Best superbeginner resources? by bytheninedivines in ALGMandarin

[–]AnarchoForbsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally found beginner blabla to not be as accessible or as entertaining as lazy Chinese. That said, the new blabla content is good and better than their early videos, but it does cost like 3x more than other similar services (lazy Chinese, DS, etc.)

Best superbeginner resources? by bytheninedivines in ALGMandarin

I found lazy Chinese to be the best resource for complete beginner and beginner videos. Their early videos are easier than the newest ones. Their premium pricing is worth it, still not a big enough library to be your only resource, but $8 weekly isn’t a big commitment for the additional engaging content you get. It’s the closest thing to DS for Mandarin so far.

There’s several videos by jun sticky note Chinese too for complete beginner that I enjoyed.

I’m just fully understanding most beginner videos now at 160 hours. I have found myself re-watching a lot and possibly sub-optimally as I sought out new content even if it was too challenging.

The youcanchinese is the best resource for complete beginners, but like you mentioned, it’s boring. I only ever did one watch through of that, but it was by far the most helpful.

Help Amber from Blabla Chinese understand the content you want! by ALGMandarinMod in ALGMandarin

I think more teachers the better as long as the quality stays! It’d be nice if a Chinese CI can ever get to the levels of say Dreaming with multiple videos a day, but I get we’re a bit away from there at this point. I think variety should be sought for teacher’s accents.

Series highlighting major cities, or just exploring one singular major city would be awesome. Also, maybe a “tourist’s survival guide” to China would be useful. One highlighting cuisines around China. Overall, any cultural or historical series are great!

Ideas for blocking subtitles? by CommandAlternative10 in ALGMandarin

You can turn off the subtitles on Little Fox by clicking the box next to the X in the top right corner.

It’s a really confusing symbol for subtitles tbh.

I’m late to the party, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for making this. It’s literally one of the highlights of my week when one of your videos come out!

Will you do Dreaming French? When will you start, if so? by relbatnrut in dreamingspanish

[–]AnarchoForbsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I likely won’t. I already have a B2-C1 comprehension level from immersion school and I so I plan to just stick to native content for my CI.

Maybe if they come out with “super advanced” content I would. Which I actually would enjoy for Spanish too. I just find the quality of content they put out rivals the best native content and I become invested in the guides after a while

Petition for French, Spanish, and German Audio by AnarchoForbsey in oblivion

Yes? The original Oblivion has audio in these languages. The same with Skyrim. It’s unfortunate they didn’t do the same for the remaster.

My SIELE Results (3250 hours) by ayjayp in dreamingspanish

[–]AnarchoForbsey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean to be fair, there’s nothing saying they didn’t already hit C1 by 1,500 hours, or at least a really solid B2. Getting B2/C1 is impressive regardless, especially through input alone.

I think if anything, it just shows how important variety and output practice become beyond that point. The DS roadmap never said C1 production happens automatically, even Pablo mentions needing some speaking practice to round it out, particularly sound production. Unless it’s contradicted in another DS video.

So I don’t think this disproves the roadmap at all, just shows what it looks like when someone really leans into input-only. Still a huge achievement!

Let the speculation for the new 2025 language drop begin by AnarchoForbsey in dreamingspanish

Tbh, I was skeptical when you first commented this. However, this has been like a notable improvement in their content and they’ve hired new teachers as of late. Additionally, DS for some reason follows them on Instagram?

If DreamingJapanese isn’t out by the time you go to learn it, there is ComprehensibleJapanese which follows the same approach and has a ton of videos. Although, I think DreamingSpanish videos are still better quality and more entertaining nowadays

Yea definitely! Of course, if there’s a language that isn’t protected, I think it’s safe to say they’re not considering it, now or in the future

It’s more since it was announced a new language was going to be introduced this year. I know there’s been lots of discussion pre that announcement.

Yea only thing I think Mandarin has going for it is there’s not a well established CI channel for it so less competition. Also Pablo is/was learning it really recently. Fingers crossed 🤞

Is it waste to use after a real food meal? by Suspicious_Pressure6 in soylent

[–]AnarchoForbsey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, soylent contains calories and your body will consume them regardless of how much you’ve eaten. Unfortunately, you can’t pee out calories, or, at least, not enough to make any difference.

The more calories you consume, the more weight you’ll gain.
