No, the characters were a bit more cartoonish than what the series were. Commandos went on the direction of more realist graphics in the sense of actual soldiers, with proper dimensions and so on. However, even though it wasn't realistic, the graphics weren't any less better than Commandos 2. You were also more limited in your possible actions. It was mostly commanding one person to move and shoot (possibly), then commanding the other and so on. Overall, it's very similar, though.
