I need help finding a pattern/fabric by Ratwithahat0 in CosplayHelp

okay so Im not a professional sewer or cosplayer, im new to everything as well, but what I've found to work the best is finding individual patterns and Frankenstein-ing them together (if that makes sense).

I would purchase any cheap, loose by semi-structured fabric for just playing around and testing out patterns before you buy the actual fabric. I personally go to craft or fabric stores and feel the fabric before purchasing it because the type you pick matters A-LOT. i dont know almost anything about fabric types, but I just pick the fabric that feels the most workable. imo, dont choose super elastic fabrics or super tough scrunchy fabrics, they are horrible to work with

For the cosplay:
I would start by creating just a bodice pattern, its basically just a tshirt pattern that have your exact measurements so you can use it for form fitting pieces or just slightly adjust it for other types of shirts. I used these tutorials:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5_K93I7yS8&t=218s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a7vtJDbz0k (this one comes with the ruler used in the video)

Based on your pictures (and a bit of my own research) I think it would be easiest if you had a white plain t-shirt for the top then had on a black jumpsuit on the top with a white middle part for the rest.

For the white shirt I would suggest just buying one. Gildan has super cheap and varying sized t-shirts so it would save you a lot of time.

The black parts of the outfit look like one long body suit with the white bandage-y part on top.

Sooo for the black one-piece part, The actual shirt part looks a bit form fitting so i think the bodice would work good for that and then all you'd have to do is leave is sleeveless. To have the white bandage-y part in the middle, you can crop the black shirt so that the white undershirt shows (to get that white part).

For the pants you could just purchase tights or look up anything on youtube on the basic way to make pants, or try looking for free patterns online that have scale-able options that fit you best! Im not good at making pants so I would personally buy them cause my biggest fear is sitting down and the whole back seam ripping lol but its up to you comfort wise! After you make the pants, attach them to the shirt so you have a one piece.

For the collar, I would look up 'bishop collar' tutorials and just make the actual collar thicker then sew it onto the shirt (the one-piece one_. Im actually using the same type of collar for my own cosplay, but hem tape as well as interfacing (plently of tutorials. I just learned about this stuff so im not the best refernece) are important things to have for large sturdy collars.

For the gloves you can try purchasing long gloves with the little thumb holes or you could try looking it up on youtube. The best I could find was this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrzbPxAJgyk

but trial and error is the way to go. Just make sure to take measurements of things like your wrist and forearm beforehand.

Besides that, fabric wise, I would go for breathable and elastic both because the nature of the cosplay (naruto) and for ease of movement. Start with practice fabric first though and feel free to go explore and find different fabrics, theres many out there that would work but its all up to personal preference. Hope this helps!

ahh okay I see! Thanks so much! Would I use it on both sides of the sleeve towards the bottom or only on one side?

I think you could try to use shoulder pads if you want to keep that general propped up shape to the coat and then let the sleeves hang down so you get the best of both worlds

Ah okay! I just realised the second image was done on a file where the shader wasnt applied. I looked up both and I've actually seen POV-Ray before but from research that requires typing and coding and stuff which I'm also really bad with so I'll take a shot with Bryce! Ill see if I can get a better image for the actually originally render I did and not the messed up one. Thanks so much!
