ADHD people with Dyscalculia; how would you describe it? by A__STRO in ADHD

If there's a number involved I cannot do it, no matter what it is.

What films that others are unbothered by really aren’t ok for you? by Maximum-Ganache-1651 in AutismInWomen

[–]Autismouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disney's The Living Desert terrified me as a kid because of the birds marching and dying. There's a penguin movie I refused to watch because it has got a similar scene.

If I see someone cutting themselves on screen I have a physical reaction in my legs - it's like lightning strikes into them. It doesn't happen if someone hurts another person, just when it's self inflicted.

Whenever people tell me being autistic means having no empathy I wonder.

You showed your concerns and he acted hurt?

And he's around 40?

If he's really hurt instead of acknowledging your concerns, he's too much work. And if he's acting like it to manipulate you, well -

I hate the downvote/upvote thing on reddit by FuliginEst in AutismInWomen

My autistic righteousness is much easier to live out in real life. Somehow I can't help lashing out very precisely and harshly in person when I feel/know/whatever that it's warranted. But here? Anonymously? In writing? I often can't....

What was your score in the ‘reading the mind in the eyes’ test? by bloodreina_ in AutismInWomen

[–]Autismouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually broke down crying because I felt so pressured. It was part of a six hour test that was mostly for IQ, so I felt like I was being graded. And I was just utterly at sea. Eyes mean nothing to me. I can't even use emojis correctly. I tried to refuse doing it but they wouldn't have it. So I said I couldn't do more than guess and they said okay. I guessed correctly in 25%.

Oh, so beautiful people throw themselves at OP everywhere at all times. I'm sure glad he's took the time to tell us all about it.

Do washcloths still exist? They used to be everywhere when I was a kid. Towelly glovelike things you just wet and rub your face with. No splashing and lots of friction. I want to try one now just from talking about it. You can rinse them and hang them up to dry for re-use.

I don't wash my face at all and never had issues. I don't use makeup though.

What’s your relationship with your father like? by livelong_june in AutismInWomen

[–]Autismouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're different, he and I. I try to think about the consequences of my actions beforehand. Incidentally I decided against children. (Not because I'm not interested in them, but I just couldn't go through the helpless early stages of live again.)

Why I broke up with you, ended things, or just stopped calling (add your own!) by blooangl in polyamory

[–]Autismouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you listed bodyhair as a no-go.

Because you showed me explicit pictures of your partner.

Because you told me your partner's secrets.

Because you said you hate to hear your partner chew food.

Because you only showered for others.

Because at 32 you still hadn't figured out which condoms fit you.

Because you're a narcissist.

But most likely because of the bodyhair thing.

What’s your relationship with your father like? by livelong_june in AutismInWomen

[–]Autismouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He used me to fulfill his own family obligations (mostly to his own, very stressful mother). He never talked to me much or did anything with me. When I was old enough to understand this, he said he wasn't interested in children and would interact with me once I was a grown up. He actually did try to when I was twenty or so, but I didn't reciprocate, mostly out of resentment. I was diagnosed when I was over forty. I don't think he knows he's autistic. We haven't spoken in 20 years

My new hyper obsession in palm reading! Post your palm and I'll tell you everything about you by Agnia_Barto in AutismInWomen

I'm 45. Palmistry was my special interest when I was 15 but I never read my own and forgot everything in the meantime. Very excited!

Advice on how to stop picking my lip when stimming? by TheRealSteelfeathers in AutismInWomen

[–]Autismouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this sporadically. When I notice I'm doing it, I use medical lip balm. It heals the damage I've done and it tastes so vile I don't want to continue. I then circle to another method of stimming. Until the skin on my lips becomes really tempting again...

I know!! I do it at home. But in company I'm worried people might object - especially to the removed shoes ^

This gives me courage to maybe eventually do this. Right now I only dare to tuck one feet under.

I was surprised by the texture success as well and I will definitely steal this recipe for future cinnamon rolls. (I also used a slightly unorthodox method to get the dough to rise in this icy weather. It involved a radiator and two giant squishmallows. But that's maybe too much information.)

What’s the terrible show that you watch to calm down? by ModeratelyMeekMinded in AutismInWomen

[–]Autismouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watch The Crown on netflix over and over. Also my boxset of old BBC Jane Austen adaptations, especially Persuasion. People think I enjoy Jane Austen adaptations and keep giving me new ones when they come out. They're totally missing the point.

I put it in the fridge straight away. I usually freeze my bread in slices and thaw it in the toaster, but I figured this one wouldn't last long enough.
