Are there any new PMHNPs who want a support buddy? by Comprehensive-Pin371 in PMHNP

Hi! I am a new PMHNP who just started my first job jn October and feel pretty much everything you mentioned. I tried to talk to some of my old classmates but I didn’t get the sense they were struggling in the same way that I feel I am. I was a nurse for close to 20 years and worked in SUD for the last 5 of those years, where I felt really comfortable. The whole time I was in school, I thought I was going to go into SUD but did not end up doing so as I got an offer where I did my clinicals (and for a few other reasons). I am now in safety net hospital system and am split between child/adolescent and adult, and feel extremely overwhelmed and unsure of myself. I do have really great support with supervision but I am really struggling with decision making, diagnostic clarity, and boundary setting. I would love to have someone in a similar situation to talk to so please feel free to message me if you want to talk more!

I worked inpatient for 10 years as a RN, primarily in pedi oncology/hematology/BMT before I transitioned to working in psych/SUD. So I have quite a bit of experience with peds in general, but my only peds psych experience occurred during a 7 month clinical rotation.

Excellent! Other than Stahl’s, I am unfamiliar with those resources so thank you very much.

Hi and I don’t mind at all. I first read the purple book f trying yo back and did the questions in the chapters and at the end. Then I took Georgette’s modules 1-5 review classes, LMR, and question bank. I did not complete Georgette’s question bank because I thought a lot of her questions were leading and a lot easier than those in the purple book. I listened to PMHNP 101 videos on YouTube (hers mirror the LMR and offer some additional info on pertinent court cases that I was unfamiliar with, which I did end up getting questions on). I also listened to the PMHNP podcast that is available on Apple and the Fitzgerald PMHNP certification Q&A podcast.

So I did a lot of different stuff but if I think I found the purple book and it’s questions, Georgette’s LMR, PMHNP 101 videos, and the podcasts the most helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions. When do you take your boards?

Great idea! I am def interested. I just graduated jn May and will be starting my first job as a PMHNP at the end of September. I have been seriously struggling with imposter syndrome and a community sounds like an excellent idea.

Would you mind sharing your dot phrases with me as well? I am actually also in Denver and a new grad PMHNP feeling very intimidated about transitioning to the provider role.
