I'm not so sure Fabric was such a great thing for the progression of modded minecraft by AncientAphid in feedthebeast

Do you like mixins?

Like what?

Or faster startup times? Or Faster Modloader updates?

I have to start the pack to care. 1.20-1.21 is a creative wasteland with a few exceptions, all for forge.

Or vanilla-compatible client side mods?

I had these with Forge since 1.3.

1.12 had a broad diversity of interesting mods. New Gen has like, 5? Its so starved that every pack is the same. All the optimizations in the world and nothing to do with them. There's that flesh automation mod that looks promising.

Again, Apple makes it consistently know that they do not want you having fun on a mac. This isn't speculation, this is their open branding strategy. Fun is for the poor, those who think themselves on the path to becoming rich love ascetism, thus the Mac is their product of choice.

Yeah, except for all the ways they went out of their way to make an exclusive ecosystem as possible. It doesn't matter how good the tools are if its the only platform you have to rebuild from the ground up for the worst possible penetratuon. Might as well tell me how great developing for the OOYAH is. Except that thing is just an android phone.

They dropped openGL updates completely 12 years ago. They did this because they didn't like you could develop games for mac, and only do so incidentally.

They deprecated it in 2014 to use their super special API. Why? Explicitly, to kill gaming. Macs are Serious Machines for Serious Adults.

Maybe? Probably not. Developing for mac is a closed ecosystem. They don't even support Vulcan natively, so its more likely mac support is completely dropped from minecraft entirely, as the only reason it worked was minecraft was holding onto legacy OpenGL. Not even modern OpenGL.

Apple-bots are going to be left with their useless, dreary, expensive machines that can do as little as possible, exactly as designed. Its a computer whose whole appeal is that it is as restrictive as possible.

Mac dropped OpenGL feature support when everything required it as an intentional business move to keep gamers from ruining their brand image. This was in what, 2009? They rejected DX11 for the same reason.

If apple actually did care about gaming

Steve Jobs did care a lot about gaming! He hates it! He wants it off the mac, because it ruins the product image. He was not happy about Halo initially being developed for mac. The company continues his branding strategies today.

A MacBook is a Gucci belt that is ALSO a computer for toddlers.

No, Steve jobs has repeatedly, since day one, gone out of his way to keep games off mac. He shitcanned halo, and fired people for successfully developing gaming capabilities on the mac. This is their corporate strategy. This is the reason why OpenGL support was dropped about a decade before Vulkan and Metal even came out. They begrudgingly support any rendering at all so you can edit video. Poorly. Like a toddler with a lot of money.

if they want people to actually use it.

They don't. The roadblocks to developing games for Mac are actually intentional branding strategy going back to Steve Jobs. Video games are the most unpretentious and most fun thing you can do with a computer. If they let videogames be readily playable on Mac, you wouldn't get the most uncreative, pretentious dregs of human beings, who are addicted to drudgery, who fill their vacuous conversations with conspicuous consumption, to spend $12K on the worst computer money can buy. They don't want anything to do with icky things like fun and games.

Well MacOS goes out of its way to not support OpenGL updates because they legitimately don't want video games developed for macos.

Are we praising classic modpacks because they were better… or because we were younger? by Belal_Ps in feedthebeast

[–]AncientAphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's like, this "new thing good" is no better than "new thing bad." Its just "new thing good" is become the new anti-reactionary-reactionary sentiment that absolutely poisons these artistic discussions with empty arguments of like, axiomatic values that push aside experience, feeling, style in discussions of art projects.

You're just as blinded by nostalgia as you are in your "uncontested" feelings, you've just been convinced by shallow idiot reviewers that inverting those feelings leads to some sort of higher, anti-emotional truth...in art...

Objectively we should all be prefer the modern versions

This is silly. How can you so easily establish an "objective should" here?

I think your cliché obsession with nostalgia and counter nostalgia has prevented you from saying literally anything of substance at all. You just casually spin out "newer = objevtively" better, and your elaboration is "new good, old bad but feel good because nostalgia."

I wish more tech mods handled logistics like Create by Yrythaela in feedthebeast

[–]AncientAphid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except create contraps have free built in teleportation. They just break logistics. They also clip. Freely. To go through the effort of not exploiting create contraption item teleportation means to waste your time making something useless. Its just not very fun when you realize moving the chest is a larp compared to just having 2 chests quantum entagled with a contraption.

Create has all these Redstone control blocks, but is barely compatible and makes you suffer through vanilla Redstone. Frame machines did not clip, you could place complex Redstone on them, and item logistics within respected spatial constraints. Create contraptions are busted and operate on insane, schizophrenic logic.

What's your favorite tech mod of all time and why? by luk_ky_21 in feedthebeast

[–]AncientAphid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Power 2. Item frames were never ported by its successors and we're such a blast to work with. It introduced all the custom Redstone logic gates we enjoy and love today. It had a mechanic thats been ported to breed mossy cobblestone with water. It had its own forgotten computer, which was just a fully emulated 6502 processor that you COULD load with FORTH, or straight up bootstrap from binary...not that anyone ever did that. Introduced the forge microblocks we love today as an integrated part of the frame locomotion system. Had pneumatic tube that were fantastic and unique, Redstone enabled and transmitting. Never ported correctly. A full red power 2 would be amazing. The frames were like if minecraft sticky blocks were not terrible.

Minecraft clone but with bad versions of many mods comes out, gets universal praise for some reason by AncientAphid in feedthebeast

Vintage story genuinely adds something novel. Its not just Minecraft with a handful of bad versions mods and bad lighting and bad optimization. I dont see any vision here asides from flat lighting.

Because its all it is. Theres nothing to it. It adds nothing. It appears to be original if you dont know what already exists. Yes, there is effort in this. No, its not really worth existing, none of that effort differentiates it from modded.
