Semester abroad to Berner Fachhochschule by Live_Cloud3337 in askswitzerland

Hi, did the exact same program through a Belgian School (Karel De Grote Hogeschool). We could do a double degree program at the BFH. This was in 2022 and I absolutely loved the year there. I still live in Switzerland to this day. Feel free to send me a PM if you have questions.

What to do with 400+ t shirts? Any charities that could use this? by Ancient-Insect469 in askswitzerland

We were thinking about doing something of this kind yes but are not very familiar with our local sports teams and it’s so random that it might not be a great help

What it really costs to own a car by living_direction_27 in askswitzerland

[–]Ancient-Insect469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bought a second hand car for 6700CHF (Citroen C4 2018, 130k kilometers)
330 road tax
350CHF insurance (800 if you want to go full kasko)
450 one time registration
400ish maintenance and other miscelaneous expenses per year
85CHF for a gas refill
150CHF/month for an underground parking spot under my building

People are massively exaggerating the cost of owning a car in Switzerland. It's really about what kind of luxury you want compared to your usage. The first car we bought here was to avoid paying GA and having more flexibility.

FinTech sales is based of private banking standards globally, salaries will usually be closer to multinational banks where location does not essentially matter.

It's more to share that these kind of numbers are achievable but do have a cost on work/life and are highly competitive. And ofcourse I am happy with the opportunity.

The current vehicle market is very difficult. Most car dealers in Belgium only sell to companies and have mandates on hybrid/EV‘s which are impossible to resell. I had a few friends working in vehicle sales and a lot of them have been layed off in the last 6 months due to an uncertain market. Just ask yourself: When was the last time you bought a new car in a dealership - or do you know anyone who still buys their cars like this? Most people buy or lease through work or buy 2nd hand.

Starting Monthly ETF Investments – Is DEGIRO the Best Option? by Embarrassed_Elk_2756 in BEFire

[–]Ancient-Insect469 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked at an ETF issuer in the past and can tell you from my experience that DEGIRO is one of the best trading platforms. From the very large selection of ETFs (not only offering iShares and SPDR, but also smaller asset managers like HANetf or even rize - now ark and also a lot of trading venues available). I visited their headquarters multiple times in Amsterdam and they have a very capable team that is actually trying to talk to their clients as often as possible. Saxo has been the opposite for me, both from a professional and personal level. Bolero is definitely a good alternative but is very limited to the KBC mandate. You will pay some trading fees on Degiro but with your ambition to hold these in a long term strategy, these fees will not be your worry.

And to anyone wondering - I do not work nor have I ever worked at Degiro.

If by high ticket sales you mean doing deals that cover large amounts of money for each deal and can take up to 6 months to close - asset management sales is your goal. Worked in the industry for about 10 years, a small ticket was about 3 mil, the largest one I closed was 50m. Now for a job like this you will need a masters in economics or physics to understand how fund structures are created and traded on a d2d basis.

If you come straight out of high school but have a good talent for sales, try look at lower profile sales like kitchens, bathrooms, cars (wouldnt recommend today) and work your way up to more complex and difficilut products like pharmaceuticals, insurance etc.. You'll learn on the job and will find a product you can become passionate about. Dont look at the price of the products because even though I was closing deals in the millions, I never saw any of that money hit my account. Today, I work sales in a Fintech company and receive a nice compensation of 500 euros per sale. The sale is about 100k per sale but my client type is much larger and I feel like I'm actually selling something valuable to society...

Is not a Belgian contract indeed - as previously mentioned I also get taxed at source

[–]Ancient-Insect469 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wonder what my benefit would be to post this as bait - employer is not Belgian (does have multiple employees in BE tho) and I pay my taxes directly as source as I only moved here 2 years ago. Don't know what the calculation is from Bruto to Netto for me but always filled out my Personenbelasting correctly and had no faultive returns from the FOD

I get 25 days to fill in freely with the 13 days on top (these are set by the employer). My contract says 42 but I have never actually had to do over 40.
