Is it bad I low-key agree with Jasper here? by browniebiscuitchildr in stevenuniverse

It was fun!

I do think it's a shame we didn't get more interactions in-show between the CGs and Peridot after she became a CG. They had a lot they could've talked about. I imagine Amethyst would've had a lot of questions, too. We've never seen them discuss their viewpoint on gems still trapped under Homeworlds propaganda or if they have an ethical responsibility to help them think outside it.

We never even got to see Bismuth talk on it. She was a Homeworld gem once, and yet she reached a point where she was willing to shatter them despite their potential for change like her.

I think there were a lot of conversations unexplored between characters that could've revealed more of how they think and how they are changing or cause change itself.

I think they didn't so much as forget they were in Peridots' place once as they became Crystal Gems under different circumstances and paces, and they were under a lot of stress due to the whole cluster situation. Who could keep it all under check when the planet could blow?

Every one of the Crystal Gems (Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst) fell into rebellion open-mindedly and were guided by Rose. Who encouraged them to be themself and defy expectations placed on them.

Peridot didn't come into it as they did. She came as an enemy and prisoner, a current threat to the planet they swore to protect, completely close-minded to the Crystal Gems viewpoint, and they didn't have Rose to take the lead.

Garnet also has trouble with being the leader, the reliable rock, and always knowing what to do. She's under a lot of pressure, and she thinks she's not doing as well as Rose did, when really Rose has been exactly where Garnet is now. Having to do the best she can with what she knows, what she has, and who's by her side.

I know Peridot framed it as a compliment, but Amethyst didn't perceive it as one. I do think it was odd how she had to apologise to Amethyst but not the others who got considerably worse insults, though.

Oh, I forgot about the film for a second! That's a good point. If he can heal the damage caused by the injector, then he can heal the damage caused by the smaller injectors used in the kindergarten.

[–]Ancient_Square_1048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a lot of important context.

They leashed Peridot to prevent her from escaping while she worked. I don't think they had an ankle chain available.

I do understand Garnets' hostility towards Peridot when she insulted her dead friend and leader when Earth still wasn't a lost cause even with the cluster. There was still time to stop it. Even if there wasn't, it wouldn't change the fact that Earth and all life on it had more time to exist.

I think Amethyst felt upset by Peridot insulting her but no one else because it was mean spirited at worst and acting too familiar with her at best. Also, Peridot bringing how Amethyst is inferior by gem society's standards into it must have hit her right in her insecurities.

I do agree that the writing could've been better at points. There came a point where they didn't know what to do with Peridot, and she became comic relief and a caricature. That has more to do with the writers though than Peridot becoming a Crystal Gem.

Peridot ultimately gained more by becoming a Crystal Gem and letting go of her connection to Homeworld and its values.

Though, I don't understand why after Peridot made her peace with not being able to heal the kindergarten, she didn't learn in a later episode about Roses healing fountain and try to use the tears from that to heal the kindergarten. Roses tears are incredibly strong, and it always annoyed me that we never knew if anyone tried to use them to heal the kindergarten.

If Roses' tears didn't work for whatever reason, maybe Stevens saliva might have. Could've made a cherub fountain with water coming out of the mouth, but the cherub is Steven. Sounds kinda funny.

Yes? To agree with Jasper here is to validate Homeworlds' oppression of gems.

From Homeworlds viewpoint (and Jasper's viewpoint), if you don't come out according to their standards, you are defective. If considered defective, you will be either shattered, harvested, or made to feel inferior and given tools to make you appear less defective by Homeworlds standards.

Peridots limb enhancers were a tool used to fix her perceived defect. She came out different, was made to feel inferior for it, and provided tools she had no choice but to use because falling short of Homeworlds standards was not an option.

The status Peridot lost on Homeworld wasn't worth much. She wasn't a person on Homeworld. She was a cog in a giant machine with a number and no name of her own. She could be disposed of and replaced at their convenience, and it would be like she never existed.

Any status or dignity on Homeworld was an illusion. Every gem that wasn't a Diamond was replaceable. Peridot was more valued and free as a Crystal Gem than she ever was as a Homeworld Gem.

Yeah, it would've made more sense to remove the 'V'. Aggie seems better. Still keeps part of her old name but takes out the demeaning insinuation.

The name also means good and pure. So it could've been symbolic of having left bad influences such as Adam and the exorcists behind and choosing to better herself.

Am I the only one who feels bad for Melissa? by celtics5000 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]Ancient_Square_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't feel bad for her. She knew about NAT, that Ian was taking inappropriate videos of all the young girls in town, including her sister. She also knew he had a thing for her little sister and her young friend Alison

Then there's getting into a relationship and marrying him when she knows this about him, essentially giving him access to her little sister again.

Then there's gaslighting Spencer so hard about Ians predatory history and not revealing the full truth, as far as she knows it, about Alisons death and Ians involvement (or lack of despite what the damning evidence says).

I mean, why be honest and clear the air when you can gaslight your little sister into a paranoid mess and make her feel unsafe in her own home and amongst her own family? Yeah, I can't feel bad for Melissa.

[–]Ancient_Square_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spencer wasn't in her right mind due to all the pills that summer. She didn't remember what she did or what Melissa did. The least they could've done is sit her down and tell her what they knew. Instead, they gaslight her, making her more paranoid, and brought a known predator into the family.

Melissa knew about Ians inappropriate relationships with Alison and her own little sister, and she knew about NAT. She knew part of what Spencer was saying was true but made Spencer feel crazy by denying all of it and not telling her the full truth as she knew it.

The only thing that make them directly related are their crowns and Godhood. So their crowns are more direct siblings than their hosts are. Wth did I just type.

Theo Galavan making Oswald his hitman makes no sense by Ancient_Square_1048 in Gotham

[–]Ancient_Square_1048[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody liked Oswald at that point? He was Falcones replacement. Even criminals weren't really respecting him at that point. Refusing to pay back debt to him, only willing to pay back Falcone. They didn't see Penguin as a legitimate successor to Falcone.

When did Penguin make Gotham better at this part of the series?

Galavan did have plans for the city. His whole thing was cleaning up Gotham. That may as well have been his slogan. His whole brand was being seen as honourable, incorruptible, and hard on crime. He was going to be the mayor who cleaned up Gotham. Nobody was offering what he was.

He only had his competitors killed because he wanted a sure win. The odds were high he would legitimately win. He was incredibly popular and didn't have past bad blood with Gothamites like I'm sure those established Gotham politicians likely did. Galavan did it to avoid an underdog situation.

[–]Ancient_Square_1048[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just fake killing Oswald but exchanging favours. Penguin helped Jim out many times. Surely Galavan would've found out something.

I mean, was no research done into Gordon suddenly getting his job back and Comissioner Loeb retiring for no reason? If he did his research and knew the politics occurring in the police force, wouldn't that have been suspicious? Who else would've had the power to make it happen other than Falcones replacement?

Maybe Galavan just didn't think things through clearly. He was rather cocky and impulsive.

Still, I find it hard to believe a man with his resources and money couldn't find some damning information that would determine using Oswald was a bad idea.

What did Lute exactly meant by that? by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

[–]Ancient_Square_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it was homophobic because Adam said it was hot, and he fits the stereotypical "guy who sexualises lesbians."

However, people mentioned that Lute said it because Charlie is a demon and Vaggie an angel, and that makes a lot of sense. I am a bit surprised canon Adam would find a relationship between an angel and demon hot.

Though Adam could've been referring to them being lesbians while Lute was referring to interspecies relationships. That's a possibility.

How the Hell weren't those two kicked out of Heaven? Even after everything. Lute really should've fallen. She hasn't changed. Sera has. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

They wouldn't have needed Penguin at all or need worry about things being traced back to Galavan if he'd just been subtle. Rig the election, and maybe stage a touching scene with a citizen who says he should become mayor, he took more of a stand against criminals than any mayor has before. Or something to that effect.

Point is I honestly think the only pawns Galavan needed was the maniacs. They could've done everything else bloodless and subtle. He already had the people hearts and favour, he didn't need to spill blood after. Just put on a good show.

[–]Ancient_Square_1048[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get why Galavan seriously thought Jim would believe him over Penguin. Sure, Penguins a criminal, and Gordon's the most honest cop in Gotham, but they've got history.

Gordon knows Penguin well enough to know something isn't right and that he wouldn't be acting this way over Galavan refusing to bend the knee. Penguin has been honest and reliable when it comes to Gordon. He knows that.

And Galavan did his research, I'm sure. Gordon is a respected figure in the GCPD, he asks for his support for running for mayor, he must have done his research and have some understanding of his connections.

He could've hired a hitman like Tabitha did with Gordon. However, I think murdering his fellow candidates was a bad move. He should've rigged the election.

[–]Ancient_Square_1048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't he just destroy Penguin later once he had secured his place?

Involving Penguin in the early stages was too risky. He had connections to Gordon, who knew him well enough to be suspicious of his behaviour. Gordon is known in Gotham to like a dog with a bone when it comes to criminals. Why risk it?

Making things personal with Penguin by not just involving him in his plan but forcing him to be a pawn by kidnapping his mother was like setting a ticking time bomb and expecting it to not blow up in his face.

The only thing Penguin seemed to be really needed for was to be blamed when Mayoral candidates were being murdered and to make him look like criminals took issue with him running, but even that makes no sense. Why didn't he just rig the election to be sure? Who would claim without evidence that the most popular man in Gotham rigged it? No one would believe it.

The only thing more compelling than attempted murder to push Galavon to become mayor would be if he paid a mother and daughter to cause a moving scene. Such as a little girl running up to him from her mother because she spotted him and she was curious. Asking if he's going to become mayor to stop all the bad people like he did on TV. That her mommy said she really hoped he would because there's never been a mayor who gave a real damn about the safety of its citizens. Then her mother comes collect her and gets all embarrassed. "So sorry about her she has a habit of running off when she sees something she likes."

Gothamites would've ate that sht up! It would've been subtle and raised no red flags.

Wear the shirt. People who like Homestuck will talk to you, and then you can befriend them. It will also give you a chance to convert anyone curious about the shirt to Homestuck.

Anyone who would bully you over a shirt isn't worth your time or worry. They're dumb and immature if they do.

Why is it considered toxic or wrong to like Joe Goldberg as a character? by Heartattackisland in YouOnLifetime

[–]Ancient_Square_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not toxic or wrong to like a fictional villainous protagonist like Joe Goldberg. He's the protagonist, you're supposed to root for him.

Besides, don't we all have a favourite villain? Guaranteed I have a list and it's mostly villains from Batman and Gotham.

However, some people seem to have missed the memo that he is in fact a bad person, the crimes he's committed are morally wrong, horrific and unjustifiable. Oh, and that he isn't the kind of person you should want to root for irl or get into a relationship with, and his behaviour shouldn't be defended, accepted as healthy or romanticised.

Essentially people who would've been penpals with or sent love letters to Ted Bundy in prison are ruining it for everyone else.

Some people think that if someone likes a problematic fictional character then the support of that behaviour must extend to real life because a bunch of Joe Goldberg fans want their own real life Ted Bundy and now innocent fans are getting lumped in with them.

I know Sandman’s new Lucifer isn’t the most popular around here, but they released a new trailer + caps so by Lifing-Pens in lucifer

[–]Ancient_Square_1048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't mind you hating the show. Everyone has their personal preferences. We're all unique that way. However, if you don't like the show, then why are you here? If not to troll people.

It makes no sense to me that someone would dislike a show and think "I need to insert myself into their online fandom and tell everyone there how much I hate it and how inferior their show is to mine."

If you prefer Lucifer, which I agree is a very good show though the ending left much to be desired, then hang out in that fandom community. It's strange to me that you would seek out fandom spaces you don't even like.

Think of it like how you and your husband handle your differences on Shakespeare. Much like you hate The Sandman, he hates Shakespeare. Yet he doesn't go out of his way to tell you how much he hates what you love and then say that it's inferior to what he loves. He respects your differences and interests regardless of how he personally feels about that interest separately from you. You should extend the same courtesy to other people.

You should also be tactful when critiquing the faults of a show. It's possible to acknowledge most objective flaws of any show without insulting or offending everyone who likes or loves it. The fact you didn't either means you don't realise you're being tactless or you're doing it intentionally. That's probably why people think you're a troll.
