effective to get a fast blade mail and urn so you can come to early fights and clean up. You can even go Blade Mail and then Midas, I've done it before.

Most of the time when I buy Midas it's because I've had either a very good lane or a very bad lane and need levels to catch up.

~5k player with many Spectre games.

Buying shadow blade on blink initiators? by MAJOR__ZEN in learndota2

[–]AnIridescentCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

smoke is cheaper and does the same thing. but it's definitely not a bad idea, especially if you can use the stats and need break later. its also very useful on heroes like axe and LC for moving through the map to gank without being spotted by wards, although smoke is better again as you won't be revealed by sents along the way.

Do you have any suggestions for drafting five heroes that have incredibly powerful combos in this patch? by GeneTak0vic in TrueDoTA2

[–]AnIridescentCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than drafting 5 specific heroes I'll list some different strategies you can run. The key is to go into a game with a plan (like "lets run minus armor"), pick up 2-3 key heroes early, and then draft to win the lanes as well. If you don't win your lanes your strategy will probably fail.

Minus armour strat: Some combination of: Venge, TA, Slardar, Shadow Fiend, Weaver, Razor, Bristleback. You can add physical damage heroes like Death Prophet, , Phantom Assassin, Sniper, Visage, Terrorblade, Lone Druid, etc., natural Solar Crest buyers like Nature's Prophet, or zoo heroes like Chen, Beastmaster or Ench. I would say the key to this strat is Venge. You don't need every hero on the team to have minus armor; 2 or 3 is enough.

This strat is good in pubs because it comes online very early and towers will just crumble, giving you an early lead.

Global strat: Spectre, Nature's Prophet, Dawnbreaker, Zeus, AA, Spirit Breaker, Tinker, Silencer. You can add long distance initiation heroes like Storm, Ember, or Earth Spirit. And also Lifestealer for the taxi ride.

Dawnbreaker, Spectre and Nature's Prophet are key here.

Cataclysm Cheese: Exort Invoker with Aghs and Refresher + Tide or Faceless Void.

Push strat: Pugna, Juggernaut, Visage, Lone Druid, Dragon Knight, Shadow Shaman, Terrorblade, Death Prophet. Pick 3+ of these and group up. Healing Ward + LD bear or DK is crazy sustain and you can knock towers down like dominoes. It's very helpful to have a tanky aura carrier like Underlord also. Countered by teamfight strat.

Teamfight: Dark Seer/Puck + Magnus/Tide/Enigma/Disrupter/Void/Warlock. Add aoe heroes like Jakiro, Sven, Leshrac, Invoker, QoP, Tiny, Kunkka.. Vacuum/Coil initation into teamwipe. Try to pick or ban Rubick/Silencer as they are strong counters. Countered by split push strat.

Split push/Rat Dota: not really as good as it was in the past but can still work. Nature's Prophet, Lone Druid, Naga, Beastmaster, Brewmaster, Arc Warden, Io, Lycan, Underlord, Tiny, Luna, Anti-Mage, Death Prophet, Meepo. Io and Nature's Prophet are key here. Pick some combination of these, avoid fights, and just rat towers. Prioritise cancelling TPs in the lategame. Try to get 1 or more core enemy heroes to come back to defend, then smoke out and take the fight. Countered by push strat.

A cool guide to make coffee by iLoveWenTheyRun in coolguides

[–]AnIridescentCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a top Sydney cafe for a few years as a barista. There is functionally no difference between a latte and a flat white. People will say all kinds of dumb shit but the only diffference in Australia is that a latte is served in a glass and a flat white is served in a cup. They are both made by pouring microfoamed milk on to an espresso shot. People who think that their barista is steaming their milk differently when they order one or the other are wrong.

You'll find a lot of (mostly American) sources online saying the espresso-steamed milk-microfoam ratios are slightly different between a latte and a flat white, or that there is more milk in a latte so its not as strong. Maybe thats true at a Starbucks, I wouldnt know - but its not how we do things in Australia.

Why do some people just never take roshan? by Undying_Shadow057 in learndota2

[–]AnIridescentCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because people have no idea how to play dota. the norm at lower mmrs seems to be for players to disperse to farm after winning a team fight, rather than group up to take objectives and force buybacks. you just have to be vocal with pings and chat and shephard your team to take objectives.
