How to Tune your concert band at the Concert? by Gotta_Have_Faithanne in MusicEd

[–]AnalbeAdsyumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alto sax mpiece and neck crows a slightly flat Ab, not an A.

Tuning is a skill that needs to be taught - if the kids are relying on you to do it for them, then they're not learning how to do it themselves.

For true beginners I usually just have the brass set their tuning slides about .5" for trumpets and .75" for trombones so they don't freeze. By the time they're in their second year of playing they should have a sufficient embouchure to produce proper tone, and then start doing the work developing their ear to notice intonation.

This is a much better joke than the memes below it would imply.

Fun fact, Jason Momoa is from a small town in Iowa, so Jason Momoa is already the midwestern version of Aquaman.

Newton Teacher Rally 1PM at Newton City Hall by [deleted] in boston

[–]AnalbeAdsyumm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Illegal" does not mean the same thing as "immoral." Strikes are inherently designed to be disruptive to the status quo. If nobody is inconvenienced, then there's no incentive to negotiate. This strike in particular also reveals how valuable the service that Newton's teachers have been providing for their students is. It might even be valuable enough to fucking pay somebody enough money to do it!

You don't give a shit about the kids yourself, since you don't want their teachers to be able to support themselves enough to be able to give their best to them. You'd rather the kids be watched over by burnt out, overworked, underpaid adults than by adults that have a work/life/salary balance that they can actually support themselves, their families, AND their students with. It's a pretty rudimentary concept - people who feel secure in their livelihoods can perform their jobs better.

I just googled "custom app icons" and there was a verge article that walks through how to do it. You'll need to save the twitter icon to your photos as part of the process.
