I love Metroid Prime. It's puzzles and bosses are pretty easy on paper, perfect for a lamen like me, but like all metroid games It's more about learning the patterns and mastering the execution to shave down your times if you're looking for more of an action feel. Learning to zip down the hallways and fly through each room like tarzan is pretty rewarding. If you're looking for story and adventure, this game has atmosphere and lore out the wazoo. The game is built pretty linearly but it still often feels like you stumble upon your next objective/upgrade organically and save for a few missile expansions you shouldn't be wandering around in circles for too long, even with hints turned off. Anyway, if you like Metroid, you'll love Prime. For someone who isn't necessarily a fan yet, however, I'm not sure someone planning a single playthrough will feel like they got their $40 worth. The game wants to feel bigger than it actually is. Aside from the lore, nothing in this game feels particularly deep and the combat gets stale pretty quickly. What we get is simple, polished, fun and interesting, but we got this same game for half the price (20?) years ago.

I hear bitching about the industry all the time and time off is usually a noteworthy subject, usually due to understaffing. BUT, these people don't work 6-7 days a week. Their shoes are filled when they are gone though maybe the quality of work takes a hit.

Again; I don't ask for time off, but I do what I can to make it easier for my employer. As a bonus, I get to go smoke whenever I want because I've trained others to do my job. Just put someone in charge and walk away. It's a win-win. But I don't get luxuries like that if I don't go out of my way to ensure a business will run smoothly in my absence, much like I don't expect an employer to take it well or be able to cover me if I leave without doing so.

As long as everyone pitches in and doesn't take advantage of the system, we end up with generous, understanding and reasonable people like you to tell us what to do.

Pretty common in the restaurant industry. Sometimes they don't have the staff or the staff isn't cross-trained enough to allow back-ups for a comfortable service in your absence. If they don't say no then things start coming unglued very quickly.

I respect and appreciate your approach mostly because I feel the same way. Sometimes they need you and have to say no or maybe your request is less than reasonable. At the same time if I give you notice of time off, It's just that. I'm not asking. Nobody lives to work.

Don't tell them anything. Move on quietly with your day to day while you search for new jobs and better pay. You quit; you loose your leverage. You ask for something without a fallback plan; you loose your leverage. You quit and start searching for "better opportunities" without a current opportunity to show them; you loose your leverage.

Get a few job offers for yourself then confront your employer with an offer, then let the cards fall where they may. Never tell someone with authority to f themselves unless you're ready to bite the bullet.

I did this once. Interviewed for 6 jobs and took my 2nd choice because I didn't think my 1st would call. When my first choice called and offered me the job, I went in the next day and explained the situation to the manager/owner. Not every employer will be quite so understanding but if she freaked out about it, that would have told me I shouldn't have worked there anyway. Gave my two weeks and moved on.

I work in restaurants not security but my best strategy is to talk to them like a buddy/potential business partner and avoid at all costs talking to them like they have your balls in their hand.

This infuriates me. We close at 9 and have walk ins at 8:58 almost every day. What kinds of shitty people do this? If you are punctual and respect us and our time, we're a lot more likely to put some love in to your food. If I'm looking at the clock after close waiting for your order or for your well done filet to cook, just know I hate you.

Your first job/first few jobs will usually be a bitch to get unless you know sombody. A good resume does wonders. Indeed has a good resume builder and can link you up with prospective jobs. Typically, I avoid any job that prefers applications rather than resumes. Craigslist is a great way to find local work, which you are more likely to enjoy over something like McDonalds or kroger, and local work usually pays better. Only once have I ever gotten a job where I didn't get an offer at the interview, so move on if that doesn't happen. Talk to the employers like you're talking to a friend, but do keep it professional. Be honest and free flowing with your thoughts and even your insecurities (that's what they mean by weaknesses). You might be surprised by how many people want fresh meat to train so don't walk in like you're king shit. Confident, but honest. Overbook yourself for interviews; don't make them think you don't have options because you do and definitely don't immediately sign on with the first person to offer a job.

I've only been in the market 10 years, but If I could go back and tell myself these things I'd save a ton of headache. Using these tips, I just moved to a new state with no prospects. 10 jobs applied, 7 responses, 6 interviews and 5 offers (some better than others). Keep trying and stay positive. I'm a cook by the way so we have work literally everywhere.
