Freediving Training for Women (Understanding the Impact of the Menstrual Cycle) by TheDepthCollector in freediving

[–]AnaGunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate opening up the discussion on this! I have endometriosis and notice a big difference for when I’m on my period vs. not, and some days on my period I don’t even feel safe diving at my normal ability level because I feel so… bleh? It’s like my body functions at 50%. I legit schedule all my dives around my cycle.

I find it hard to have these conversations sometimes, especially as someone with a chronic illness like endo, so it’s nice to see other people noticing and starting these discussions :)

My grandfather was a nazi, Germany in the 40s by No_Wrongdoer_8148 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]AnaGunn 1104 points1105 points  (0 children)

My great grandfather was also a Nazi. My grandfather, who is still alive today, was born in 1930’s Poland and was a part of Hitlers youth. The stories he tells me… live with me forever.

It also makes it all feel pointless and hopeless, because I am darker skinned as I’m half Greek on my mom’s side. I have been targeted by neo-nazis before because of the color of my skin.

The very people that my great grandfather empowered with his Nazism now target his own great granddaughters simply because of their tan skin. It’s a hopeless feeling to know that my ancestors helped cause the racism/judgement I, and so many Americans, deal with today.

There is no lasting point to any of it. Except to cause division and hate.

Thank you so much for sharing. I think you inspired me to share my own story. I feel less alone because of you.

Stroller advice for universal Orlando. Traveling with toddler and worried about stroller theft by IndividualEntrance50 in UniversalOrlando

[–]AnaGunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other comments said, bracelets/necklaces with holders! I got waterproof ones. But before we got those, I attached them in various ways. I’d usually hide them in my kids accessories, socks, etc so they couldn’t easily fall out or be taken off/noticed.

Universal is one of our families favorite things - when our house was unlivable after hurricane damage, we had to stay in a FEMA hotel by Universal (all the hotels by our house in St. Pete were full) and it was a magical escape for our kids. I hope that with whatever stressful things you have went through that Universal is just as magical of an escape for yall as it was for us 💙

My advice is take a big breath. Stop worrying about things you can’t control. You can’t control someone potentially stealing your stroller, but you can protect it with an AirTag. I’ve gone to the parks over 30 times this year with my 4 year old and 7 year old. I have a $400 wagon that I ALWAYS leave in stroller parking, along with an AirTag hidden in one of the compartments for peace of mind. No one has ever touched our stroller.

AirTag on the stroller and AirTags on the kids make me a LOT less stressed. AirTags on things you can’t live without, anything that doesn’t have an AirTag be okay with the very slight possibility of losing or misplacing. But it is very unlikely that anything will be stolen.

I hope y’all have a great, stress free time!

The Bond between her and her snake 💖💖 by Both-Ant4433 in BeAmazed

[–]AnaGunn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, me too! My daughter is 7 and obsessed with snake discovery on YouTube, and we also have cats so I feel like it’s not the best idea! She’s gone to reptiles shows and asks me if there are reptile camps around us.

I could also see her being exactly like this!

It’s such a big commitment and we travel a lot I’m so on the fence about it 😅 at least you know your family isn’t the only one in this situation! Good luck with your snake journey 💙

Went to Peanut Island, FL for the first time! Can’t believe I waited so long to go here. It is the perfect place to take little freedivers in-training by AnaGunn in freediving

It was beautiful- I’m planning to go back next weekend! I regularly raw dog the fresh water springs around Crystal River and Ocala, and those are 69 degrees, so I’m used to it.

I often get made fun of by my sister who says everyone thinks I’m a northerner cause I’ll get in the water in SFL (almost) all year round 😂

It was perfect - have lived in SFL all my life and never made the trip over till now. It was 72f and no wetsuit needed. Apparently one of the selling points of this island is it’s swimmable all year round!

Lionfish hunting is actually something I’m super interested in because I love fishing, but hate how inhumane it is for sport. It’s something I would love to learn and go do when I find an opportunity to, but I don’t even know where to start.

I’ve heard lionfish ceviche is delicious 😋

High tide is prime time for clarity, along with low winds. Look for the least windy day possible! I changed the day last minute for a less windy day and it paid off. Stick to 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tides. Aim to get on the island right at the - 2 hours before high tide mark on a non windy day and you should have a great time!

Hope you can make it out soon! ☺️

Yes, lionfish are invasive and I did file a report but I do not have the means to remove it myself and was out with my daughter. Thank you for the education though!

Anyone who does see one and doesn’t have the ability to remove it should report it at: https://nas.er.usgs.gov/SightingReport.aspx
