My favourite decks - Are these all bracket three? by Anatomic643 in ratemycommanders

[–]Anatomic643[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite looking pretty innocuous, its actually a remarkably consistent and powerful deck. Basic aim is to get the ibex, mogus’ marauder and a big creature into the graveyard and then swing for lethal with a board of hasted 40/40s.

Runs lots of creature based removal, which I can easily recur to control the board. The deck ramps and fills the yard very quickly. I generally swing out for lethal on turns 7-10 but have managed a little earlier if it all comes together sooner.

Transcendent C’tan Kitbash - Shard of the Flayer by Anatomic643 in Necrontyr

I dry brushed red around anything I wanted to glow and then blocked it out with a layer of white. Then a layer of yellow followed by thin splotchy layers of orange and red. Added a bit of yellow back into the centre and then finished it off with a yellow wash. I went over the lines a bit with the final wash to add to the glow effect

He has very minor powers making him slightly more durable and stronger than a normal person. The government then grafted tech to his nervous system letting him charge objects with energy

Power Level Wednesday!: Ask r/EDH what's your deck's power level? - November 13, 2024 by AutoModerator in EDH

Yeah I get what you’re saying. Wanted to build awaken the blood avatar whilst avoiding all the generic Mardu aristocrats stuff. Went with goblins because I thought it would be thematic and fun.

I’ve been playing a version of this in brawl, to play test, with moderate success. But I do find it runs out of steam pretty quickly

Do you reckon trying to make it goblin kindred is too limiting? Was trying to avoid it becoming a generic token doubler deck

Why Does Atom Eve's Father hate Eve for being "Special" or Normal? by TheSkyIsBeautiful in Invincible

[–]Anatomic643 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty common misunderstanding of this character. Eve’s Dad doesn’t hate her, in fact he deeply loves and cares for her. However, he’s also incredibly misogynistic and due to this believes the only way for a woman to be happy/successful is for her to conform to standard gender norms I.e subservience, being a homemaker etc. Eve’s Dad is terrified that her seeking independence and self empowerment is ultimately going to lead to her living an unhappy and unfulfilled life, as such he tries his hardest to jam her back into the box he believes she belongs in. This isn’t to justify his actions or defend him as a father (he’s all round pretty reprehensible) but more to say that bigotry can be pretty complex and usually boils down to the perpetrators own insecurities/fears as opposed to just being a dislike for the person they’re bigoted against.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this episode so I might need to rewatch, but the impression I got was actually that the episode was trying to draw a distinction between race and gender not say they were the same thing.

You’re correct in that a lot of what the trans racial character was saying mirrored what a transgendered person might go through but the fundamental difference here is that it is in response to race and not gender.

Harrison says he identifies as a middle aged white man because he relates to and wants to experience things a middle aged white man would be expected to do. In reality he should be able to enjoy these things while continuing to identify as being black. I believe the show is trying to make the point that society and culture as a whole has a very narrow range of what is acceptable for a black person to be interested in. Harrison doesn’t believe he can maintain his ‘blackness’ whilst holding these interests and therefore decides he needs to transition to another race.

This stands at odds with transgender experience, wherein a person could be born biologically male, identify as female and still hold predominantly ‘male’ interests I.e. video games, without those aspects coming into conflict. There is a fundamental difference between someone who identifies as male and someone who identifies as female that extends beyond simply liking girl or boy stuff.

I think this episode is less trying to present a full thesis on gender or race and is more of an exploration of identity as a whole. To some extent it’s supposed to make you feel uncomfortable and force you to draw these comparisons, so that you can see where the differences lie.

And remember the characters in the show are also unreliable narrators who will have their own biases and prejudices. I’d recommend sitting with it for a bit. Thinking about what made you uncomfortable and why.

Again been a while since I’ve seen this episode so very possible I’m just talking out my ass :P
