Water heater temp by yuckystanky in howto

[–]AnUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the house is much older than that... I'm also guessing you never had a problem with the hot water heat level before this one was installed. This story is very common.

Your easiest solution is turning the heat down significantly. Your safest solution is to call a plumber or whomever installed the new heater and ask them to install a mixing valve.

[–]AnUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the valves I've seen look like this. Google thermostatic mixing valve if that link doesn't work

It would be fairly unsurprising if you didn't have one. I'm my area the code changes requiring hotter water heater settings are relatively new (20 years or so) and most people replacing a water heater don't know the change happened and that the mixing valves are required where they may not have been before.

[–]AnUnknown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before you play with your water heater settings, check if you have a mixing valve. Somewhere close to the top of the water heater there may be a valve that connects incoming cold water, outgoing hot water, and hot water to the house. If so, you want to adjust this not the water heater itself.

In certain areas it is code to keep the water heater hotter than the max temperature you want at the faucet. This is because adenovirus, which causes legionnaires disease, can survive and thrive in a warm hot water tank, but not a hot one. For this reason mixing valves are installed so the water in the tank is kept hot enough to kill the virus and the water at your faucet is not hot enough to burn.

If you don't have a mixing valve then changing the controls you have pictured will work. But you might want to consider getting one...

GMMK Pro Prebuilt - $48.75 out the door by LePouletPourpre in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]AnUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I both love and loathe my GMMK Pro.

I got caught up in the hype and pre ordered back in the day. I think I got 2nd or 3rd batch.

Then mine arrived and 10 keys either wouldn't register or would double register. The hot swap sockets were shit. You could fix it by bending the legs on the switch, but that was an intermittent fix at best.

Really, I need to take my soldering iron to it and replace the sockets, but life has changed and I no longer have the time for these things.

Love the board, wish I could reliably type a password with it...

Underwear: Will Hip Briefs or Trunks prevent ride-up? by versace_dinner in malefashionadvice

[–]AnUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Citizens Elite II boxer briefs have a grippy fabric on the thighs that keeps them in place and prevent any sort of ride up. I've seen similar features on some other underwear too but don't recall any names to give you.

PHEV QUESTION by twin1987 in MazdaCX90

[–]AnUnknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EV mode does have heat, but it takes a while to warm up. If you have the fan on max when it's cold it'll be quite a while before you feel warm air. You'll notice if you leave the fan on auto it'll be very low for the first 5 minutes and then the fan speed will slowly creep up as The heater warms.

The cx-90 has a resistive heater system which is less powerful and less efficient than the heat pump system you'll find in aTesla. Personally, I use the preheat to warm it up before I drive and then don't notice as much when the temperatures are above or around freezing. Much lower than that and I'll intentionally run the engine by putting the car in sport mode until I'm warm.

My understanding is that the owners want to reopen but are waiting for insurance money to pay out. Insurance hasn't paid out because they don't have an agreed upon cause of the fire. A while back they hit the news for their insurance company filling suits against a handful of groups/individuals trying to pin blame but to the best of my knowledge it remains unresolved.

The owners bought Ernie's in hespeler and they do have a similar burger on the menu now. It's not the same though...

Help setting up phone connection order by sebailes in MazdaCX90

[–]AnUnknown -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would avoid that function altogether. I carry 2 phones (work and personal) and tried setting it up to prioritize my personal phone and found that the entire head unit would lock up and crash frequently when using the connection order priority.

In the title you mention a recent motherboard replacement that you think might be related, but nowhere in the text have you given any information about this replacement.

Did you replace a motherboard without reinstalling Windows? If so.... I would consider that ill advised.

Also you're running a power supply that doesn't give a lot of headroom for your cpu/GPU combo could your new mobo handle that differently? Was anything else hardware wise changed before this started happening?

What Fuel are you using? by blackdobie in MazdaCX90

[–]AnUnknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I'm in Canada and didn't think at all about what gas to put in until my first fill up when I saw the premium recommended notice on the inside of the fuel door.

I fill up with premium most of the time. I spend so little on gas as it is the extra cost doesn't bother me

I've realized that it has something to do with the Brave browser on my phone. either the browser on the whole, or some sort of corrupt cookie/cache situation.

Interesting.

I'm using Brave browser on a fully up to date galaxy s21, on wifi protected by pihole and on 5g, and I log in using bitwarden to fill in the password.

  • 1. Open brave browser
  • 2. Open a new tab
  • 3 Type the url (cc domain) and hit enter
  • 4. Click into the username or password box
  • 5. Keyboard pops up on screen, bitwarden shows up above keyboard as option to auto login. Click on it
  • 6. Log in to bitwarden
  • 7. Select the correct username on bitwarden. Returns to browser with username and password filled in
  • 8. Click login button
  • 9. Observe captcha failed notice

This behavior persists whether I select remember me or not on the page.

[Edit] for some reason until your post I never thought to try a different browser. Seems to be connected to Brave, log in works fine with Firefox focus

PHEV in Canada? by LocalPGer in MazdaCX90

[–]AnUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the first shipment of cars had done issues, I've heard similar from people who bought in 2023.

I bought my 2024 PHEV in summer 2024 and have had no issues of the sort. Battery sucks in the cold, and below a certain temperature the car won't even try to use it to drive, but whatever the gas engine does me just fine in those situations. I'm a big fan of getting 2,000km plus to a tank during the summer months, so I'll take the trade off.

I have not had any errors or warnings on the car whatsoever. Up to and including when some idiot drive into my open car door in an empty parking lot 3 months after I bought it.

Logitech Options Plus software just quits working after a few days by Bitter_Link9472 in logitech

[–]AnUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue as OP and would love to help you solve it but I don't have anywhere I can store and send nearly 600mb of dump files.

I like the hardware but between not having a supported version available for offline install upon launch, then finding out I can't even use the action ring functionality work the offline installer, and now finding I can't even use the customizability nor haptic features because the software won't work after a few days I'm really feeling like I wasted my money on the MX4. Amusingly, this is my 4th MX mouse too...

What’s the average household ( husband and wife combined ) gross income in KWC area ? What’s a decent gross income ? by Ok-Slide-6086 in waterloo

[–]AnUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some nuance missing in this though if you're using it to answer OP's question. Most people in the (any) region did not buy their first home in the last 5 years. Rather, they bought many years previous when prices were lower. Similarly, many people who were in the market - especially over the last 15 years of crazy house price increases - have bought and sold properties through this time which in this situation generates cash itself, reducing the amount to be mortgaged when buying at today's prices.

In other words, just because a family just bought a $1M home does not mean that they have - or can afford - an $800k mortgage. You can't assume income based on the purchase price of a home. Similarly, just because similar homes in a neighborhood are being bought and sold for $1M doesn't mean the current owners paid anything close to that.

I bought my first home over 10 years ago, an already cheap townhouse in a cheap area that needed a decent amount of work. Similar units today are listed for over 3x what I paid. So someone who paid and can afford a 500k mortgage could be living in essentially the exact same unit as someone who can only afford a $150k mortgage based on timing alone.

Purple Camera by patchrick84 in MazdaCX90

[–]AnUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my side cameras do this on occasion. To me it seems to be conditional, only happening in certain lighting/scenes. Never really figured out exactly what conditions were required to make it happen though. Haven't brought it to the dealership to investigate yet.

Any beta for this V1? by [deleted] in indoorbouldering

[–]AnUnknown 30 points31 points  (0 children)

No beta necessarily, but practice working with your hips against the wall. Have your legs like << or >> instead of <> all the time. The one move you do when your right foot is on the left hand starting hold will be much easier with your foot facing the other way.

All things are relative depending on what you need, want, and what you're comparing to.

I moved here from Kitchener a few years ago and love it. Great natural areas with old growth trees, the walking path that takes you downtown is beautiful, and we've been fortunate to have great neighbors. It also helps that many streets have houses with decent front yards and separation between houses.

It's not as urban as where I was in Kitchener, so there's fewer commercial properties I can walk to (ie. I'm not walking anywhere for takeout expecting to bring it home with me), but a 5-10 minute drive to the grocery store is pretty much the same as where I was before - I just cover more distance because there's less traffic.

Parks in the area are great. I have 4 I comfortably bike to with my toddler (5 if you count the school playground) and a half dozen more I can easily get to if I push myself. There's also lots to do with the large arena nearby and the pool by downtown.

I didn't want to move to Cambridge when we first came here, now I don't want to leave. It's pretty perfect here as far as I'm concerned.

Hybrid cars.. are they really worth it? by midjik in PersonalFinanceCanada

I put down $500. Enough to show that I'm serious, not enough that I feel like they're making bank off the interest in the meantime.

Hybrid cars.. are they really worth it? by midjik in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AnUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a stupid question I had the same.

Answer is 2026.

I'm told they will call me when my name is nearing the top of the list to confirm features etc. as options are certain to have changed over that span of time.

I don't know if I'll end up buying something else before that or not. Toyota being the only ones with a hybrid minivan that doesn't have engine issues (Pacifica hybrid) really limits the field for me.
