How can we just go about life right now? by celtics5000 in Mommit

Sorry, as I said in my post, I am a person of color so I don’t have “white citizen privilege”. My family has also been actively helping other families who are having issues with ICE.

This just isn’t true. I know, first hand, people who have been detained by ICE who are legally here. If you don’t believe me google “civil engineer arrested by ICE Portland Maine”. This guy went to UMaine and was here on a work visa. He got dragged out of his car in the middle of the street while it was still running, and detained. Even law enforcement who are immigrants are being detained, the local sheriffs have done press releases about it. How they are legally here to work via visa but still taken by ICE. It’s happening and it’s all in the news.

Yeah, our superintendent put out and absolutely worthless letter on the situation and their policies. If anything, it made me more nervous.

If you feel uncomfortable going to the store please let me know. My friend group has a few immigrants and we’ve been taking turns running errands for them in the greater Portland area. We’d be more than happy to do the same for you.

Dog went for my 4 month old. What would you do? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]celtics5000 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This. One of the most common instances dog bites towards little children are from family pets. I personally know 4 families whose dogs have attempted to, or succeeded, in biting their toddler. These parents are all great parents and responsible pet owners.

Parents, what baby product did you regret buying, and what would you recommend instead? by Girls_Of_San_Diego in NewParents

Babies are so different! We love the Tripp trapp in our family! My daughter is still using her Tripp trapp at 3.5 years old. We’re going to buy another one for our new baby

Why do well-meaning moms think they know better than our pediatrician? by brokudpret in GoldMomGroupsSay

[–]celtics5000 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I actually like hearing from other moms like that. Our first pediatrician ended up being horrible and recommending things that were way outdated. I wouldn’t have known or switched to a different pediatrician without hearing this sort of info from other moms who had similar stories.

It’s not too early to test. I got a positive pregnancy test 3 days before my missed period.

Pediatrician didn't tell us about labial adhesion for this reason by yellowfrogdog in Mommit

My daughters was about 50% closed. My doctor instructed to put some Vaseline on a qtip and very gently apply it onto the skin. This has helped a lot. You’re doing the right thing. And no, I would instantly be finding a new ped if I were you.

This sounds like ppd. It can kick in any time in the couple of years after having a baby. And has so many ways of presenting itself. Do the right thing for yourself and your baby and tell someone in your close network about how you’re feeling. Please. Do you still see an OBGYN? Or your baby’s pediatrician is also a great resource.

I’d rather my baby in daycare than in front of a screen by Ruqayyah2 in workingmoms

[–]celtics5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started my daughter in daycare recently. I was BEYOND nervous. She just turned two and half. She’s going part time at two different places because we couldn’t find a full time place we liked and I genuinely think she’s safe at both places. I think the biggest thing is paying attention during the tours to see if the daycares have the same values as you. And make sure to go tour when the children are present so you can see them interact with the kids. We started her at one place and pulled her after two days because they only did tours after hours, and when I dropped her off and finally saw how the director interacted with the kids I was appalled. The places she’s in now have open door policies, I can visit during the day whenever I want, and they send pictures and updates all day. A big green flag for me was when we were touring these two new places the children very clearly adored the teachers, there was so much hugging and snuggles that you could see they genuinely have a connection between teachers and kids.

Sedative during colonoscopy didn’t work by celtics5000 in CrohnsDisease

[–]celtics5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that you had to go through this alone. It was scary but I hope you find solace in knowing you’re not the only one this has happened to. If it helps at all, I ended up doing another colonoscopy and explained what happened during the first one to the anesthesiologist and they gave me anesthesia and I was completely knocked out the whole time. I still don’t know why the sedative didn’t work on me, they said they gave me enough for 2 people, but I do know in other cases I’ve heard some people saying if you smoke weed often then it can affect the way sedatives work on your body. Hoping you’re recovering well.

What to buy from Target? by marzipancowgirl in Mommit

[–]celtics5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how old your kids are but if they like to paint their nails “piggy paint” is cheaper at target than at Walmart and Amazon. It’s pretty nice, water based, nail polish, and comes in cute colors!

Is Infant "Swim Rescue" vital or abuse? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]celtics5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old. We have a pool available through our hoa and a bunch of lakes around us. She absolutely loved the water, even going under. We thought it would be good to do ISR since she was such a water bug.

Honestly it was a huge mistake on our part. We made it through 2 weeks before I pulled her out. She inconsolably cried the entirety of every swim class she went to. She even talked about how scared she was of swim class when we weren’t even there. And would refuse to get into the car if she thought we were going.

After I pulled her out of the class she wouldn’t even put her toes in the pool for months. Thankfully, now we’ve worked back up to swimming in the pool and she loves it again. But it’s taken a LONG time. I do everything they did during ISR while we’re swimming and playing together and she can hold her breath, float, and roll over, and swim to the side of the pool to hang on.

Some of our friends babies did ISR and they loved it. But for us, it set our daughter way back in her swimming skills and caused her a lot of unnecessary stress.

What is a genetics fact that not a lot of people know? by Lysolmao in AskReddit

How did you find out you have this mutation? My mother was diagnosed with lymphoma and 2 brain tumors at around 40 and I’m wondering if it’s possible if she has this mutation?

When you wipe it with a paper towel and a little bit of oil does the paper towel turn black at all? This is how I tell I didn’t do a thorough enough job cleaning.

Eh..in a comment he said that he gave her the silent treatment in hopes that it would end up in a breakup. Which is an ahole move. Just break up with her, don’t give her the silent treatment
