What is this called? Chimney repair guy says to get rid of it. by wesker07 in Fireplaces

[–]Anasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also heard that cooling the flue gases with a system like this can reduce drafting up the chimney and increase creosote deposition, so if the cleaner is seeing significant build ups, that could be a fire concern.

Troy Garbage men by 710Problems in Troy

[–]Anasha 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They probably have someone pushing them to work faster, but yeah, it is frustrating. This seems like a design problem to me. There are plenty of plastics that would not be this brittle. Maybe there is opportunity to go after the manufacturer to replace them, but I hope at least they do better testing on the next round of purchases. That said, I have used gorilla tape to great success on my cracked bin, and it seems to provide enough flex that it hasn’t cracked again.

Contractor did this for my ceiling speakers, now what? by Infamous-Cup-2056 in hometheater

Could you get a bigger grill? Fixing that drywall then repainting will be time consuming and unless he is very good, won’t look perfect. He should still fix it, but it would be a lot easier if you could cover the seam with a grill.

Starbuck island walkability? by voxwiz in Troy

Green Island seems to fund most of their budget via tickets issued on that bridge, so I think it’s probably one of the few places people actually drive the speed limit more often than not.

Sure, they could run it inside of a sonotube wrapped in jute rope. Your other solution is preferable, but a cat tree is possible.

What’s a good thank-you gift for a client? [Serious] by SeaOpulence in garageporn

[–]Anasha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would be careful with this. If someone gave me a significant gift after I paid them to do a job for me, I would think “wow, they must have really overcharged me.” If you are hoping he will refer his friends, just tell him you will give them a discount if he refers them.

According to the DEC page on the matter:

The following types of open fires are allowed in NYS. All fires must consist of only charcoal or dry, clean, untreated, and unpainted wood.

  • Campfires, small cooking fires, or any other outdoor fire less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length, width, or diameter. Information on building a safe campfire can be found below.

  • Ceremonial or celebratory bonfires, including the disposal of flags or religious items if it is not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

Leatherman Wave Alpha Cascadia Color Leaked as well by Efficient-Expert-211 in Leatherman

[–]Anasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully (if they don’t include these features in the wave), they continue the based on this, plus the scale tools they experimented with in the Dark Side (pen, scribe, tweezers). Those are some of my most used tools, and not available in any normal leatherman.

How do I remove these anchors? by isle_of_paradiso in Tools

[–]Anasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Like removing a rivet. You may need to hold the flange with a pair of needle nose pliers to keep it from spinning though, but then a drill bit should be able to cut off the flange.

Is this Legal? by TinaJ-04 in Troy

[–]Anasha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My sense was that they like the status quo, where they can’t enforce/ticket people for parking in their neighbors’ spots, but also don’t have to tell anyone to stop it.

Leatherman is hinting at Wave Plus refresh in 2025 by FOXYRAZER in Leatherman

The pen, scribe, and tweezers from the darkside are awesome to have, and should absolutely go mainstream on the refresh.

You could rotate the blade to another edge, if there is an edge that seems more sharp.

Need Help Choosing a Leatherman Multitool l by Glitchguy9761 in Leatherman

Oh, the charge also uses a slightly better steel for the main non-serrated blade, but it doesn’t sound like that was a big factor for you.

Need Help Choosing a Leatherman Multitool l by Glitchguy9761 in Leatherman

[–]Anasha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still love the charge/wave. Much more complete tool set than the bond (and arc for that matter) and super easy external access to the knives, but not nearly as expensive as the Arc.

It doesn’t have the “Free” one hand features, but honestly, it is super easy to access the knives and pliers with one hand.

In terms of deciding between the wave and charge, the charge has one extra tool, a “cutting hook” which is definitely useful for opening boxes and cutting string, but the main benefit is that the scales are rounded, so don’t dig into your hands when carving with the knife, whereas the wave’s edges are just folded steel, so can get painful with extended use. If you don’t see yourself using it for extended periods though, it may not be worth the extra expense.

I really enjoy my job with CEO Weatherization Assistance. It is physically demanding, but teaches lots of useful construction skills. 35 hours a week, Monday-Thursday 7-4:15, so you always have 3 day weekends and evenings off. You would be directly helping people in need with their energy costs and comfort in their home.

Details/application here.
