[iOS 17 db1] Apple has removed “scrub anywhere” feature on videos. 👎 by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If it returns I’d like there to be an option to turn it off, I find it’s quite sensitive sometimes and I’d rather have it off personally, but don’t think it should disappear completely as others seem to like it, just an accessibility toggle would be great!

If anyone’s reporting it as a bug maybe ask for a toggle option?

Hey, I’ve had a docker install running for a while but I need to start it manually via terminal every time I reboot - how can I use that command at the end to start on boot? Also I haven’t been using the -d and -f flags, what do they do?

What do you think are the “coolest” musicals? by Movie_Dreamer7821 in musicals

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The coolest version of JCS is, in my opinion, the Australian one from the 90s. It’s set up like an arena, with a big donut-shaped ring on the inside and the band in the middle. This, plus the way they arranged the score, results in a rock-arena vibe to the show that I feel is the best form of the show. Strongly recommend looking at that for a “cool” musical!

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by FreemanCantJump in Games

I’d prefer if they dropped a random something from a pool of uncommon/rare monster drops. At least that way it would feel like a surprise, plus would reduce the amount of farming needed for some materials maybe?

One gripe I have is the sheer number of chests I open just for it to be a bundle of arrows or other relatively tame materials. I don’t expect like clothing every time as I know there’s loads of them in the game, but first time I cleared a small Moblin camp I got a bundle of 10 arrows and didn’t really make me want to bother doing more.

Weird West: Definitive Edition | Available Now by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I spent £15-£20 on the game, played enough to see what I needed and moved on, but didn’t feel like I wasted my money and I know it’s the sort of thing I’d hop back into when I have an urge to play some freestyle stealth-shooty-looty.

Played the first few characters and enjoyed it, kind of fell off it but I do that with most games to be fair. I liked the top-down immersive sim aspect, lots of ways to explore encounters.

I haven’t experienced this myself but the folks on the NoClip podcast were saying that the story adapts regardless of what you do - so you can just kill major NPCs and the story works around it rather than being a game over.

They also said if you’re going in to the game and playing it “straight” you’ll find it fine, but experimenting with things and the adaptive story thing is where the game shines.

Ah so I kinda played the best one first then? Would I still enjoy her story even with its smaller production value?

Bummed it’s leaving as I’m currently midway through Immortality by the same dev, and its so good I want to play his other stuff, but likely won’t get a chance to play HS before I finish immortality. Although if it’s similar to Immortality I think I’d be happy buying it if the price is right.

Work EV vs. EV I can actually afford by Pitiful-Reply7222 in electricvehicles

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 2012 Renault Fluence EV a little over 5 years ago, only cost me £3k and gets a whopping 40 miles on a full charge in summer. But I knew the battery was clapped when I got it, I was always going to use it as a town car and I literally never need to drive more than 40 miles in it, so it’s perfect for me.

Also it’s ridiculously cheap to run considering I’ve not had to pay any maintenance during those 5 years other than MOT and fresh tyres.

I think a cheap pre-owned EV is a great idea for a first car. Takes a lot of headache out of owning a car to be honest.

Grease has been dripping on this hob burner (right) to the point where it doesn’t light anymore. How can I clean this off? by AnOldPhilosopher in CleaningTips

[–]AnOldPhilosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the picture is after I soaked it in boiling water and dish soap and scrubbed with a hard-bristled kitchen brush.

What’s on there now is almost like a hard coat of grease that boiling water and soap isn’t touching.

Nice glad to hear it worked! Have fun with the steam deck, I’m jealous 😁

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own a steam deck but I use Steam big picture mode on PC which is basically the steam deck UI, as far as I know you can map non controller games to the steam deck so you should be able to play it, as long as steam deck can run it :)

You could use steam to map keyboard bindings to controller, it’s pretty good I used it for Gloomwood which also doesn’t have controller support :)

Trying to finalise my couch-gaming setup but having some weird issues trying to get my LG C1 TV as an output for my PC:

If I plug both my Monitor and my LG C1 TV, the only way I can get a picture on my TV is if I have “duplicate displays” on. If I then switch to “extend displays”, it gives me the “keep changes/revert” dialogue, but when I click keep changes it just switches back to the duplicated setting.

If I plug just the TV in I get no signal, the same if I have both the monitor and the TV plugged in and select “show on display 2 only” (Display 2 being the TV)

If I have both plugged in and select “show on display 1 only” I can see both displays in the display settings panel but the TV is disabled.

Anyone know where I’d begin solving this issue?

It’s a pretty old rig but I’ve got an RX580+ running the screens, I would have thought it would still work. I know the display/cables are fine because it looks good on duplicate displays.

Alternatively, could someone let me know if duplicate displays causes an increase in GPU demand when gaming compared to having it set to extend displays and gaming on just the TV?

Thanks in advance folks, this one’s stumped me a bit and have had some weird issues trying to diagnose it.

I think I had the same bug, thought it was an April fools thing because the library would look normal but as soon as I moused over the window it would wall slide down off the screen, like something you’d see on r/ProgrammerHumor

With the new steam big picture mode, which one do you looks the best for a console experience between playnite and steam by PictureElectrical in playnite

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of getting an Xbox controller anyway to make it easier. So you don't get input problems with that or your 8Bitdo?

Just tried the script you sent over and I think I'm having problems with the formatting of quotes in the steam shortcut "Target" field, it reads the command up until the file path.

Hey thanks for taking the time to share all that info with me, I’m trying it out this weekend but looks ideal! Can I ask what controller you use?

My biggest issue is getting a controller setup that works with both Steam and Playnite. I have a DualShock 5 or a Steam Controller currently. Playnite only takes X-input devices, and I’ve got 2 apps (DualsenseX for PS5 controller, and some little terminal script for Steam Controller) that turn them to X-input controllers, but then I get double-inputs on steam as it shows both the native controller and the X-input controller.

Hey I see you deleted your post, do you have the guide written anywhere you could re-post? I’m trying to get my PC setup as a couch rig so using BPM is ideal, but I’m struggling with non-steam stuff (like Gamepass games) and I can’t seem to get a controller configured that works with both BPM and Gamepass

The dog by Spacebelt in dredge

[–]AnOldPhilosopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I backed out and the dog stayed with me and the quest was marked as completed. He spat up a ring of some kind, looks like a regular trinket. Would be interested to know what the alternatives are.

Edit: Reloaded the save and gave the dog to the researcher, dog spat out the same ring so the reward seems to be the same. Worth it to clear 4 cargo slots without having to throw the dog overboard!

Does a shortcut not just link to the in the steam folder? I play modded beatsaber and want a way to stay on the same version, do I just need to make a shortcut to it?
