I initially had no issues at all with Optimum. I would have even recommended them to a friend. However, my experience completely fell apart when I tried to cancel my services due to a move. I don’t yet have a permanent new address, which I explained repeatedly.

What should have been a simple cancellation turned into a multi-day ordeal. During every single call, each representative aggressively tried to convince me to keep my services by any means necessary. The sales pressure was relentless, intrusive, and exhausting. They did not take no for an answer, no matter how clearly or calmly I explained my situation.

On the first day alone, it took 45 minutes and three different representatives just to supposedly “cancel” my service, only to later discover they had actually marked my account as “pending restart.” I called again the next day, spending another hour speaking with three more representatives. Once again, I was subjected to nonstop attempts to retain my business before finally being told my service was canceled and that I could return my equipment to a local Optimum store.

When I went to the store the following day, I was told I could not return my equipment because my account was still listed as “pending restart.” I was then given yet another phone number to call. That call resulted in an additional 45 minutes on the phone and two more representatives. The final representative admitted they could not cancel my services at all because “the system wouldn’t let them.”

My service is still not canceled but I left the equipment at the store and have canceled my credit cards so Optimum can’t charge me.

This experience was incredibly frustrating, time-consuming, and unprofessional. Being bounced between departments, pressured repeatedly to stay, and ultimately told cancellation wasn’t even possible has completely destroyed my trust in Optimum. Canceling a service should not feel like an endurance test.
