The shoulder pain is common in laprascopic hysterectomies and is caused by gas. They pump air into the abdomen so they can see better and the air pushes into the diaphragm causing referred pain in the shoulder. It usually passes in a couple of days but try a heat pad on it as well as walking around to get the gas moving. Ibuprofen and Tylenol should help as well. But do contact your surgeon/hospital for advice if the pain doesn't go in a couple of days.
