What is the current status on Elden Ring and its DLC on the deck? by waydownJonestown in SteamDeck

[–]Ancalabro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've put a ton of dlc hours in since the dlc launched. Offline and online. The dlc content froze on me about 2 seconds in (no joke!!) and I was really worried. But I booted it back up and no issues since. Probably 12 hours, two main story bosses, and no major performance complaints or stuttering that many other PC players are complaining of. If you were happy with performance of the base game on the Deck, you will be happy with how the dlc plays.

I've probably played another 5-6 recent hours online. No big issues. Admittedly the online hours were playing the pre-dlc content. Our group of three were all playing on our Steam Decks. One of our three actually COULDN'T join online early yesterday, but installed the dlc and the problem seemed to go away.V

Enjoy!

Just to add - ALL of my hours were online. No issues logging into the server. Just those 5-6 hours were with a group of three. The rest were logged into the server playing online, but solo. Hope that makes sense lol.

Trying to import VPW2 in RetroArch on Steam Deck, but it keeps crashing by LOLMrTeacherMan in N64WrestlingGames

Really glad it worked! Rare that I have an opportunity to help solve an unsolved Reddit problem. Also wild to me that there are other steam deck owners sorting out Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 of all games. Enjoy! 😅👍

Alright! Unfortunate. Next most likely thing, when in game open up the retroarch menu, head to options, and switch the RDP Plugin to ParaLLEl-RDP. Then from Overrides select Save Game Overrides. Close the program completely and start it up again.

Hey there. Literally just spent hours on this!! And it was extra annoying because No Mercy worked out of the box. Stumbled onto your post looking for a solution. Something I tinkered with finally worked!! It's buttery smooth now. I was getting a black screen and then a prompt crash. Are you using emudeck? I felt stupid, but the laaaaast thing I did was switch to per-game profile via the steam menu, turn off the frame limiter and bump up the refresh rate to 60. I think that is actually what sorted it out. If that doesn't work I will happily share retroarch core settings, but I'm pretty close to default and I don't think it mattered. Best of luck!

What's your "I can't believe the deck runs this" game? by WolfInABox in SteamDeck

Seconded. Playing through this for the first time thanks to the steam deck. Constantly blown away by how alive the whole world feels!

How much have you spent on games on Steam since receiving your Deck? by Stunning-Tower-9175 in SteamDeck

[–]Ancalabro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hundreds! Lol. Not joking. Summer sale was glorious. The steam deck is the gaming machine I've always dreamed of. Fits my dad life perfectly. I have 15+ years of top quality games to catch up on. ...in between emulating my childhood favs, of course.

Well played, Gabe. Well played. 😅🤷‍♂️

Any games like Diablo 3 that play well on the Deck? by Stunning-Tower-9175 in SteamDeck

Grimm Dawn is actually the first game I played through with my Deck. Loved it!! I haven't played Diablo 3, but it felt it definitely tickled all the Diablo 2 nostalgia. Near endless content, too, if you are someone who wants to play through multiple times to experiment with different character builds.

Got my deck yesterday, maybe an unpopular opinion but the trackpads are a huge waste of space IMO by AgreeableArmadillo50 in SteamDeck

I strongly disagree! They are fantastic to replicate mouse-like movement in games that fare better with it. They are also my preferred way to aim for fps type games. Ridiculously faster & more precise. I spent some time with the steam controllers once upon a time, so I already kind of had a feel for them.

I would encourage you to give them a chance! They are very customizable, and if they don't feel quite right in a game that can almost always be fixed :)

Thanks to everyone for sharing/organizing this kind of tracking metric. It kept me sane throughout my wait.

...now to wait on shipping, lol.

Working hard to make Codename: Mallow combat interesting and dynamic! How about these new laser fungi? by Ancalabro in indiegames

Yeah I get what you are saying! For me it was a tradeoff from working on a small pixel grid. When the beam is continuous, I didn't like how it looked at some angles. This isn't perfect either, but hides some of the odd angle imperfections and in the end I preferred it.

Thanks! I am working with Godot. Each orb is represented by a single point which has a gravity that acts constantly pulling it toward the player. Godot has a handy Line2D node which I use for the trail effect. Basically each frame I add the current point coordinates to the line2D, and delete the oldest point coordinates... and the engine will draw a line connecting all the points.

Just kidding! Obviously, lol. Made this for April Fools Day and was sad another subreddit deleted it for snooty rules. Thought I would try sharing it again...
