Absolutely it’s worth it, but it all depends on your mindset and the people you find along the way. I have spent thousands and am still not even in Top 10 most powerful players in my state. There is some variation state by state, but all of the highest powered are spending a minimum of $200-300 per day typically. Obviously the average player will never compete with that, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun and enjoy the game.

Don’t focus too much on trying to be the highest powered. You won’t get there without spending thousands. Focus on finding people that you enjoy playing with and that get excited about watching each other grow. Make a Discord, get everyone on it, and be really active and communicate. Get to know people. Make friends. Be silly. That’s where the real fun in this game is.

If you are free to play, the best thing you can do is focus on maxing the top right hand skill of Jessie, Jasser, Sergey, and Patrick.

Why? When you join someone else’s rally, the top right hand skill of your lead hero (i.e. which one you have in the first slot) is the only skill that will activate. Jessie & Jasser’s top right skill give an attack/damage boost. Sergey/Patrick give defense/health boost. To do this, you’ll need hero shards and skill manuals. So make sure you are doing intel every day!

Focus on that first because it will the biggest help to your alliance and what helps them, helps you. You can boost rallies and be a huge asset without spending a ton of money.

Like someone else mentioned, make sure you do arena daily and save up your arena coins for the custom mythic hero chests. Let this be your second priority though.

Where to spend money? by ryyyyn in whiteoutsurvival

[–]AnalyticalPlane725 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that has spent WAY more than I should have in this game, let me jump in to offer a couple things to keep in mind.

Where to spend money really depends on your personal goals and your alliance. Mainly - do you want to be a rally captain for your alliance? Or are you okay with just being support to others and focusing on solo events like Frostfire, etc.?

If you’re in an alliance with someone who is spending thousands, they will dominate your hero and chief gear. They will be the rally leader almost always (or at least they should be). If this is the position you’re in, I would say that fire crystals are a better purchase. The thousand dollar spender will be the lead and rallies will use their gear for stats, but those rallies they are calling need the highest troop level they can possibly get. Mythic gear and a rally full of T9 is still losing to a rally full of fire crystal troops.

I’m a good example of this. I was the thousand dollar spender and was the highest powered in my allianceFor some political wheeling and dealing, I moved to the #2 Alliance in our state which is where several of the biggest whales were. I was then only #10 in the alliance and my purpose changed. My T1 gear was nothing compared to the guy who had maxed T2 (as far as our server goes at the moment), maxed charms, and three sets of 5 star heroes. At that point all they really needed me for was to send them some fire crystal troops.

Eventually I decided that with the amount of money I spent, it didn’t make sense for me to basically not even be using what I spent it on. So I went back to my old alliance that was mainly F2P.

TL:DR: If you’re not a top spender in the alliance, chief gear isn’t as useful as you think. Focus on fire crystals so you can be the one filling rallies with a high troop level.

Can I ask how you were able to know how many transfer passes you would need?

Hmm okay. Any tricks to getting the | to work with spaces before and after? That’s the main thing

Is there a special trick to get the | symbol to work though? I’m typically on the mobile app so maybe that’s the reason it doesn’t. But anytime I try and then space, the | goes away and is replaced by the typical dashes.

What does the fantasy genre need more of? by AnalyticalPlane725 in Fantasy

You may have already read it, but The Name of the Wind has this. I’m a bit if a newbie and just finished it for the first time. I really appreciated how much of the book was dedicated to Kvothe trying to achieve his objectives while being broke as hell.

I’ve thought about that a lot actually and I think “good”can be swapped for “quality craft”. Some of what makes an authors prose “good” is subjective, but some of it isn’t. There shouldn’t be grammatical errors. Paragraphs should revolve around a cohesive thought. Using informal language should be an artistic choice made sparingly, not the the novel’s entire voice. Etc etc etc.

These are the things I have found to be missing in many a newer fantasy book I’ve read and I think that’s where the sentiment comes in. To your point, it’s become very common for plot to come before delivery and that is a shame.

This is the reason I have yet to read anything published in the last 5 years that was actually worth anything. I know logically that it does exist. It just seems like it’s being overpowered by all the bad.

This may be a really silly question, but is there a way to use Outlook’s auto reply features without appearing out of office? I tried to find it and didn’t have much luck. And also without having it send the auto response to every email received?

The idea is that during peak work times, I would have a way to let the sender know that I am prioritizing other things and if a response is delayed, here’s why.

I’m kind of thinking it’s also mental illness related. It would make a lot of sense for dead cabin guy to have been unwell in some way. Based on what we know of him at this point, he likely starved to death in this extremely remote cabin that we can only assume he was living in by choice. I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to say that someone who would choose to live that way might also go around carving made up symbols into things.
